So they are asking you to make your son hate you? Got it

So they are asking her to make her son just not hate them? Got it.

Forgiveness can not be forced. Them asking you to try to force it is not seeking forgiveness, but wanting to redirect your son's anger at you so they can try to play the hero.

This is a case where everyone is an a$$hole. Seriously, the kids NEEDS to grow up, THEIR wedding isnt about HIM. Get over yourself. As for the family, they suck too. Get a pair and talk to the kid, probably should have explained it better from the get-go and offered something immediate - a special post-reception event that the nephew could have been a part of. And OP is a crap parent - there is reasonable responses and overreacting, the kids is totally overreacting - again, over SOMEONE ELSE'S WEDDING THEY DIDNT PLAN. Dad needs to explain disappointment and the reasonable, healthy response to it. This kid is allowing a family and friend relationship of years die because of one incident that doesnt even really involve him - that is shallow and selfish. Everyone here sucks and fails as mature people, and the kid is doomed to be immature as well since daddy cant put his foot down and teach reasonable emotional response.

its a wedding that someone else is paying for.
It sucks the kid couldn't go, but it's definitely not worth holding a grudge over.
Saying that you cant exactly force someone to forgive someone else.
OP kinda sucks though as his brother didnt choose to exclude the kid, they only found the 'no kids' thing out a month before the wedding and at that point everything would have been locked in and organised. It would be pretty extreme to call the whole thing off and throw it elsewhere especially since the couple weren't the ones paying for it.
