    Poem Description / Inspiration
My poem talks about the concept of death and the superficial, materialistic choices of humans that are associated with death. I believe that death is inevitable to all and what really matters is the impact one leaves behind in this world.
    Poem Text
    Cherry, walnut, oak
    Mahogany to leave you broke
    Some come in floral
leaving one final mark as you go.
    Shiny, glistening, all-too-glamorous
the one to keep you company,
the one to hold near and dear
on this journey to set you free,
    customized with free delivery.
    Black, brown, white
pick and choose to match your skin,
    or pink,
    if you’re feeling Barbie.
The shiny, the polished, the intricate
a gold one would stand above them all.
    Recycled paper boards
when you have no choice at all.
A metal one, that can entrap your soul
or plastic to conceal a life of insincerity
Six feet under, off you go
    into the abyss where
the scent of oak does not linger
    the beauty of florals fades
and the sleekness of walnut disappears.
Just as you enter where the angels sing,
Not a care in the world for the vessel you came in
    But rather what lies within,
Entrapped deep in your heart and soul,
    how deeply you loved
and how you made them feel.
Where one chapter ends and another begins
And it is not always up to you
    how you choose to leave.
    Though the choice is yours
on how you to choose to live.
