Excellent my friend.. Very helpful!
Thanks dude! Hope to see you at NAB or Cinegear
I am not even in the industry, but this is so fascinating. It's complicated but you make it seem so easy.
Thanks for the love. Phantom high speed is very specialty work but really fun and satisfying as a career.
@@chrisvanderschaaf Just to get the lighting just right for high speed shots is an artwork, and complicated.
Q: what ELSE should you be filming in ?
A: a slowmo of Uranium Ore in a Cloud Chamber
P: please
that sounds amazing
Great Video !
Thanks dude!

Stoked to have you here
Love 1000 fps for smashes 🤘🏻
The best
What do you think about making the shot many times to find the best FPS vs just shooting at a high frame rate and post processing to drop the excess frames? If you might need 1000 FPS you have to show up with the lights to shoot 1000 FPS, so why not just shoot that and if it's too fast you can drop every other frame for 500 FPS or 2 of every 3 frames to get 333 etc. It's a tradeoff of time on set vs time in post, but what about other considerations.
It looks better to shoot it the way you want in camera. Sometimes on set people shoot things at a higher fps than they need but there are some considerations. You can have some weird shutter angle issues when you speed things up to take a 1000fps shot down to a 240 shot. Things can end up more like an action film with a super high shutter angle kinda staccato and not a natural motion blur for the frame rate it would have been shot at in camera for 240. (Which is not always a desired effect) Another thing to consider is camera record time. How phantom cameras record is they only have certain buffer times depending on resolution, frame rate, and internal memory. You might only have 5 seconds of real time to shoot a shot that takes 10 seconds of real time to capture (if that makes sense). It's not always as simple as just shoot everything as slow as possible and speed it up in post. In a perfect world I suggest trying to nail it in camera as close as possible and then sweeten things up in post.
Hey Chris can you tell me which one is better? chronos or wave ? I can't decide which one to choose :D, thank you
I would choose Chronos over the wave it has more features and a better image IMO... The ember is better than both but also a lot more expensive
@@chrisvanderschaaf thank you very much for yor answer, have a great day
@freeflysystems ember is 🔥
Hey Chris can you tell me which Raptor records 1000 fps, because I see that the maximum 2k is 600 fps ?
The red V raptor has to be windowed down to get 1000fps off the top of my head I don't remember the dimensions but it's smaller than HD. Next time I use it I will make a note and post it.
@@chrisvanderschaaf cool thanks it's a pity that you stopped making videos for YT, they are interesting and instructive
