    Filmed on 3rd June 2022.
A routine working of train 6N40, the weekday afternoon DB Cargo steel slabs from Tees N.Y. to Skinningrove B.S.C. and train 6N53, the return empties a short while later.
On duty today is DB's 66152, hauling a rake of 17 BEA bogie bolster wagons (the front 16 of which are loaded with steel slabs for the British Steel special profiles plant at Skinningrove).
The Skinningrove plant, which is operated by British Steel Limited (a subsidiary of Chinese steel maker Jingye Group), is accessed along the 4.5 mile single freight line running between Saltburn West Junction and the ICL Boulby potash mine.
Much of the line traces the route of the Cleveland Way, with breathtaking cliff top views and stunning countryside. At its nearest point the railway is only 20 metres from the cliff face.
British Steel has just confirmed that it will be investing £26 million to upgrade the Skinningrove plant, which will see several new operations introduced over the next few years. The investment should also secure production at the site for decades into the future.
DB holds the contract for the operation of potash trains from ICL Boulby. There are 3 return runs to the potash mine most weekdays and occasional weekend runs. I'll get back for some potash trains later this summer.
