Nah, hard disagree with Jaby on that scene work between Shiv and Tom. The distance was realistic, Achara’s correct coz he was tired… the execution’s perfect as is, so incredible, Matthew Macfayden sealed his award right there in that scene and I finally became Sarah Snook fan 😅.
Yeah Matthew Macfadyen was fantastic obviously and I see people praising him in the comments (as they should), but Sarah Snook was awesome in S4 as well and it would’ve been a massive snub if she hadn’t won an Emmy at all for any of the 4 seasons.
Re: her, sometimes I think people mistake disliking the character with the actor, when they should understand that it takes a ton of skill to elicit as much anger and vitriol from the audience as Shiv does (I would say she is the most hated character on the show among viewers), as well as that she is so believably cruel towards Tom that people end up feeling sympathy for him. I’m glad they each won Emmy’s from submitting this episode!
@@Saigeee333 100 percent ! I am an Aussie, so I do love me some Sarah Snook and they’re all majorly complex and flawed characters (which is desirable to have within any story). It’s just that I was always back and forth with being on Team Shiv bandwagon in the earlier seasons in terms of performance. As I mentioned in my original comment, this episode was what made go, “you show ‘em, girl”. Regarding the vitriol, it’s a huge compliment to be compared to Cersei imo 😅.
That was one of the most powerful scenes in the entire show. It's been built up for four seasons and we finally got it paid off. What did Jaby want, for Tom to hit her?

yeah that has to be one of the most confusing reactions ive seen in awhile, and it tends to happen quite often with Jaby in particular
can we also talk about how condescending he can be towards Achara? the way he dismisses her takes really bothers me, i like him but he does come off as an asshole at times
I have to disagree with Jaby about the "gap" during the argument because of the simple fact that there were people in the next room who could've easily been distracted if either Tom or Shiv had been very comical about their movements. that gap was very realistic. it's like whispering during arguments except that you're limiting your body language so that people won't notice.
The dinamic of the dialoge between Shiv and Tom was perfect based on what their characters were set up to be. She is refined, she doesn't need to be in anyone's face, what would be out of character, and would have totally made me rise an eyebrow. Tom, I would agree, it was not in his DNA. He would do that with someone he deems inferior, like Greg. Do it to Shiv? Ha! he doesn't have it in him to do it because he feels she is superior, he was never in control of that relationship, why would he suddenly get in her face screaming or being passive aggresive? nope, another massive eyebrow rising there if that happened.
Exactly. It seems Jaby doesn't get that these two stuck characters are not the types of have a fight where they get in each other's face. They both know how to throw vicious verbal insults that sting while keeping their distance. The fight scene works for this reason.
Jaby kinda disrespectful and childish here, it's giving black and white thinking, that iconic fight scene was the one of the best acting i ve seen, dynamic was fire, there is no rule like one of two opposite sides should be aggressive while arguing in order to deliver emotional earthquake, and i did not get why aggressive is masculine thing in exactly this context, u can be toxic and hurt people without aggression or masculinity

100% agree. The "one of them has to be the mascuiline..." comment rub someone the wrong way. Dude, you don't need to be violent to hurt people. Humans are an evolved species and what's boring is when someone justifies violence (specially in men) with the "it's in our DNA".

The condescension towards her is awkward to watch sometimes ngl. He barely let her talk. Maybe he doesn’t realize it but I’ve been on the receiving end of that sort of dynamic in “friendships” and it’s not fun thinking you have to walk on eggshells so the other person doesn’t criticize you constantly. Feels mean sometimes. Also how many times does he have to mention “he doesn’t have empathy for the characters” 💀
I don't know you guys, I don't feel like you properly enjoyed the BEST SCENE OF THIS SEASON.. fine maybe the 2nd best.

@@AK-pw3oq This after Tom has admitted his shallowness. ultimately, I am fine with the position Tom had the harsher burns. it was bad all around, but Tom getting a w is cool.
A scorpion wants to cross a river but cannot swim, so it asks a frog to carry it across. The frog hesitates, afraid that the scorpion might sting it, but the scorpion promises not to, pointing out that it would drown if it killed the frog in the middle of the river. The frog considers this argument sensible and agrees to transport the scorpion. Midway across the river, the scorpion stings the frog anyway, dooming them both. Achara is significantly more emotionally intelligent than Jaby. Jaby's reactions to a lot of things really frustrate me. Far too much confidence, for such little insight. Oh and Shiv is horrendous, and much worse than Tom. In the game of ''you did this to me'', ''well, you did this to me'', being willing to see someone you supposedly love go to prison is by far the worst thing either of them has done.
YES! The Lack he brings to these reactions is painfully obvious.
One of the worst things Tom did was to ask to marry Shiv in the hospital just because he realises Logan was about to die and there would be a massive power grab and he wanted to be part of the family anyhow before Logan dies. That right there tells me so much
All I know is I HATE when a reactor snips or humiliates their partner reactor, and I don't know why he blindsides Achara. Some episodes ago he was mocking her for weeping at a sad scene. In this video, she remarks that Tom's jokes don't land, and Jaby immediately, without dropping a beat, sneers "Yeah, like yours!". I like Jaby, don't get me wrong, but wtf? When a reactor does that, I can't concentrate on the reaction because I'm worried the other reactor is sitting there, insulted, hurt, embarrassed or inhibited and maybe can't concentrate on the show. Are they old friends from childhood or something? I could understand siblings or childhood friends talking that way. Maybe it goes both ways and I just haven't seen it, but all I know is the only joke that didn't "land" for me was him saying "Yeah, like yours" to her. PS: About five minutes later Achara actually made me laugh with something she said, I can't remember what, but now he's got me counting how many times Achara makes me laugh! That's not the desired effect of the video! Achara is a great reactor, a smart and sensitive reactor with a great sense of humor and always-excellent commentary I have always liked Jaby too, but these moments have definitely bummed me out. Brother! Free me of these feelings! :D

Jaby is so full of shit. And he's not even charming with it, he opens his mouth and most of the time I cringe. He should let Achara speak more if he wants the videos to improve.
The not so subtle jabs at her as well. I thought it was just me. Of course, I know nothing about these people. It can just be cringe at moments.
He can be so condescending and dismissive about Achara's well-reasoned points that it's irritating. She's far more emotionally intelligent and kind than he is.

again, don’t wanna jump to conclusions, it might be something that doesn’t bother Achara and there’s obviously more to their dynamic that we don’t know about but man is it fucking infuriating to watch, especially when Achara is the sweetest and most reasonable person in all of these reaction channels

That scene between Shiv and Tom is such a great scene and I can say both actors do phenomenal job this season
Is it just me or was Jaby more of an ass to Achara in this reaction than others? Or maybe I ignored it previously for the sake of these reactions. It just comes off ad “No , I’m still talking. No I’m right. No, we’re both right.” Like god damn, can you exist / speak in the in between ? Does everything have be a loud proclamation?

He was already great in past seasons but this one he went above and beyond. Got a well deserved Emmy.
Yes it was incredible. Several strong performances all around on this cast
big fan guys but this episode editing was not good, so much of importance was lost. hope it isn't with the next one cause that's one of the all time important one's in TV as well as its significance.
PS: if you think they had "just worked it out", then you got it all wrong. you are in a "very very very" small minority opinion

This might sound stupid but I find the zooms on their faces when they're not even reacting even more frustrating.
I still get goosebumps watching that fight with Shiv and Tom. You know all that resentment and hurt has been boiling under the surface and finally it all spills out without any sugarcoating and it's a great pay-off to all that unresolved tension. The acting and dialogue is just insanely brilliant.

Shiv has a need to be listened to in this case but Tom has been struggling and complaining for a while, though. She knows he's been complaining, but she doesn't care because she has her own stuff. Like we've seen since season 1. She puts his needs to the side and hits him with a "but MY problems " and expects him to care for her while not doing anything for him. The prison worries, his legacy, his career advancement....all of his worries. When do you ever remember her addressing his worries while she's had her own? He's tired of it.
i always thought they were fighting and trying to hold back (mostly failing) since they were still visible from the party happening on the other side of the glass doors lol

the balcony scene was perfect imo cause they dont care enough about each other to be enraged and get into each others bubble what you're talking about is true but it happens when there's atleast a pinch of love left in the relationship and heres it's not its so empty and I think thats what the entire scene was, an acknowledgement to that emptiness.
It is boring because both of them seek power and money from each other. Plus Shiv is pregnant and she sees Tom's capabilities of power-hungry turn into her own.

Wow I see Jaby is getting run over in the comments, and I know I left one, but I want balance all that with: 1.) total gratitude for your hard work 2.) love the channel, love you, also proud of your film. LOVING these Succession reactions, love the channel, love Jaby, Achara, love all the other reactors on the channel and the last thing we want is for you to not have fun doing these, or be inhibited from being yourselves on camera. And if that means moments that don't play well from time to time, that's the way it goes. These videos aren't rehearsed! I can't even imagine doing what you guys do. So thanks again for all the hard work, much love, much respect, if you were in NYC right now I'd buy you a drink, or roll you a doobie! Most of all looking forward to the next episode!
