  • Breathtaking...
Nearly 20 years after first finding the sunken remains of the R.M.S. Titanic, marine explorer Robert Ballard returned in June 2004, helped by the NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration to study the ship's rapid deterioration.
The Titanic team worked aboard NOAA Ship Ronald H. Brown from May 30 through June 9, spending 11 days at the wreck site, mapping the ship and conducting scientific analysis of its deterioration.
The team used Institute for Exploration (IFE) remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) Hercules and Argus to conduct a sophisticated documentation of the state of Titanic was not possible in the 1980s.
This "look, don't touch" mission used high-definition video and stereoscopic still images to provide an updated assessment of the wreck site at a depth of 3,840 meters (12,600 feet).
As the nation's ocean agency, NOAA has a vested interest in the scientific and cultural aspects of the Titanic and in its appropriate treatment and preservation. NOAA's focus is to build a baseline of scientific information from which we can measure the shipwreck's processes and deterioration, and then apply the knowledge we gain to other deepwater shipwrecks and submerged cultural resources.

Can you image how the Titanic must have looked once it hit the ocean floor? It was in pristine condition, sat there miles beneath the ocean. Apart from it being ripped apart, it must have looked mysterious.

The music is perfect. It sounds really sad and desolate but also somehow peaceful at the same time. It also sounds very much like water flowing gently. After 100 years it is now a graveyard; haunting but peaceful at the same time. I've always liked the German word "Friedhof" for graveyard. Literally translated it means "peace yard".

To think, it hit an iceberg one freezing night in April 1912, and it's been resting there ever since. That ship once had a captain, a crew, passengers with dreams of moving to America. It's amazing and tragic at once.

This used to give me a horrid nightmare. I'd crawled up a pipe thing to try to reach the top but the ship sank. The water got higher and higher and i was trapped.
I was somehow alive in a horrible dark cold place full of dead as the ship sank lower and lower.
I always woke up at that point.

There is an eerie tranquillity about this place. Such terror, such suffering all those years ago; now the wreckage of the great ship sits shrouded in darkness, bathed in silence, like a monument in the inhospitable black. Slowly being eaten away by tiny creatures, the ship is being returned to the Earth.

I cried once I started playing it, but then after a while I came to think it is impossible even to have the youngest survivors alive now in 2015. So at least I'm grateful because I still can see RMS Titanic grew very old underneath the ocean and she tells us the tragic story of 103 years ago.

the ship that people called the unsinkable and challenged God to sink it was sunken by some ice, and this is the most important lesson of this sinking, know your limits as a human, do not challenge nature do not ever think that your mind could do anything

I was messing around on Google Earth, just reading the I survived the sinking of the Titanic book I had randomly picked from the Elementary school scholastic fair they had. Here I am around 15 years later, the music still haunting me and the videos that fueled my historical nerdy side. RMS Titanic, The beginning of me becoming a historical nerd.

It's so strange knowing that the titanic, at this very, very, very moment is down there, on it's own, in the middle of nowhere, in darkness, with so much tragedy behind it, so much history behind it, so many traces of souls on it, resting, resting on it's own in darkness, no help, no human contact anywhere, away from civilization, away from the surface where water meets air and the light. Titanics amazing.

@keith4291 Me too. Ever sinced I watched the first film in 1986 at the age of six detailing her discovery, I have been fascinated by the Titanic from that very day. Not a day goes by without me thinking about her. One image that has stuck in my mind from that day, is a piece of footage of a light fixture hanging from the ceiling near the grand staircase on A deck and the outline left on the wall by the ornamental clock at the top of the grand staircase .

  • @clwgirl510
    @clwgirl510 13 лет назад

@garrvue Even if it could be lifted up, it would completely fall apart. It's beyond rusted and the wooden interior would break at the touch. Not to mention the water pressure it's used to. Even if was possible to bring it up, it would fall apart. However, the most "stable" piece is the front half, because when it sank it adjusted to the water pressure, but the back half quickly had the water pressure forced on to it .

It`s sad to see this, especially with the haunting audio. Anytime I review world history where a man made disaster takes place, I always say the same thing. The biggest man made disasters are always caused by two key ingrediants, the stupidity of man and the gullibility of people. The kicker to me is "unsinkable". My father once said to me "You put enough holes in anything it`s gonna sink" RIP to all who parished on the Titanic And to the survivors who lived the nightmare.

i think that most of them are wrong when saying that ship is fragile, you cant say that is for sure, just because its covered in rusticles, maybe will be all wrong, maybe the ship is good structural condition, ignore her apearance now.. im pretty sure if tried raise her she would lift whitout eny big failures, maybe only section when submersible has been are more damaged then other parts.. that doesnt mean that entire structure is collapsing

  • @timberbee1197

if only we had been able to raise it in the 80s, it could’ve made it. If only we had maybe found it in the 50s or 60s it would’ve been able to be preserved pretty well. unfortunately we just couldn’t. now it will slowly fade away into nothing and 30 years from now it will never be seen again :(

I saw a RUclips presentation by a guy who believed that the Titanic was swapped for its sister ship The Olympic. The Olympic had had a devastating collision with a Navy vessel and the insurers refused to pay out - which would have bankrupt White Star Line. He claimed that the damaged Olympic was refit and passed off as the Titanic, and that it was meant to sink, for various reasons, one of which being the insurance payout.
