So the queens, princes and princesses used 5he side roads? Also Korean historical drama seems to get this architecture right. Any truth to the rumor that Avatar's pet was based on Korean myths. Appa is adorable btw

Indeed, everyone but the king used the n side paths. And many k-dramas are filmed on location in the real palaces, although there are also studio Complexes on which they've built historical buildings modeled on the originals. One can visit them and wander around while they are filming! I have been on site for multiple shows. 😅

@@travelswiththecontessa5307 how neat. I've just gotten into h8storical K-drama. It is just as interesting as their Chinese cousins.

Why is there so very little information about this place despite it being a world heritage site there’s no old information no photos no explanation as to how got to be the current shape

Thank you for the question! I feel your frustration. We have shared the information that we have been able to unearth over our years of exploring this Palace through guided tours and reading what we could find. To a certain extent, there seems to be a language barrier involved, with most of the in-depth information being published in Korean as far as I can tell. However we have recently purchased several books that provide at least more information about the lives of the royal families who lived Within These Walls and also to a certain extent the palaces themselves. My plan is to at some point publish another video with more of these fun and fascinating details. That all being said, the question as to why the Palaces are in their current shape can often be answered by damage and theft during the Japanese Colonial occupation and sometimes even during the Imjin War in the late 16th century. In general, these complexes are constructed to take advantage of the lay of the land based on geomantic principles, with cardinal direction alignment being very important.

Also, there is a limit to what can be included in a 20-minute video. 🙂
