Nixon was actually intelligent and too some degree (though I'm not sure how much) actually cared about the country he was President of. His 21st century counterpart is utterly selfish and could care less about the country he faked bone spurs for to prevent from serving.
@@inkyguy @Mary Wilder Nixon was way more intelligent and politically astute than Trump; what makes Trump dangerous is that our 21st century hyperpartisan Congress is a menace in that it won't coordinate across the aisle in the national interest. If Nixon had had such a Congress he wouldn't have had to resign and could have become a truly dangerous demagogue.
I remember as a kid listening every weekday night at 10.07 after the news to CBSRMT and during the summer I'd stay up for Larry King and catch his show and the repeat right after. Always been a night owl..Oh and Sunday nights had Dr.Dimento on FM preceded by the King Biscuit Flower Hour...Such joy...
Too funny to hear the original commercials. This was almost 40 yrs ago and they were talking about letting women into the work place. We're here now and a study just found said we won't make as much as men until the year 2060 or so.
Ian Butler, that is based on the same or comparable work. Just this last week it was revealed that women doing the same jobs as men in Silicon Valley - hardly a regressive, traditional sector of the economy - earn less money.
People can't even listen to CBS Radio Mystery Theater without making it political and shitting all over it and making political comments about it in the Comments section. Are we able to have anything anymore without people pissing in it and poisoning it? Can I please just enjoy a nice episode of CBS Radio Mystery Theater on its own terms as classic radio entertainment? WITHOUT political comments????
I agree up to a point, i.e. when an episode is uploaded without newscasts. But news, particularly news about Patty Hearst and especially Watergate news, is a game changer.
Wow. Nixon desperately trying to turn people's attention from his impeachable offenses. Budweiser discouraging sipping beer, and recommending that we instead take big manly drafts of their hearty beverage. And Kellog's fueling the early stages of the low fat, grain based diet craze which would lead to our current diabesity epidemic. Not sure all those showed up in this episode's commercials and news breaks. But they've been running themes.
Nothing supernatural in this story. I haven't listened to the episode yet, but from the plot synopsis and reviews apparently the guy kills his wife & her lover, buries them under the gravel mound, a hurricane comes in and strips away the dirt exposing the corpus delicti of his dirty deed.
Serves wifey right I say. Play with fire you'll get burned. If you want to leave a man... or woman leave them, but don't play those sorts of games. Of course... any sensible person will realize that saying it serves her right is not the same as condoning murder. I certainly do not do that.
Marriage is the chief cause of divorce (was it Groucho who said that?). Jealous people shouldn't marry. People who can't be honest with a partner shouldn't marry. There are lots of other reasons not to marry, for instance any couple that hasn't already thoroughly discussed kids and made sure they agree on all points (whether to have any/how many/exactly how to raise them). If they're totally on the same page I'm not even sure that's reason enough to marry. Marriage has ruined many a beautiful romance, many a close friendship and many a smoothly functioning domestic partnership. Why DO people get married anyhow? Only a couple good reasons come to my mind, mainly sometimes there's a tax advantage.
Love the news, ads and stories....Thank you!!
Commercials/ News Radio are priceless. Pres. Nixon and Watergate, Patty Hearst, Pres.. Assad & Henry Kissenger... Historical events!
Commercials are part of the reason I dont bother with TV these days. It is nice to hear the old commercials and current events of the mid 70's.
I'm from KC and this is great to hear local news. The national news is great as well.
interesting to compare whats changed and what hasn't, especially the episodes with the news.

Wonderful. Nixon was a pussycat compared to what we have now! Loved them, thank you.

Patti Hearst and the SLA wow I haven't heard that since 1975
Kentucky Derby is "tomorrow" which was May 4th, 1974 so this broadcast was definitely May 3rd, 1974!
Also, when Nixon says, "The time has come to put Watergate behind us", love it!
I loved when obama said his administration was scandal free. Im still laughing.

Hahaha, I'm also laughing, even tough it's dead serious. ;-)
Greetings from Germany!
"The outlook for Kansas City, COOL....." HA! Like the Nixon updates, too!

I love the news
The NOW service message though. Far Out.

I've been listening to dr. Chuck Missler and Dr Gene Kim. And it's amazing that history repeats itself.
I wonder how much bud cost way back then.
