I appreciate your videos. As a retiree obsessed with gardening, I spend a lot of time watching related videos. Yours are a delight to watch, and always very helpful. Thank you.
I’m so excited to come across this…. My five year old collected butternut squashes and we planted them and lo and behold I now have heaps of them… so I’m going to give growing them a bash
Excellent video! You’ve inspired me to grow my squash seeds I just got out of a squash that was gifted to me. Wish me luck! 🙏♥️ All the best from Los Angeles, -Aurora
I love all of your vids I have a whole garden that I've grown from waste food that I have lying around my house I was inspired by your videos to start gardening in containers And I love how your videos are not very long and are always straight to the point Stay home and stay safe! Greetings from Indonesia 🇮🇩👋
I know I did some yellow squash a few years back - a neighbor had tried growing squash, but plans for them changed and they moved out. My aunt got the place. By that time, there were some squash gourds that I'd just nudge around, especially as it was winter by that point. Spring and Summer come, and I decided to amend the garden bed. Saw the gourds, and I was like "I wonder what will happen?" and I broke them open, scattered the seeds around the bed, and put the dirt/potting soil/compost into the bed. Then I put in a few tomato and pepper plants, and a few flowers (all of which I'd gotten for free). Well, got a lot of squash - ate it at least once if not twice a week for a couple of months.
❤️ ur vids.I live in a really cold climate I start my squash 10-12 weeks before planting and I got an okay harvest for a first year 27lbs especially with the aphid infection I had so I can be done I believe my pots are 10” high by 5” wide I’d say we have maybe 100 days of growing. Your videos inspired me to go vertically it’s pretty amazing my tallest squash plant was between 17-20’ tall I came a-crossed another video she caps hers I may try that this year. Thanks for inspiring people to do what they’ve been told they can’t and happy gardening.TY.😊
I live in a northern climate in Canada and am having a heck of a time with my pumpkins...also the powdery mildew. I'm going to check out your suggested videos on fertilizers and vertical gardening, thanks so much!
I found lots of vids on that one was using 1 cup milk to a gallon of water I used soapy mint spray last year my I believe culprit was some near by trees once I cut them down it was dramatically reduced saw that my mothers house same trees were giving her near by plants mildew as well.
I always enjoy watching your videos. You're always smiling and I can see you really love what you do. I hope you're doing well with everything that happened in your past. Keep your videos coming. God bless and good health to you!
We had just used a butternut for a vegan mac and cheese when this was posted, and we’d kept the seeds since my flatmate likes them toasted. So I asked for some and planted them, and now the first not so little sprout is breaking the surface! Thanks for the encouragement :)
And now they´re already over half a metre tall with plate sized leaves... I hope I'll be able to get some harvest off them before the end of our short season, but they do look well
@@ijeomaakubue7297 Yes, they were store bought. The harvest was not plentiful at all, but we had an unusually cold summer here last year (rarely above 60 F/15 C), and very rainy. It turned out, however, that oven roasted unripe butternut squash is delicious, so I am trying it again this year and hoping for a better summer and better results with an earlier start. We have a very short season with last frost in early june and first frost mid-september, so I might still only get unripe squash, but I wanted to give it another go. Nice greenery for the balcony if nothing else.
I planted seeds directly into a ground planter. I forgot about them and they grew. Due to forgetting about them they were too big to plant out. So I took your method and grew them upwards. Thankyou
Have you tried roasting it? Brush with butter or olive oil and put in your oven at 350f or 180 C until tender (about an hour). The flavor is more robust and it gives you the chance to roast your onions, garlic, or other vegetables for the soup too. I recommend a vegetable broth of 2 onions, 2 garlic cloves, a celery stalk, and herbs de province in 2 quarts of water brought to a boil.
Love your videos, you seem to know what the questions will be and give all the best information upfront. Love your accent 😊 with greetings from Cape Town. PS: planted some seeds today (thanks for the inspiration!)
Hey,Project Diaries! You are like a diamond to have around, and you could teach the world to sing in perfect harmony with your voice and smile! Yes, its very hard to separate the seeds, but that's how it is when you are striving for the best things in life(growing your own). Thank you for doing videos. I listen to various ones, I love how you try to save the planet, not wasting things. Our children are our futures we need to save the planet. I'm subbed with your channel because I'm like a new gardener. H-E-L-P! thank you.
I love this channel, it literally has everything I need to know about planting whatever vegetable I'm thinking about planting and growing. And you're adorable!!
I’d love to see a video on how you build the trellis for the squash. I’m hoping to grow my squash vertically this year so would be grateful for any and all tips! Love your videos. Marie
Thanks for another great video! Looking forward to learning more about vertical growing. I rent a small apartment and don’t have much access to land - a small patio area (east to southeast exposure). There’s a community garden in my area, but it’s not accessible for people who use a mobility device (wheelchair, rollator, walker, etc.)
Really looking forward to your pumping video looking forward to starting some providing I move this yr. Love your videos thanks for sharing your experience with us you kind soul
Going to try a couple of vertical squashes this year, never tried it that way. They take up so much space on the ground though so thought it worth a try. Looking forward to your video!
Hi! 🙋🏻♀️ Thanks to your informative video I now have 6 little butternut squash plants which are growing fast! They took 3 weeks to germinate, probably due to the cold spring we've had. Looking forward to planting them out! 👍Would be interesting to hear about how and when you got into gardening. P/s Kitchen roll is definitely the correct name for it! 😆
Just what I needed, I've just planted butternut squash. Some of my young plants leaves turned yellow though and dried out and I watered them regularly?
If you are using a potsoil or combination of building sand and potmoss, then probably overwatering or underwatering. Water turns yellow for either... Or too much sun.. and do not fertilize it wait for it to be a little grown up
How did you go with the 4 plants in the single square foot? Did you have any issues with mildew or small fruit? :) I'm currently planning my spring/summer garden and binging your channel.
Awesome video as usual, spent the last two weeks watching all your videos. Dug up 2 4x15 gardens and planted them out using the Square Foot method you taught!
My seedlings did the same. I would suggest being very delicate with the root system, and using fresh, nutritious soil. If the seedlings were grown in the same container, don't separate them because it will destroy the root system and seedlings.
Will this work for an 898 or a honeynut squash. If you don't know what those are you should do a little research. They're pretty amazing. Basically smaller, more condensed versions of butternut squashes. 898 is more advanced/better that honeynut fyi.
I live in Texas and we're having what seems like second Autumn as well; warm days but nights are very cool. Damn solar minimum is messing everything up.
When is a plant to big to transfer outside? I have some growing in my greenhouse. I forgot I had planted seeds under my workbench and they seem to come up overnight. They are massive and possibly overcrowded
Hello thanks for the facts but my seeds I planted them and they grow but some of them is yellow and the little leaves is like broken like something ate it can you please help because I also saw on of your was like that.
I’m a simple man, I see project diaries i click like!

What was that, seagulls in the background when you planted them outside?
Love your videos! So helpful, do you have one on how you made that trellis for the squash?
That's what we know it as kitchen roll! 😂
Love your video. Another vegetable to grow that I haven’t tried as yet. Is it still early enough to grow from seed in next few days?
If you have some really warm weather then I'm sure it's not too late. UK has freezing right now so everything is growing sooooo slowly!
Mine have just germinated and were left on a warm (south facing) kitchen windowsill. Good luck!
Eleanor Warner thanks Eleanor definitely give it ago 🤗

Poly roll!!!!
Can you germinate the seed in paper towel, ziplock bag method?
Would they sprout faster if I soak the seeds overnight?
Gardening noob question here. Is there any reason for using 100% compost instead of a mix of soil and compost?

It's probably Rain Water, from a Water Butt (Water Collection Container.) Maybe off the Roof of his Planting Shed... 😏
May I know if the water you use for the plants have anything in it or is it just plain faucet water?
