The culture shocks you speak about are probably based on the area you are currently living in. I'm someone who loves spices and was brought up around that. I've been to many parts of Dominica and trust me, the spices totally exist, in the way they season their food. As your studying the places where you eat out are probably toning down the way they season there food to cater for everybody, as their a lot of people coming from all over the world, who may not be used to the original way they use all the different spices. But saying that I'm from England and I've been to different Indian restaurants, where the food is well seasoned with a variety well known spices used in India and go to another Indian restaurant and the taste is bland. The same with Jamaican restaurants. Sometimes it comes down to the chef and catering for other cultures who may not be used to their original way of that particular culture, use of spices and seasoning. In regards to the colours used to paint houses, I hate all those type of colours used, but that's down to the individual taste, it's not every single person's taste on the island. Dominica had many different fast food chain including McDonalds, These all disappeared years back, can't remember the reasons why. Also the night life in Dominica was always hoping, although it may be quiet than before, its proper lively in different parts of Dominica.
Am Dominican, If you'll know who's running the country, you will know why the country is like this. Twenty something years ago, Dominica had more franchises, then the country dropped to the buttom, hmm ! It's heart breaking💔. Most Dominican like chilling out at home at holiday time. When comes to cooking, every Dominican cook differently, few Dominicans like spicy foods, but we cook tasty food. We will cook with only onions, garlic, green seasonings, salt, and the food will be tasty, I guess is bcuz we are a mixed race. Africans, Jamaicans, and Haitians are similar in many ways than Dominicans, i guess this is why you'll like spicy foods. Most Dominicans, stay away from the kitchen one day in the week, we do not cook, on that day we might prepare a light meal or snack or maybe even KFC, not all of us like KFC though. Is always the same faces you will see at KFC, and others will only go there if they are in town for the day.
This is the first time i have ever seen anyone with so many negatives on dominica. I have visited many many caribbean isands and dominuca is by far one of the best. Its very very safe and peaceful and that makes it stand out for me. I feel like the jamaican lady was being a bit unfair though
@@thrivingwithashley okay so I’ve sat and watched more of your content and I must apologise for misinterpreting this video as ganging up, I really enjoyed your videos and it looks like you had a great experience out there, I guess you know know my origins better than me now lol because I have only been to the islands once on holiday.
