“… past few years”? More like past several decades! The TMNT is one of the few franchises/brand that successfully reinvents and rebrand itself into relevancy and I love that! I wished the Thundercats (my all-time favorite cartoon) had the same level of success. 😢
With Shredder's Revenge having had such a success. They had big shoes to fill as people were obviously going to make a comparison and if you can't be better than that game well...this will probably not translate into sales.
Ever since Shredder's Revenge, anything they try to come out with will fall flat. That game is peak TMNT. Cowabunga Collection is a nostalgia trip with mostly amazing TMNT games. I got this game only because its TMNT. They others are far superior but this isn't the worst game to ever exist

I put off watching the 2012 series for so long. It looked kiddy, but when I finally watched it. WOW... amazingly written and one of the best TMNT stories ever. On par with the 2003 series.
Nonsense! Streets of Rage 4 and TMNT Shredders Revenge are in this 2020's decade and both are modern classics. Nb. Dotemu didnt have anything to do with this TMNT game though.

I think they are up pricing games now cause they've got us trained that it will be on sale eventually for what it should have been priced at launch. Like I get popularity increases prices but even indies that used to be $5 are now $20 and not many really have gone up that much in quality or length.
Bought this last night but desperately wish their was a counter attack button to block attacks just like Shredders Revenge has. 7 out of 10. Worth the price tag ⭐️

This game came out in 2017 in arcade. Idk how it went. But I'd assume that there was sometype of contract that locked this game to be arcade only. And the contract was up, and nickelodeon decided to release it to the public for purchase. But yea either way. Took a bit.

Darksiders 3 is a fully 3D game & the range attack enemies are such a pain, also it can be overwhelming when a number of enemies are up against you so it can apply to other games too
I think you've been a bit generous with the visuals there... you used the word "soul-less" and that nails it. Honestly this wouldn't stand out on the PS2. I'll stick to the Cowabunga Collection!
But it looks just like the show so you have to give the game credit for that. Cutscenes, etc would have helped with that and a better use of the voice actors as the interactions was where the soul of the show came from. Glen

0:48 - that's weid, because I watched a gameplay of the arcade gane and that DOES have an intro cutscene (kind of, it just shows Shredder capturing April and daring the Turtles to come after him). It's a weird decision they added new content but felt the need to get hid of the intro.

As far as the planes portion goes... treat it like an isometric fighter that the camera has panned down to be more from the side. I was never a fan of the planes as I hated missing the enemy from being just slightly too high/down on said plane, but I get that others might want to not worry about surrounding enemies. As far as getting this game... the price needs to drop, it's overpriced for how little is actually here.

This wasn’t much of an arcade game when it first came out. It didn’t even have a normal control scheme if I remember correctly. It was as basic and bare bones as it gets. Completely aimed at children and normally found in the middle of a bunch of redemption games. None of this is bad mind you, but it was definitely never meant for home consoles. I can definitely see how it wouldn’t quite make the transition smoothly.

After playing Shredder's Revenge, This one is a bit of a miss imo. The side scrolling aspect just feels so much better. Might pick it up when it's on sale instead. Input latency is also a big miss for me, too, unfortunately. Great review guys! Love your work as always!
It kinda seems like the only reason to pick this over Shredder’s Revenge is nostalgia for this specific version of the Turtles over the ‘87 show. It seems fine enough, but why play this when it seems inferior to SR in just about every way?
Not interested in this one but I wanted to recommend it to my older brother. He grew up with the Turtles and loved Shredder's Revenge and the Cowabunga Collection. I'll probably wait for a sale and mention it to him then.

What an odd pricing structure in this one. The physical is cheaper than the digital, even with the preorder discount on the digital version. $29 Canadian for the physical, $33 Canadian preorder price for the digital… something is off here.
If this was based of the classic 1987-1996 cartoon i would be all over this. Anything after that, not my thing. Just give me TMNT set on the original 1984 graphic novel, 1987-1996 cartoon and the awesome first two (we don't talk about the third) live action movies. Oh... and The Last Ronin.
Looking at it im pretty certain this arcade game was one of a certain breed of Nickelodeon arcade games designed for Chuck ‘E Cheese and/or similar young child arcade entertainment centers. Which is slightly a shame as i wouldn’t mind a quality bet em up set in the 2012 universe.

I guess its an age thing but my era of the TMNT is the 80's cartoon and early 90's live action films and have no interest in the Nickelodeon-era visuals. Between having the arcade & 16-bit games in the Cowabunga collection and the amazing love-letter-to-fans Shredder's Revenge, I've got enough turtle beat 'em up goodness to last a while.
Figures the only way game mill can create a good game is if it was 90% premade by a different company. Apparently a guy that loves the arcade game said this one is worth buying but that was from a fan if the original one.

Well, TMNT is something that you can't really successfully modernize in my opinion. You keep the whole formula the same as it's prior releases, or you simply release...well....this, and fail miserably. This could've been so much better. The franchise has left the door WIDE open for great future developments, and this one just fails horribly in the franchise. Very disappointing. Great video guys! Ever since Shredder's Revenge, anything they try to come out with will fall flat. That game is peak TMNT. Cowabunga Collection is a nostalgia trip with mostly amazing TMNT games. I got this game only because its TMNT. They others are far superior but this isn't the worst game to ever exist

I put off watching the 2012 series for so long. It looked kiddy, but when I finally watched it. WOW... amazingly written and one of the best TMNT stories ever. On par with the 2003 series.

I think they are up pricing games now cause they've got us trained that it will be on sale eventually for what it should have been priced at launch. Like I get popularity increases prices but even indies that used to be $5 are now $20 and not many really have gone up that much in quality or length.

This game came out in 2017 in arcade. Idk how it went. But I'd assume that there was sometype of contract that locked this game to be arcade only. And the contract was up, and nickelodeon decided to release it to the public for purchase. But yea either way. Took a bit.

Rise was an abomination and doesn't deserve a game.
Darksiders 3 is a fully 3D game & the range attack enemies are such a pain, also it can be overwhelming when a number of enemies are up against you so it can apply to other games too
I think you've been a bit generous with the visuals there... you used the word "soul-less" and that nails it. Honestly this wouldn't stand out on the PS2. I'll stick to the Cowabunga Collection!
But it looks just like the show so you have to give the game credit for that. Cutscenes, etc would have helped with that and a better use of the voice actors as the interactions was where the soul of the show came from. Glen

0:48 - that's weid, because I watched a gameplay of the arcade gane and that DOES have an intro cutscene (kind of, it just shows Shredder capturing April and daring the Turtles to come after him).
It's a weird decision they added new content but felt the need to get hid of the intro.

As far as the planes portion goes... treat it like an isometric fighter that the camera has panned down to be more from the side. I was never a fan of the planes as I hated missing the enemy from being just slightly too high/down on said plane, but I get that others might want to not worry about surrounding enemies.
As far as getting this game... the price needs to drop, it's overpriced for how little is actually here.
Yeah, it's just worth mentioning as it's unusual for a beat-em up. It's fine, I just prefer the more traditional way. Glen

This wasn’t much of an arcade game when it first came out. It didn’t even have a normal control scheme if I remember correctly. It was as basic and bare bones as it gets. Completely aimed at children and normally found in the middle of a bunch of redemption games. None of this is bad mind you, but it was definitely never meant for home consoles. I can definitely see how it wouldn’t quite make the transition smoothly.

I'm not sure about this one. I am interested in the upcoming Turtle's rouge-like (lite?) games coming this summer though. it looks really good. Hades, but with TMNT characters? sign me up!
After playing Shredder's Revenge, This one is a bit of a miss imo. The side scrolling aspect just feels so much better. Might pick it up when it's on sale instead.
Input latency is also a big miss for me, too, unfortunately.

It kinda seems like the only reason to pick this over Shredder’s Revenge is nostalgia for this specific version of the Turtles over the ‘87 show. It seems fine enough, but why play this when it seems inferior to SR in just about every way?
Not interested in this one but I wanted to recommend it to my older brother. He grew up with the Turtles and loved Shredder's Revenge and the Cowabunga Collection. I'll probably wait for a sale and mention it to him then.

I like the older ones, the repetition and design of the characters in the latest makes it very boring.
What an odd pricing structure in this one. The physical is cheaper than the digital, even with the preorder discount on the digital version.
$29 Canadian for the physical, $33 Canadian preorder price for the digital… something is off here.
If this was based of the classic 1987-1996 cartoon i would be all over this. Anything after that, not my thing. Just give me TMNT set on the original 1984 graphic novel, 1987-1996 cartoon and the awesome first two (we don't talk about the third) live action movies. Oh... and The Last Ronin.
Looking at it im pretty certain this arcade game was one of a certain breed of Nickelodeon arcade games designed for Chuck ‘E Cheese and/or similar young child arcade entertainment centers. Which is slightly a shame as i wouldn’t mind a quality bet em up set in the 2012 universe.

I guess its an age thing but my era of the TMNT is the 80's cartoon and early 90's live action films and have no interest in the Nickelodeon-era visuals. Between having the arcade & 16-bit games in the Cowabunga collection and the amazing love-letter-to-fans Shredder's Revenge, I've got enough turtle beat 'em up goodness to last a while.
Figures the only way game mill can create a good game is if it was 90% premade by a different company. Apparently a guy that loves the arcade game said this one is worth buying but that was from a fan if the original one.
There are much better beat em ups on the Switch. There are much better TMNT beat em ups on Switch. That's the game's biggest problem. Glen

Well, TMNT is something that you can't really successfully modernize in my opinion. You keep the whole formula the same as it's prior releases, or you simply release...well....this, and fail miserably. This could've been so much better. The franchise has left the door WIDE open for great future developments, and this one just fails horribly in the franchise. Very disappointing. Great video guys! The art style is very odd. The first thing I noticed was the very angular faces.
Seems like the developers just could have across the board done a bit better...
When you see Game Mill as a publisher you can almost guarantee it’s going to suck
This looks like a quick 15 dollar game. Shame it's not as refined as it could be and it definitely looks floaty.
I'll stick with Shredder's Revenge until The Last Ronin game launches.
We have this arcade at our local Peter Piper Pizzas.

Unfortunate they can’t figure out how to make a good turtles game when they’re plenty to study as a developer and base the game on. Looks dreadful to play.

dang, I just got it and laying on my table to be played. I'll still play it because it's turtles but I'm mad I supported a cash grab off a popular title.
