"Every single thing that you learn really just gives you more comfort. It's something I counsel kids all the time: if someone is willing to teach you something for free, take them up on it. Do it. Every single time. All it does is make you more likely to be able to succeed. And it's kind of a nice way to go through life."

Canadians will say he is a national treasure, I think this is inaccurate; he is a global treasure! Truly one of the most incredible people of our generation x
I couldn't agree more.
totally agree ..incredibly intelligent, great personality...he's got it all..
i say he’s a cosmic treasure haha :)
rockstarJDP we all truly are global treasures because everyone is special in their own abilities and personality that no one else on the planet that you can find matches, that if we all work towards making Earth a better place and unlocked previously unknown knowledge. The future will truly go above and beyond in terms of human evolution in technology and knowledge, and one thing for certain that the possibilities for the people on Earth to discover life on day on another planet is as vast as the endlessness of space.
Not only Chris Hadfield is a treasure to be honest, everyone is.
I got to meet and speak with Chris a number of years ago. My daughter had hip surgery at CHLA and early one morning in walks Chris and a few others.
I looked at him and said "I know you". He introduced himself and with the title of Space shuttle commander, I introduced myself as an Aerospace worker and he immediately thanked me for working on an STS project that I was involved with at the time. Very nice man. Gave my daughter an autograph. Thanks Chris, was great to meet you.
Very cool story - i hope your daughter is well. 🙏
@@JR-zm2yu Thanks JR. My daughter is doing very well and her hip is in great condition!
@@Somethingisntright64 Awesome 🙏
@@Somethingisntright64 Ps you should ck out GreenGreg channel - Greg Alison - also worked on Sts & is still contracted w/NASA - He looks like an Einstein farmer now & is spot on imo.
Ya know? Chris. You’ve been a guiding star in my life since early high school.
I watch this interview when I have self doubt. It reminds me that no one knows what’s exactly going on. We’re all human. We’re all making mistakes. We’re all just pushing through it.
With enough pushing a break will arrive, and everything will be calm.
Brave the storm, and see the beauty of a smooth ocean.
Chris makes me very proud as a fellow Canadian. World Ambassador for sure.
I could listen to him for hours, such a humble & amazing human being with an understanding of the world
& himself, so relevant at the time in this world we are living, thank you Chris
"We're all students of the human condition". That's a good line. Gata remember that one.
We aren’t perfect ... that’s what I think that means
@@SimpleLifeAlways81 you are perfect, we are all perfect.
This was incredibly articulated. What an interesting person/.
The more you learn the less you know
I think being kind to each other is an important thing. After I’m gone what is remembered. Not just a “nice guy” but a good person
It's like he hasn't lost his enthusiasm for his job, for being an astronaut, his zest for life from his perspective. I wish everyone could be given the chance to feel that enthusiasm. I'd like to be blown away by awe like he has been.
Get to know the One, true, Living God Who created all this , and you will experience - awe. You will be in awe of Him, all He is, all He can do, and shall yet do. Find out His purpose for being here, at this time, where you live. He is truly the inspiration of awe.
. . . this is very inspirational, I appreciate the brave people like Chris who expand our universe while we sit and watch, and listen, and learn.
I would give almost anything to experience what Chris Hadfield has been able to experience, but I am thankful that he was chosen as an astronaut. He can so elegantly express and relay his experiences, verbally and through photography, so that the rest of us can begin to imagine what it is like to be in space.
"...Shared Understanding is what empowers us most." Wise words from Commander Chris Hadfield I.S.S.
@Adler Maybe listen to the video again. Additionally, a song comes to mind: 'What the world needs now is love'. Keep looking up.👍👍🙏
Once you start living a life of compassion for everyone and everything, life stops hurting so much. Have a good life, everyone.
That "sigh" at 7:58 as hes trying to explain what he saw says more than any words could. really happy he as a human being was able to live through and enjoy such an experience.
“Without anybody telling me what to think and without any filters in the way.” THAT right there is the most important sentence of this entire video. THAT right there is what we all need to aspire to. To think for ourselves. Impossible to truly achieve 100% but that is the ideal.
exactly.
Watch the video "why did sokrates hate democracy"
Might feel familiar as elections are all about charisma due to the simplicity in the minds of people
It's easier to live like an animal than being an intellectual
If you thought 100% for yourself youd be psychotic
In your opinion.
So you're saying people that constantly lie and/or repeat false information and conspiracies should just be left alone? Flat Earthers will tell you ALL of the footage captured of a CLEARLY spherical Earth during this man's career in space was FAKED. You think it's OK for people like that to pass along such ignorance and a willful disregard of facts to their children, and anyone who might listen to them?
Was lucky enough to hear him talk at our university about 5 years ago, such a great guy.
Good speech. Whoever is reading this it doesnot matter how bad your situation is don't give up. You are so close to a breakthrough and restoration of whatever you had lost.
do a flip
Wonderful person, smart. We as a society needs people like Chris to become leaders. Thank you so much from all of us.
I consider me so great full and lucky to receive so many truly interesting lessons here on you tube from people all over our planet. History, science, culture, and personal story’s... Thank you

Wow you are such a kind soul, I used to think youtube as addiction, you completely changed my view. Thanks for being here.
Love this man and I totally recommend his book ‘ An Astronaut’s guide to life on earth ‘ !
I've never heard Chris talk like this before - really nice thoughts. With astronauts always talking about their perspective change after having viewed the earth from afar I've wondered how different our world would be if everyone had the chance to see the full circle of earth. It's such a comforting picture, the earth, those bright blues, greens, and whites. It's strange to feel proud having earth as home. As if there were another option. Anyway, I'd bet good money we'd all get along a little better if we all had that opportunity.
True! I've always thought that if everyone was able to go up there and see how minute we stand in the universe, there would be less wars and violence. People would maybe use their combined energy to work on something unifying, greater and better for mankind.
I am sure it would be a better place then, and there wouldn‘t be flat earthers anymore
The smaller version of that is going on a trip, sleeping in a tent and hearing, seeing, observing, FEELING Nature. Might not be at the same level but it sure gives me every time this sense of being so insignificant. I truly think everyone should experience this at least once, but preferably regularly
That my friend is called "The Overview Effect". Many astronauts come back with much more love for the planet after their trip to space! I believe all of humanity should experience this. The world would be a different place I believe.
Chris Hadfield is a truly remarkable Canadian, and probably the most famous one today. His autobiography 'An Astronauts guide to life on earth' is a brilliant read. Canada has a lot to be proud of. Chris is one of them.
I gotta follow this guy on twitter, he's epic, need more of this perspective in my life, honestly
We are all struggling souls...
This was so very cool!
Not many people get to see the world from that point of view, must have been awe inspiring. Kind of man I could listen to for hours.
“If you give wind and sand enough time together, they create art”... keep going guys
You are my hero, Chris Hadfield. You have inspired me to look into the stars.
A shared understanding is what empowers us more than anything . Everything is grace.
Success is going from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm👍👍

Great comment my friend.Echoes the great values of stoicism.
Sounds like had a zen moment. It can take you 3 minutes or it can take you 30 years.
You can get it in the forest, you can get it in outer space.
What a wonderful experience when you feel interconnected with your environmental.
Many believe that the Earth, the planets, and the stars are living, conscious heavenly beings. Whether you do or not, this is our Home, and the Earth deserves our Respect. Excellent video!
ABDURRAHMAN SHAH Think of it metaphorically and it all comes together. You seem to believe too much in science. Good for you. So do I, but at least I understand where he comes from and more or less what he means.
When I was 20 I thought everyone else knew what they were doing. As I grew older I realized if Larry the Cable Guy could succeed that I could do better. Never limit yourself to others limitations. You can do better if you believe in yourself. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Wow what a nice human being, I’m so glad this popped up in my RUclips
Thanks a million and thanks for sharing your wisdom !!!!!
My takeaways from this lovely video:
*Every body you meet no matter how expensive they look or how rich they are, they are looking for significance, they are trying to do the best they can in life..
+We are all students of the human condition, the more people you meet the more you see what battles people are fighting.

Such a wonderful message that Chris delivers here! How to treat other people/ what he would say to his 20 year old self is just filled with so much wisdom.
Everyone should watch this video.
I truly believe that every single person on earth should get the glorious opportunity to go to space and behold planet earth at least one time in their life.
As they say struggle make you stronger and motivate you to accomplish you goal and dream even more. 💪👍
Thank you for sharing! I could listen to him all day long. You can tell he leaves his ego out and brings the best of him while speaking.
Thank you Col. Hadfield for your concise efforts to help connect us to visions and understandings of the conditions in which we all, here on earth are a part in. Remarkable. 👍😎
One of my favorite human being...Chris Hadfield ❤️
Uplifting words of wisdom. Just what we need right now.
"been around the world" gets a totally different meaning when Chris Hadfield says it
16 times a day going around the world in orbit :)
@Jules Maneki Neko not once has he went around the world. All lies to hide God from the people.

Mr. Hadfield truly has love/understanding and connection to this Earth/world - he appreciates/cherishes and honors the natural wonders of the Earth; not to take anything from it but to explore and share his knowledge/understanding & experiences with all. Thank you!
Just his genuine thankfulness tells you what a special person he is. This is a trait we should all aspire to have. It can hugely change the way you look at life. Humanity owes him more for his hard work and bravery to get there he chooses to be thankful.

Keep struggling. Keep going through your own battle. But we are all watching this video. We are wonderful 💙
I like eggs
Having said all that, as humans let's also remember the ever increasing struggle and suffering we inflict on all the life/nature around us, next time you see a stray cat or dog, know they are fighting to stay alive and yearn to be loved, lets care about the rivers and seas we so harshly pollute, the forests we hack down for our co consumption, before you about to crush and kill a bug, know they are just living and we happen to live where they do to, let's in short start respecting caring for everything around us, we forget we SHARE this beautiful planet, maybe covid-19 reminded us, are insignificant here in our lockdowns and fear, let's respect where we live or it will cease to respect us as a race, let's love and respect ALL life around us ❤
You put a lot together in a well thought statement.
👍❤️👍 It’s all about love, compassion and understanding.
Right on. Humans have a hard time being anything but a human---but there's a multiplicity of other living things on this same planet besides humans! Only if you were the only life form living on a deserted island would you then not have to care about other living things or the effects of your actions.
Aroha nui is maori for Big Love encompassing All, the people, the animals, the sea, the earth.

Much needed in Quarantine times - World needs more sympathy, empathy and grace.
Absolutely right. It's very seldom to hear this expression of hope and wishes and love for humans.
Great message for the young Chris, especially during these times!!!
I remember being interested in Chris Hadfield when he became a Canadian Astronaut so I decided to do a little researching on this man .
After reading and learning about his journey to become a Canadian Astronaut, it was quite apparent of how blessed this man was intellectually.
To summarize simply Chris Hadfield
He is basically an overachiever to the N-th degree. A man of complete brilliance and abilities that are frankly second to none. Just ask the boys at top gun:)
I regard him as one of the finest Canadians of all time.
Listening to this just amplifies this .
Well done ........ and well said

Thank you mr chris! You make me realise how every human being is worth in every aspect! Love u and respect!
I’m so glad I saw this post. I love taking photographs of places I find that touch you on a soul level. I can’t imagine what it would be like seeing that every day! Thank you.
I've somehow realized before that everyone is struggling. When I did realized it it changed my perspective. It makes me unable to judge enyone for anything and I've always been the peace maker. Never taking sides because everyone has their reasons and I want the conflict to be solved without someone being wrong. Because most likely they both did something wrong and someting right.
I've been judged on just one (positive) sentence and I can't understand how someone can judge someone's entire life by on sentence, one word, one event.
Were all species on this globe floating in space. We should try to understand each other. And give each other the benefit of the doubt.
Thank you.
Imagine how great our world would be if everyone shared this perspective
Well said, that's why i only reall feel comfortable when im alone.

I watch the ISS on ustream to relax. It’s beautiful. Listening to this wonderful human it is apparent that he is a true teacher.
We need more Canadians in space, Hadfield is a great person, as are most Canadians I have met or dealt with in my life.

Thank you Chris Hadfield for sharing your experience as an astronaut with all of us down on terafirma. Your story is not only compelling but very inspiring.
It's always amazing to listen such life experiences of these great pioneers who always inspire you to push yourself beyond ur limits
Yes- we all need significance.
We’ve come a long way since that movie -“Around the world in 80 days.” One couldn’t go into the stratosphere without coming back awestruck and poetic.
Is that about the fake moon landing?

My uncle is a 1 star general in us air force he married my mom sister.
My point is I come from good family and not trying to be a hater or be difficult.
But from what I have seen ....I honestly and respectfully am not convinced they landed and came back .
Don't hate me.

I was reading the news one day online, and saw an article/video about some astronaut talking about sleeping in space as an astronaut. Later that day, I still hadn't clicked it. Eventually, for whatever reason, I clicked it and watched the video. It was Chris Hadfield. Everything he said was amazing and right and enlightening and inspiring and just so good. Now, when I see his name, I Always click and listen.
"Sometimes we see things how we feel they ought to be; we ought to see things as they are."
Astronauts have such an amazing opportunity. If everyone had a chance to see this beauty from such a perspective, maybe we'd all have a little more humility. And maybe the world just might be a better place.
Maybe we'd have something far superior to worship than made up God's and focus on what really matters.

For someone who's been to space he's really Down to Earth
Mr.Hadfield is such a humble and down to earth person for someone who has achieved so much .
Best advice : Every single person you meet is struggling and fighting their own battle.
What a good kind soul he is, at least from every video I've ever seen of him. And he's lived enough life for 5 lifetimes. I wish to be half the person he is one day. And on a side note, I could really see him being an actor, just something about him, the look, the charisma etc etc.
Definitely, I,m sure like many others out there, I would love to see a biography (movie) of his life, family, career etc etc He reminds me of Burt Lancaster.
Miraculous! I’m so glad he had this amazing experience. It is moving to hear. I do wish I could do something so meaningful or all encompassing.

What a guy !!! It’s almost like he became a yogi from Himalayas. Wonderful sir . Have always respected you & the views you project .
You are an intelligent, wise and kind person Chris Hadfield.
In the first 1 minute and 22 seconds of the video, what he saids, hits me straight to my heart. That really impacted me at 42. Wish I thought the same at 24.
Yeah it's all about the individual nowadays... me, me, me. I'm no different and at 29 struggle with this idolization of the self. I'm ironically sort of torn between caring deeply and not caring at all. Bottom line we're ALL individuals with personal struggles, living and coexisting on this Earth. A big rock in space
