I am thankful to say that I saw him live with Sly , with Grand Central Station, with Prince and met him in person back stage at a show in Cleveland. He is a great musician, wonderful person and a humble spiritual brother.
Graham Central Station and Larry Graham will always be one of my favorites when I want to jam! “ The Jam”, “ I Can’t Stand the Rain “ , “On Top of Old Smoky,” etc. are just a few of my favorites.
He has an antique pedal called the Jet-Phaser that makes that effect which is basically a flange/phase effect. He talks about it in the Japanese Super Slappin Bass video.
so i was sitting down with my bass, ready to try and play along during the intro. i was gettin all excited and ready to go. Soon as he started playin.. i just started laughing. noway im keeping up with that. Hes so damn good
The BEST concert I have ever seen was Larry Graham and GCS. They opened for Earth Wind and Fire but when they left the stage, the crowd left with him. There was nothing left to see or experience. They turned the place out! I’ll bet that EW&F never made that mistake again. Larry and Company are outstanding and complete showmen and ladies.
@@1retdGI it’s not a diss. EWF is a great studio band and I put Maurice White in any conversation about musical genius. But there would be too many musicians all moving around the stage to be as effective as they could so they didn’t sound like they did in their studio recordings. Same with the Isley Brothers. Don’t hate. Just straight facts. And don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t trade either band for anybody doing music today. But there was tremendous talent back in the 60’s and 70’s that don’t get accolades or respect. Larry Graham and his band were great live. And the greatest band that absolutely does not get the respect or recognition that they deserve is War! War was one of the first and best band that introduced funk and rap! I don’t want to divide or diminish. That era of music is the best the world has enjoyed. When you had to have talent to make music. I will forever be grateful for them all. And Stevie! The greatest of them all!!!
I'm a long time fan, since 1970, and if theres ever any doubt about this man or his band, GCS, just try to find a recording or video of 1975 show "the Midnight Special". All doubts will be forever erased. Its now 2008 and and still have it fresh in my mind. Its the reason Stanley and Marcus and many others are fans of his.
This song 🎶 bring back old memories, still listening in 2023 He have a soulful voice! This is my favorite song 🎶 so tell me are you a fan of Larry Graham…?
Mimi is a great singer, you had to listen to this Japan live' 92 Try to find the following key word and listen once. "Graham Central Staion "LIVE IN JAPAN '92" ラリー・グラハム"
Good God! Larry Graham got that Hendrix in him - gotta love those space bass effects! I don't know who that Asian female is, but she got some soul in her!
How was Japanese TV so funky? there's video here on YT of the Quincy Jones arrangement of Ai No Corrida with an extended Louis Johnson bass solo at the end that appeared on Japanese TV. Huge Japanese horn section funkin' it up.
I used to learn practice licks by marcus miller and stanley but i didn't get really funky unitl I discovered Graham. After playing Graham licks those Stanley and Marcus licks started to sound better! His licks may sound simple compared to other slappers...but try playing "release yourself" and singing it at the same time!
AINT NOOOBODY!!! BAAAAD LIKE THEEEE GODDDFATHERRR OF THUMPIN & PLUCKIN WOULD'NT NONE OF BE THUMPIN & PLUCKIN IF IT WAS'NT FOR GRAHAM HATZ OFF TO YA BRO.!!!👍👍👍
Love Love this crak basses he is the godfather of the funky bass, he had playing like that ever sense he was fifteen , that is what makes him the greatest bass player of all time no dough he is super bad . This need to come back and show these musicians how to play a real bass bad dude yes he is !!!!
This song 🎶 bring back old memories, still listening in 2023 He have a soulful voice! This is my favorite song 🎶 so tell me are you a fan of Larry Graham…?
Just got off the JayKing Network with John "Sly" Wilson of Sly Slick& Wicked, he told me to go to youtube and check out Larry Grahams Hair.... OMG!!!!! SOOOO Funky and GROOVY!!! : )
Unfortunately I don't think they make musicians like anyone in the 60s and 70s anymore. Now almost any ol' kid can throw some "beats" together on a $100 keyboard.
This song 🎶 bring back old memories, still listening in 2023 He have a soulful voice! This is my favorite song 🎶 so tell me are you a fan of Larry Graham…?
A stellar talent among soul musicians whose prowess never fully crystallized in large measure owing the scandalous glare bedeviling his affiliation with Jehovah's Witnesses and there stringent proscriptions on some forms of music.
you are 100% right. people just don't give enough respect to people who invented stuff..larry grham is more than a genius, and people don't give him enough credit on my perspective. always when someone speaks about a really good bass player,it's always victor wooten/Flea(red hot chili peppers)..and it really pisses me off sometimes.
I am always wondering if LG is the "Jimi Hendrix" of bass guitar :-) He is using lots of effects (Jet-Phaser, Juggernaut, Mutron) and is a good singer as well - like JH

Singing and playing this at the same time is insanely funky!
And is very hard to do. I'm still trying it after many years of practice.

There’s a reason that Prince loved this man, right here 💪🏽
He is my spiritual brother, my friend. I have known Larry for close to 20 yrs
Give Larry our love... just learned this last night 🤘🤘🤘.
@@amg.4195 that’s awesome!

He has an antique pedal called the Jet-Phaser that makes that effect which is basically a flange/phase effect. He talks about it in the Japanese Super Slappin Bass video.
He loved his Mutron pedal equally.
and don't forget the "Juggernaut" ;-)
Thought it was a type of fuzz
I thought it was just flange effect. I'll have to check that video out!
Thumping and Plucking, somebody else came up with that Bull S"" t slap bass , I myself played the Bass Guitar in the 70's Thumping and Plucking bro.

you can really see how Larry graham influenced Marcus miller in his playing style
He influenced everyone who slapped, since the man basically invented the technique.
Larry is the funkest bass player on this planet.
The thumb master himself ladies and gentlemen, Mr Larry Graham.
How was Japanese TV so funky? there's video here on YT of the Quincy Jones arrangement of Ai No Corrida with an extended Louis Johnson bass solo at the end that appeared on Japanese TV. Huge Japanese horn section funkin' it up.
Japanese and Americans are distant blood relatives. That's why Americans love Japanese culture and Japanese love American culture.
Larry Graham is just to awesome on basss...one of the best.....
At 1:53 Larry Graham's funk tears a hole in the space time continuum.

Don't be cruel. The woman is, first of all, a lady. Secondly, she's a child of God who happens to be Japanese.
At 1:36 i thought he broke his string but it was just sooooo tight
Hello me six years later
I had a flu. After listening to Larry slap it, the flu was gone.

^this comment right here. technique is cool and all, but Larry was different because he could GROOVE. He's one of my favorites for that reason
i always wondered what happened to him after sly and the family. man he can really bang those strings!!!!
With the possible exception of Nick Holt …….Larry graham is about the best bass player I’ve seen!
RESPECT GRAHAM!!!! HE Basically influenced Victor Wooten to slap
The iconic "Fuzz Phaser"...
Hendrix of the BASS!!! xxxxx
My brother played bass, piano and sang lead too and he didn't read music...
He could play any song in any key.. 5 minutes and he had it down...
yo i just noticed it damn Larry use a guitar stand instead of spending all that loot on effects!
