Comes to pass me the towel when I pull the plug out of the bath. Opens the washer door and puts the towel in then shuts the door again. Takes the recycling out to the plastic bins. Springers have a lot of energy but it is controlled. Some high energy dogs are idiots but springers are super smart. I like the fact that they don’t dog shed as much as my lab but they need to go to the groomer every month or two.

Best, best, best breed there is. They say springers are very energetic, but I'm on my second one and neither of mine was super hyper at all. In fact my current springer is the mellowest dog I ever had (I don't even need a leash). My last one was more active and playful, but not above average and he adapted to apartment living very well. They're the most affectionate dogs I know, highly intelligent. They don't shed. All they do is love you to pieces, so much so that they hate being alone. That part is true. But they're so wonderful, you never want to leave them behind. As for looks, no finer creature walked the face of the earth. Yeah, I kinda like springers. :)

Ours is 12 years old. She is the best dog that we have ever had and everyone always loves her. When we visit friends and family she has to go to. She has basically helped raise the kiddos. She guards them, keeps them close, helps put them to bed. Perfectly behaved. Easily trained. I hope she stays forever.

Amazing dog, still talked about by my friends thirty years later. But, one thing is right, they don't like to be alone.Bathing never a problem, just walked it to the Cromarty Firth each day, then splash!

Loving and loyal, energetic and eager to please...Springers have been the furry companions chosen by many in our family for decades. They are beautiful on the inside and outside. However, choose a reputable breeder as sadly seizures has become more common...which may also be due to the poisons in many commercial dog foods and our declining environment. God Bless the beautiful English Spring Spaniels!! Once you own one...you will understand in your heart why they stand above the K9 crowd.

You state a high prey drive as a bad thing, springers are hunting dogs, they're supposed to have a high prey drive, probably not the best attribute for a city dog, but for someone who spends a lot of time in the fields or forests, or lives out in the country, they're just fine, as long as the dog can be called off of game being chased. Springers are gonna springer! They actually have their beginnings in Shakespearian times (late 1500's - early 1600's) originating in Spain, the term spaniel dates back to the late 1300's, as; middle English: spayne, old French: espaigno, Spanish (dog), a derivative of espaigne, Spain. I've got my 4th, springer now, I fell in love with the breed over 40 years ago. They are a higher maintenance dog, needing a good brushing several times a week, their fur has a waxy coating that helps them shed dirt and mud from their fur, (all over your home!) the waxy flakes also put a lot of dander everywhere, so frequent vacuuming is necessary. Highly intelligent, eager to learn, eager to please, lovable and friendly, I'll have a springer in my home for the rest of my life.

I was raised with an ESS and I couldn't have asked for a better friend. As an older adult, I was fortunate enough to adopt one, and I couldn't have made a better choice ! He was 6 months old when I adopted him and I was lucky enough to have him for 11 years. He got sick in November and I didn't leave his side. He got very bad in late December. In early January, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Everything was so fast at that point and my double mastectomy was scheduled for mid February. In late January he started to really go downhill and i was having to carry him outside and hold him up while he went to the bathroom. I knew i wouldn't be able to do that after surgery, so my husband's aunt took him to care for him (she lives on a huge farm with lots of animals). My precious baby lived until 3 days after my mastectomy. That was 5 years ago. I would love to have another one, but in searching around my state, the cheapest price I could find for them is $400. I just can't afford that at this point in my life. I keep praying that I will be lucky enough to find one for adoption.
If you have the chance to get one, it would be a decision that you wouldn't regret !!!
