Oh my gosh, I found a wonderful plant lady in my zone! I turned 40 this yr, been struggling a lot with disabling pain, and have just gotten into flower gardening as a new hobby.
I’m in zone 9b Deep South Texas and I’ve had my mums in ground for years now. They even survived the crazy freeze we had some time back. My dogs have also chewed on them and they still come back. Whenever a stem brakes off then I just stick it in a pot and most of the time it will take. For me I like fertilizing with coffee water, add worm castings and they love it. Color isn’t an issue with me as I’m looking to add more plants to my landscape. 😊 Thank you for sharing your tips. Wish I had known these when I bought my first mums. Awesome information for anyone new to buying mums.
I have Peppermint near my mums as well as roses. Aphids hate the smell of peppermint. No aphid problem this past summer. Zone 6b, I overwintered my mums in the garage last year and they're blooming now.
I love mums and think they are underrated. Like you mentioned, they provide multiple bloom sessions each year. I like the smell of them also. Kind is a distinct smell. Thanks for the tips! I have pink and purple ones.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I also live near you in zone 9A in Texas in Houston, Texas. I work for a company that sells these moms, and I’ve gained so much insight and knowledge from you to relate to my customers.😊
How wonderful must be to be able to enjoy your garden all year long, we have 6 months of winter and very tricky to learn how each plant survives or not in winter. Also I feel like I got to chose flowers that bloom as long as possible if I want to maximize those short months of good weather.
All year gardens aren't all glory.....the trade off is dangerous heat. I'm in sw florida....your winter down time is summer for me....most of the plants take a stress hibernation when it gets too hot so from June through mid september all i do is weeding and watering. Season starts in September, so when most people are putting their gardens to bed and doing final harvesting, we are waking our gardens up🤷🏾♀️ you get 6 months of winter but I get 9.5 months of summer😭
I had mums to overwinter as volunteers. Right now they are pretty good size. When more mums come out in the stores, I plan to look for some pink ones. Thanks for the great info.
Your daffodils look soo happy. And yes!! I had no clue that mum's can be a perennial. I'm in zone 8 also . Looks I'll be shopping for some soon !! Thank you for sharing this.😊
Thank you , lovely mums and great weather in Texas . Autumn has arrived in Vienna Austria , zone 7b. I'm going to plant my dusty pink mums in the landscape later. You inspired me.😍😊
I love flowers and gardening but am unable to get out and do it anymore. My husband just gave me a lavender mum for our Anniversary last week. It’s my favorite color. It was in full bloom and beautiful. Still looks great and I keep it near a window and have dead head the flowers. I am hoping to put it in another pot and keep it inside so I can take care of it. If it gets put outside I won’t be able to get to it or enjoy it. Where I have it it gets late day sun but not too much. My husband is not much of a gardener so he doesn’t know that when you buy flowers like this not to get them all in full bloom. All he was thinking about was that they were pretty and would not die like a vase of flowers. Bless his heart did not want to tell him that he should not have bought it in full bloom 😂
Great tip Amanda on Mums -- I was thinking Mums in the spring????😀 I would love to follow your advice on Mums because I would love to have them in my zone 6b garden. I always just get rid of them -- but this year I think I will save a few and see how they do. Thanks again for great information.
I am sone 6a and got a dozen mums that said perennial a few days ago July 28th. I put them in ground before July 31st. Do you think they’ll come back next year??? I am in zone 6a Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
@@sarikadatta3706 I have never been good at getting Mums to come back in my area. Actually, one of my least favorite plants. Others have had success with them coming back I just have not. Hope it works out for you
I had no idea they bloomed multiple times! Mine are coming in good & colorful! I will let them bloom before chopping/punching next year but since I pinched they are fuller!
Hi there, just found u and subscribe 🤗, just bought a couple mums today , I can't wait until the autumn colours coming in , rust etc . Autumn is my favourite season 🍂🍁, thank you for amazing tips 🤗🤗
+Foodies World mums don’t last super long for each bloom cycle … only 3-4 weeks … so if you bought your already blooming they may be reaching the end of their cycle.
Now I know what happened to my purple mum's, I bought them already with beautiful blooms, they were done within 2 weeks, the yellow mum's blooms were closed and there still blooming weeks later, and I do pinch them every other day, thanks again for your videos✌️🌼🌻
This was so helpful all The way through! I have a mum that lasted through the winter in a pot but it's remain green all spring and summer. What should I do to make it bloom for the fall? I have not repotted it or fertilize it. Is it too late to get it to bloom?
Thank you for the video! I’m quite new to mums. I purchased around ten pots of mums last fall, they are still in the pots. Now we are in January, zone 7b. With a lot of rain some of the pots start growing again, blooming , but not all of them. Should I give up on the rest.?? I didn’t repot or fertilize.
+Sonishca Peater you have time to wait it out and see what happens come spring so don’t be in a hurry to throw them out. Try fertilizing in March and see what happens!
I maybe three years too late to ask this question, but I wonder if its possible for mums planted outdoors in pots here in zone 8a Dallas, Texas to come back?
Hey! Thank God I found you.I am really worried abt my mums.I live in Canada.I bought mums around March vth full bloom. I enjoyed them till end of April and pruned them.Till now plant is growing but there are no flowers yet. I just want to ask, Will they bloom in this fall months or next year the time I bought. Pls clarify.Thank you
I got mums on clearance.. we're getting 60s during day.. 20s frost at night here in Colorado.. how can I keep em going till they root to come back next year?? I have lots of pots to cover.. and frost cloth?
Get them planted in the ground and keep them well watered … your focus needs to be on the roots and not the plant above the ground. Frost cloth should help too! Good luck!
I have a giant mum shrub it was not supposed to be a giant I had no idea it was going to and I really like it and all my neighbors comment on it it’s kind of funny I caught my prize 🥇 special mommy‘s Queen 👸🏽 mum. Ha ha so what I want to know is it’s not blooming yet is there any special fertilizer I can put on there should I just use regular powdered like green fertilizer type of thing?? I’m in Minneapolis Minnesota and it’s in the ground.
you didn't talk much about watering.... I live in perhaps a similar climate as you (dry hot summer, cool on-and-off rainy winter)... after they're in the ground, will my chrysanths suffer if it rains a lot? the roots could rot maybe... though I do have well-draining soil (sand/compost/terrarosa). thank you for all your help!

@@shesamadgardener Thanks so much for the quick reply. Should I also do any pinching or trimming back or is it too late for that?
I've bought the big fully bloomed mum, of course they died. You have giving me hope to try again.

Yes they will bloom again … they are triggered to bloom by the length of the day … as the days get shorter, they will begin to bloom again.

How do I propagate? Can you show exactly where to cut the stems for propagation ?
+Foodies World I’ll have to do a video and show y’all.
How would they do in AZ? When would you recommend planting?
What zone are you? I recommend planting in the fall because they are more widely available at that time.
What kind of ferlizer do you use? Thanks for info.

can you tell me the name of the red mum you showing i never seen one in gardening books or in real life thank you.

Amanda, are all mums perrineal?
+craftjunkie 1960 most are but a few florist varieties are not. The key is to check your zone as mums are typically hardy on zones 5-9.

Why you have keep the pumpkins along with your Mum's🤔???
