It also keeps things fresh! I keep toys with small parts in a small basket too for bed playtime, I allow them to play with the small Lego toys and Polly’s on my bed so they don’t get lost.
Your video just showed up in my feed, I haven’t finished but I just wanted to say I love love LOVE the idea of the guess who I am around the dinner table! What a wonderful way to spend a meal times together. 😊
Thank you! My kids actually get sad when they have too many to open. They are young enough that they prefer to open one and play with it for a while then open the next. Any other similar gifts you can think of that I can put in the volt for next year?
Yes!! They are great. The same family who recommended heartwood to us told us about the growley series, so we are eagerly excited to try and find those. Do you have any book recommendations that are the same vibe as Heartwood?
@@OurMessyHouse Yes! I have a couple. The closest match is probably the Hotel Flamingo series. There are 4 of them I think and they have been a great hit in our house. Sophie Mouse books are also popular and of course the Brambly Hedge books. I’m sure you’re aware of them but for anyone who isn’t, they’re absolute classics now. Not chapter books but beautiful intricate illustrations and fairly text heavy so a satisfying read. Don’t know if those are any help ☺️
@@jackieoconnor4926 I have actually never heard of the brambly hedge books. Someone else recommended them this morning too! I am 100% going to have to put those on my garage sale and free library search list! Thank you! ❤
I enjoy seeing what other minimalist moms get their kids! Those books especially look fantastic. We decided to go 100% toy free with our gifts this year because the thought of adding one more toy to our house - when I'm trying so so hard to keep my kids from being overwhelmed by their toys - made me want to cry. The grandparents want suggestions, so I filled the kids Amazon wishlist with things like books, piggy banks, flutes, calendars, aprons, binoculars for bird watching etc. I feel the least stressed I ever have going into this Christmas. Minimalism is amazing!
Oh I totally understand! We decluttered so many toys last week before ordering Christmas gifts. I was shocked at how many we still had. mostly because I feel like I have decluttered them so many times. I agree books are the best gift! My kids read for hours a day if they are given the space to do so. So happy our book recommendations can be added to lists across the world. Do you have any book recommendations for us? We are always on the look out ;P I will be posting a Christmas prep video of us decluttering all the toys hopefully later this week. Keep up the good work! I know your kiddos will be grateful for the life you chosen for them. Have a stress free holiday!
@@OurMessyHouse I felt the same way when I saw our pile of toys to sort through recently - we are the most minimalist family out of anyone we know but it was still a shocking mountain! Oh my goodness there are too many book recommendations to narrow down! 😂. Some of our current favorites are Extra Yarn by Bennet, the Strega Nona books by DePaola, the Brambly Hedge collection and Mr Willoughby's Christmas tree 😁
@@victoria9663oh my goodness all of those books look great! I will have to add them to my look at garage sales and mini library lists! Have you seen the treehouse schoolhouse Christmas book list? The books are beautiful! You can watch all of them read online but we are working on purchasing because we love the culture and beauty of each one.
@@victoria9663 treehouseschoolhouse.com/ They have school studies and one of them is connected Christmas around the world. They gave the book list out for free. I think it’s still on there.
I love watching these sort of videos. We love charades. Just subscribed. I look forward to learning about how to minimalise. I really want to do it but it’s hard especially when the kids won’t let you throw away their stuff. lol. I also have a channel and would love to be friends and connect.
Thank you! Minimalism is challenging at first but in my experience as long as you respect everyones stuff they all come around eventually. I would say start with your stuff, the kitchen and shared items like bathroom items and decor. keep the kiddos involved. Minimalism in my opinion is a tool used for greater things, making room for time, slowness and figuring out the family dynamic in a different world than traditionally sold. I will have to check out your channel.
Yeah that's the case with some. My kids are grateful as we have created that environment around Christmas gifting their whole lives. Have a Merry Christmas!
@@marylaboy8855 I agree that kids should be allowed to have a beautiful childhood. I just don't believe for my family that Toys are the path to a beautiful childhood. I believe that imagination and outdoors opens far more doors for my kids to explore and create than a light up toy or iPad might. they also receive toys from lots of different sources which I talk about in my videos. But every family is different and that's the beauty of parenthood.
What are some of the gifts you got your kid for Christmas?
Consumables for sure!
Great ideas to keep so much of the toy frenzy out of our lives. Getting outdoors and imagination is so much better for kids!
Couldn't agree more!
Absolutely love the reminder of a basket for the overwhelming toy items for days I can manage the noise best!!
Oh yes! We have a noise basket for sure 🙌

Wow common sense gifts and not overwhelming amount. Great job!!
Thank you!
