Cool mandolin. What is the purpose of the wooden cover over the tailpiece? Is it just a fancy armrest? And the rubber grommets over the strings below the bridge?
Yes, bowlback mandolins, especially in the classical professional line, often are made with arm rests so that the player doesn’t feel discomfort with their forearm is resting over the corner for long periods of time. And the rubber grommets are called overtone grommets and reduce noise coming from the sympathetic vibrations of open strings when certain notes are played. Some mandolins produce more prominent overtones than others.
My favorite mandoline lesson in youtube! Thank you for sharing! Greetings from Latvia! Marko
Your calm is like your mandolin, it's like you and your mandolin has merged together as one!

You know you can slow down youtube videos right?
02:15: My transcript tells me that we call this interval "the semen" -- she says in German: "Dezimen", a tenth. So don't be too shocked. 😊
