The shameless interview conducted by Barkha Dutt felt more like a political advertisement for the TMC than an actual interview. Sagarika even cleared the rape perpetrator in Sandeshkhali's case.

Her interview is the most hilarious one. She and her party definitely has ideological, political and identity crisis. I mean Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is a contesting MP of Congress and same is Annie Raja yet they're are "allies" which shows that there govt would be the most unstable ones if they at all comes in power. It'll be just like the 1970s and 1980s end when we had 2 PMs in a span of 2-3 years like Moraji Desai and Charan Singh or VP Singh and Chandrashekhar. How can a party or politician who are opposing each other be allies? And Mamta Banerjee isn't a dictator when a cartoonist is put in jail, she isn't misogynist when she despite being a woman is saying rape charges are a conspiracy but Narendra Modi is a dictator when clearly Rana Ayyub, Zubair, Dhruv Rathee and anti-modi ecosystem are roaming freely. Mamta's character has been vilified and Modi is truly like Hitler? So if Mamta is a saint then how come she and her brethren know that Modi is anti-muslim or dictator when they don't know him personally. Isn't his mother, family or parents being brought in? Don't they abuse him on his looks or just because he was a chai-wala? Did she speak up for that when Mani Shanker Iyer called him a neech? Sagarika has no shame. She and Rajdeep have seen Mamata's authoritarianism firsthand. When they were both at CNN-IBN 12 years ago there was a time when Mamata appeared for an interview with a panel of students. When she was questioned by students on her government she got angry, called them "Maoist" and left the interview. Soon after the West Bengal police asked CNN-IBN to share the identities of the students!
Really shameful for her to join that same party and that too in the name of freedom of speech!

Barkha, it's an open secret among journalists that Mamata Bannerjee is an authoritarian in her own right(Dhruv Rathee has called her "Modi in a saree") and that her TMC party, which Sagarika joined, is an illiberal party that uses fear and violence to cement its rule in West Bengal. Even Sagarika's husband Rajdeep has written about it in his books on the 2014 and 2019 elections.
You should have asked her how she, as a journalist who wants to oppose authoritarian leaders and muzzling of the media, could join a party such as the TMC which is doing the same thing she accused Modi of, just in a single state.
She keeps saying, Main stream media didn't allow her to "express her views". How come you didn't ask for instances where that has happened ? The problem is not democracy, the problem is that these so called journalists initially had say in government matters and they had complete access to Congress govt. They used to praise Congress govt excessively and in return they used to get favours from Congress regime. For example, Ambika Soni has given permission to Sagarika illegal construction of her house. These so called journalists used to travel in PM flight to foreign countries. These people used to get exceptional treatment like hotel facilities, special wining and dining parties. Now in Modi's era all these things are over. Modi don't even give interviews. They are completely elianated, that's why they are frustrated. Democracy was never in danger. It was only in danger when emergency was imposed on it.
