8:21 - Did he just ignore TWO Bills defenders to block his own man?! 🤣 Gee, I wonder why their running game wasn't working (not having McNeil not withstanding)
Later that season the Jets would break their losing streak to the Bills, winning in Buffalo in an emotional game one week after Dennis Byrd’s career-ending neck injury.
That was a heck of a game; even Browning Nagle made a nice improv throw (I think it went for 29 yards to Rob Moore) off a snap that went over his head. The Jets were very emotional (that's how it felt to me anyway), but focused (they were often sloppy in 1992, but not here).
It's crazy because you and I both had the EXACT same solution to the problem. Having him go to a quiet place like the deeper part of the tunnel or even the locker room if need be while the Jets were on defense seems like the common sense move.
There was a controversial play on the bills last drive. The play clock hit zero, and kelly didn't get the snap off, but the refs didn't notice, so it didn't matter, and thurman thomas caught the game winning touchdown
Right on, SportsCenter pointed it out after the game during the highlight. I also remember that after the Jets took a 20-17 lead a replay showed Bruce Coslet hugging his daughter, who was carrying his communication cord for him. I still like that moment.
Reminds me of Neil O'Donnell when he played for the Jets during a game against the Lions in 1997 and he couldn't hear anything at all due to the crowd noise and the ref warned the crowd of Lions fans if they weren't going to quiet down they would take a way timeouts away from the the Lions. Which alienated the crowd and they got even louder. However this situation involving the Jets is far more serious due to a player's heath being heavily effected by the crowd noise. So I can understand why Coslet didn't tell or ask the crowd to be quiet he didn't want to alienate them because it would have backfired badly against them and make matters even worse for McNeil.
Then there was that time in '97 when the Jets were playing at Detroit, and Parcells spoke to the refs about the crowd noise.. so the refs had to ask the crowd to quiet down or their team would be penalized. So you were presented with a very awkward scene of DETROIT players making motions to the DETROIT crowd to quiet the noise. Absurdity. I've never heard of such a thing before or since. The game's here on youtube somewhere, I think posted by the NFL itself.. and it's oddly the same game that put Barry over 2000 yards for the season.
The next week, the buffering buffalo bills held off the 0-7 new england patriots at Rich Stadium, 16-7. That was a long, depressing, defensive struggle
Bills really struggled for 4 games after their blistering 4-0 start (losses to the Dolphins & Raiders, shaky wins here & that Patriots game), then played well to beat the Steelers, Dolphins, and Falcons, then became shaky again with losses to the Colts & Jets, a struggle against the Broncos on a Saturday, a gutty win in New Orleans vs. the Saints, and finally the Sunday Night dud against the Oilers. Very uneven season for them, but they did make it to the Super Bowl
This is very similar to what happened in 1976 with Sounders coach John Best in the Kingdome during the very first sporting event ever held at the stadium which was a preseason match between the Sounders & the NY Cosmos with the legendary Pele. Because of these two factors, the Kingdome (which had a capacity of 60,000 for football & soccer) was sold out & the largest crowd ever to see a Sounders game at the time because the previous two seasons, they had played at the significantly smaller Memorial Stadium which only sat 11,000. However on the day of the game, Sounders coach John Best had a head cold where he had a very stuffed up nose so much so that his speech was nasally. Despite this, he really wanted to coach in this game & for the pregame ceremonies along with warm ups he was fine. However once the match started the combination of the fans noise along with a buildup of gunk in his nose/head caused his ears to pop with blood coming out because there was so much of it. Best had to immediately leave the sidelines & head to the hospital because of this & assistant coach/player Harry Redknapp had to coach the rest of the match. As for how the match went, the Sounders lost 2-1 to the Cosmos with Pele scoring the winning goal which resulted in the crowd (many of whom were there to see Pele specifically) going absolutely crazy. To make this even more crazy, when the game ended, a group of about 150 kids stormed the field in an attempt to get Pele's autograph & Pele signed autographs for every single kid.
That's just bad luck for McNeil. I can't blame the fans at all. The fans did what they were supposed to do. That situation sucked for the Jets because McNeil definitely could've helped the team down the stretch.
Had the Jets won this game then the greatest comeback ever wouldn't have happened because the Bills would have been playing in San Diego and the Oilers would have hosted the Chiefs in the Wild Card round.
Another Great Insightfull video....but....my only conplaint is your listing of the Greatest Running Backs in NJ Jets history....While I agee that Freedman McNeal is one of them, you forgot both John Riggins and Emerson Boozer....who both played for the NY Jets and I would personally argue were as great as Freedman McNeal and better than Curtis Martin
This unofficial Official Jaguar Gator 9 historian will remind everyone you made a video about a Jets loss to the Bills in 1975 that was, in part, due to them not being able to get one yard in two plays on the ground near the end of the game.
Thanks! I’m not sure. I know the poll questions are just on Sunday mornings to predict the winners of the games. Other than that, polls are maybe once every other day, cause I’m right there with you
3:18 Can we take a moment to admired the old MNF helmet clashing intro. I wished they would bring it back
8:21 - Did he just ignore TWO Bills defenders to block his own man?! 🤣
Gee, I wonder why their running game wasn't working (not having McNeil not withstanding)
It looks like the Bills defenders went all Red Sea on him.
TF? It's the Florida o-linemen from 2013 vs Ga Southern (they actually did that again the next year vs S Carolina)
0:51 Just look at Audi Field and The Dome as they helped DC & St. Louis win games this year
Everyone thought Browning Nagle was going to be the Jets answer to QB. If you make the cover of Beckett you know hes going to be good
I was at this game. My bosses asked that I show up at work at 8am. I returned from the meadowlands at 2am or so.
So, did you show up to work at 8 AM? Also, were your bosses Jets fans?
This is one of the most bizarre stories you ever covered on this channel and that's really saying something.
Jets fans didn't know
Freeman McNeil fought for free agency in the NFL. It was ironic then that he retired just as players got unrestricted free agency.
It’s even more amazing he lasted as long as he did in the NFL being injury plagued at the position known for having short careers
I think part of having McNeil's name on the lawsuit was due to his first name being "Freeman". I like that though, use what you have to work with.
Wow... another great story. Thanks again for bringing up obscure and interesting facts about the NFL.

Which, incidentally, was also in prime time. Sunday Night Football.

Happy Sunday

Or, you know, ear plugs?
Actuallly, take a shot everytime OJG says actually

Maybe he shouldn't have thrown the sb

J-e-t-s can wait for tomorrow

Why didn't he wear earplugs?

Vs this Bills hurry up offense the crowd being quiet is not a big deal.
Had the Jets won this game then the greatest comeback ever wouldn't have happened because the Bills would have been playing in San Diego and the Oilers would have hosted the Chiefs in the Wild Card round.
My mother had intense migraines when she was younger. Going to get her in an equivalent situation was a no-go.
But we're talking about preventing the migraine entirely by having him avoid the noise in the first place.

Should have done what I have to do every day at work.... wear OSHA ear plugs.
the nfl on nick are doing it again, but this time it's for next year's super bowl

I enjoy the videos but I don't want my feed bombed with poll questions. Is there anyway to turn that off

This is the year for the Bills. 😂
Why you guys laughing?
Dig your channel.
Good stuff right? 😁👍
To think he would have been productive is wishfull thinking at best.
