- There were many red flags regarding Kyler Murray when he first left Oklahoma and before the Arizona Cardinals drafted him first overall.
Especially in this pre-draft interview with Dan Patrick that is now infamous.
FULL VIDEO: Kyler Murray is the Next Jay Cutler | Great QBs Who Are Bad Leaders in the NFL

He just proved you wrong he saw the hate he saw the trade rumors and the tank rumors and the doubt and he worked and worked and just won and carried the 1-7 cardinals to a win (with some help from prater)
Terrible take dude 😂 This guy is above and beyond anything Jay Cutler could ever be wym
Bruh Kyler is wildly different now. Any Cardinals fan knows he’s matured into a leader
This video is pretty old now, I'll definitely revisit it after this season
@@joericottone Even at the time of it coming out, he was already vastly different
@@Wrong_Hand_Drive No he wasn’t he is now far different from who he was when he entered the draft or played his rookie year
@@maxwellsimmons4325 Which one, exactly? The “not my job” quote where he was talking about playing within the scheme and sticking to the nature of the playcall? That one? Hopefully you aren’t just listening to the media and not referring to that out of context quote. Surely you can’t be that daft…
@@maxwellsimmons4325 So how does him saying “I’m playing within the plays that are called by the OC” immature exactly?
This is very misleading Kyler had not publicly decided between MLB and NFL at that point and dude was jokingly trying to trick him into giving it away
I understand, but the point is that he didn't answer it like a pro -- franchise QBs get thrown trash questions all the time, but the good ones can answer without answering, it minimizes the negative press and accusations
@@joericottone He was not an Nfl quarterback at this point. He signed a rookie MLB contract with the Oakland A's. Oakland was in the process of offering him more money to stay. Even though it was the worst kept secret the Cardinals were trying to not tip their hand who they drafting.
Kyler was more than likely told to not say anything by his agent, lawyer (if he had one), and the Cardinals.
@@joericottonebro, you need to grow up yourself.
@@lordtryforceThis guy a clown he obviously didn't do research before posting this vid.
@@joericottone Not even a cardinals fan, but this is a weird hill to die on, dude
He has character issues for not wanting to answer questions on a future he hasn’t fully decided on?💀💀
Its an excerpt from an 8 minute video that details more - regardless, do you see a great communicator or a franchise leader in that answer?
@@joericottone answering questions on the Dan Patrick show doesn’t determine how good of a leader or franchise qb you are. Cmon bro
No doubt, I’m not arguing that, in the full video (which you should check out) its a retrospective view on him as a leader as it relates to more serious issues like Patrick Peterson publicly outing him, K1 cussing out his head coach, the Cardinals leaking the contract info that indicated he had bad work ethic, and a bunch of other small things.
Believe me, I’m not basing the argument on this, it’s a complimentary piece that says “ there were some signs in the past the explains why he is the way he is in the current day”
Yeah but that’s kind of the issue when ur being drafted that means ur presenting yourself ur trying to make ur self as viable option for a nfl team, by being indifferent in an interview like this ur showing that u don’t care
He obviously has a rep for being immature don’t act like u don’t know where OP coming from
He didn’t want to answer because he didn’t really know yet he wanted to announce it on his time . He did plenty of interviews when he said “I don’t know yet “ y’all have to understand he was drafted 1st round 5th pick in baseball and 1st round 1st pick in football. He told them he didn’t want to answer that question before this interview that’s why he looked over at his agent when this man kept asking . Y’all just love to hate this dude
Its not hating on the guy, its hating on the behavior - there isn’t another starting QB in the league who would’ve acted like that. Even Lamar Jackson when he was being asked if there was a bias about teams questioning his ability as a passer, he kept it cool polite and diplomatic
@@joericottone that’s a different situation. They were asking kyler Murray about a life making decision and he wasn’t ready to answer yet . They caught him off guard a little bit . He said idk the first time and the man just kept asking basically trying to force him to answer
@@wwstn47Then don’t go on national radio shows if you aren’t prepared to answer basic questions 🤷🏾♂️
8th pick in MLB.
@@Druhhhhh9905 that’s not how it work 🤷🏾♂️ and you have the right to tell them you don’t want to answer a certain question before ANY interview.
He seems to have really grown since his injuries. Also i think he is just more of a introverted.
Bro is a prolific multi talented athlete at this age he was at, it's insane to think he SHOULD answer these questions.
@@PandaBrrrhaters gonna hate for clout.
@@fwu-finallywakingup6033 k1 back for the dub!
This only made me like him more. Great QB, just not a top 10. But that's impressive being that he's been gone almost this whole season.
Definitely strange
that's like the attitude college kids have at my job where we are making 20 dollars an hour lol.
Caleb Williams just did this still went #1
never seen a players image be trashed on over the most petty of things. Dan Patrick interviews, contract clauses, video games, lmfao.
Entitled…people who have had their ass kissed their whole life cuz the can perform a feat, athletic or otherwise, can easily end up being arrogant and indifferent. It’s our own fault for putting people on pedestals
this had me laughing my tail off😂
he probably has ADHD, people often get misunderstood. He is a smart guy, i Wouldn't look to far into it since you don't know for sure like that based off of this.
No he just a trashy human
No doubt, I’m relating it to the rest of the reports/opinions from his former teammates
Excuses may be fine at entry-level jobs. At his level, professionalism is a must.
He couldn’t speak on certain situations, that’s why he didn’t answer some of the questions… know the situation before you’re quick to judge.
You can answer a question without answering it - its what franchise QBs do, lashing out or crawling into your shell is a bad sign for the figure head of a multi billion dollar organization
@@joericottone Exactly this. There are ways to handle questions and even deflect where necessary, while still being sincere and direct. Instead, he rather disrespectfully treated Dan's questions as though they were ridiculous to ask. He seems very childish.
I think it’s hard for us to wrap our minds around a pro athlete being genuinely socially incompetent. He’s always had problems acting like a “normal” athlete/human being, I imagine it got a lot worse once he had a ton of money and people telling him what to do, what to watch out for, what to say what not to say, etc
Money magnifies!
I just seen him on 2k and I asked him the same question in the rec lobby. He just walked out lol
He still had a contract with the Oakland A's. He'd have to fork over millions back to Oakland if he announced his NFL intentions in a way that would dishonor the contract. He had to choose his words wisely. Research much?
You can choose your words wisely and not seem cold and standoffish. Im always stunned at how people can view that, and all his other moments where he acts like a non-franchise QB, and not see how he’s exactly what his coaches and teammates say he is
@@joericottoneExcept every coach and teammates say vice versa about Kyler. Media headlines and content is all you people look and care about. Nothing football related.
@@joericottoneAnd please don’t quote Patrick Peterson and Steve Keim as reliable sources, when the only thing they’re trying to do is stay relevant outside the lines since they’re a joke at their professions.
What's worse than the answer is his body language and posture. Dan Patrick is a very respected and experienced sports host and Kyler couldn't answer a normal question like a pro. I remembered cowherd grew concerned when he saw this before the draft. It's just not a good look for a person that is supposed to be a franchise QB and face of a franchise.
100% - glad someone understood this rationally
Why aren’t you taking into account that he had an opportunity for baseball as well that he had to still consider as well…This was a young man experiencing all of this for the first time of course he may not look that sharp in interviews in the beginning of this life changing process, gosh give the kid a break…As if we all have it figured out at the end of high school or college
I am taking it into account - it's all based on how he answered the question - cold and aloof - and it's a reflection of how his teammates have felt about him so far in his career
Baker was outed by a kid for playing over 14hrs of COD. Browns lost to the packers that week with 3ints
😂😂😂 what a weird ass thing to make a video on man. Y’all will see
Watch the full video it will seem less random
He’s just trying to ride the Kyler Murray hate train. Kid literally has no good reason to hate.
@@idgaf3231 ong. loved seeing him out there yesterday to get that dub.
That’s the beauty of life you get to mature and grow when adversity hits. Don’t count K1 out. This is going to age like milk.
I hope so!
Bro...horrible take
All the news coming out of AZ lately would say the contrary
@@joericottone share with me what news ? Because what I saw was Kyler getting ready to hopefully return by week 4-5, kid is 25 and you'll believe some rumors over a 200+ million extension???
@@joericottone if you are gonna base everything off his rookie season I don't know what to tell you, I've followed him during his NFL Career because he is exciting to watch and from the interviews I've seen from the past year he has matured a lot since then
@@shaunrobertson8833 watch the full video I made, not the 30 second one. Kyler is an amazing talent, but he's had issues connecting with people and it's why they'll likely move off of him if they can draft caleb williams. He's apathetic.
Larry Fitzgerald came out at a golf tournament a few weeks ago and signaled that he's made strides in terms with how he deals with other people,
"I’ve heard he’s really developing and building relationships with people in the building." - LG
But what happens when AZ is trash, will he hold it together? And doesn't the fact that he said that say something about how he has been unable or unwilling to lead and be emotionally mature?
Again, not saying it will never happen or that it isn't in the process of happening now, but his former teammates have had strong words about him and he hasn't acted like a leader worthy of his contract -- he's nothing like Jalen Hurts, Burrow, Mahomes, Allen in terms of his likability on a team and that matters.
This interview with Dan Patrick is a glimmer of that -- it's just immature
What did you want him to say then. If he says yes money is out of the window from oakland if he qanted to plau baseball. If he says no it severley hurts his chances at getting drafted in the nfl since he was already picked in the MLB if he says I dont know it pits into question whether or not he will commot to football or switch to baseball. So tell me what his answer should be
The answer doesn’t matter, it’s how he answers
@@joericottonethat question was dumb and a trap. If kyler doesn't know if he's going to the Combine, why would he know if he'll have a pro day. Patrick put words in kyler mouth by saying yeah while kyler is looking at his agent for answers.
@@Draggerrait doesn’t matter because at the end of the day Kyler answered so immaturely lol
I think yall forgetting he was drafted in da MLB around this time and wasn’t trying to show his hand
What is wrong with this guy. He asked a question so answer it. It seems like he is arrogant or has a problem with people.
he dosnt have to answer anyone if he dosnt feel like it, the fuck🙄
Its a layered issue haha
@@joericottoneHow about the reporter is fishing for him to tell him whether he's playing in the NFL or MLB? No one else has ever been drafted top 10 in both he still had to make a decision.
@@wyatthowe9234 Yeah, that's the reporters job.
How would Jalen Hurts, Tom Brady, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson have answered that question - would they silently sit there and shake their heads? Or would they work through it and find a way to answer without answering, like how a franchise QB needs to week in and week out as the figurehead of a multibillion dollar franchise?
@@joericottone As was said before he wasn't a franchise QB in this video. And no it's not the reporters job to try and finesse information that is most likely confidential due to financial reasons
Ooooor maybe at that time his people told him to not speak on that, and he wasn’t ready to answer that question.
See, now we’re both just making stuff up.
Ya but I made a video about it :)
@@joericottoneshit RUclipsr if you aren't doing research about the context of these vids.
@@wyatthowe9234 watch the full video to get context on the context. It's not about him not answering the question it's about how he goes about it and how an attitude like that turns people off and alienates teammates
I never looked his behavior or leadership attitude .
This was taken out of context. At the time of the draft people weren’t sure if Kyler was going to commit to the NFL or MLB so Dan Patrick asked baiting questions that insinuated he was going to the NFL, thats why Kyler hesitated to answer as he hadn’t publicly made his decision yet. But yes Kyler is awkward
No doubt, the larger point is the failure to communicate effectively, I appreciate the comment!
Guess you haven’t seen his recent post-game/practice conferences 😂
Omg!! Look at him now😮. 2-10. Money well spent 😲😊
This gotta be a troll, he’s been injured all year….
taken outta context to make him look lazy is wild. he was projected to go top 10 in both drafts so he couldn’t talk to he didn’t ruin his chances for either. still the only person ever to go top 10 in both so it worked out 🤷
Not trying to make him look lazy, the Cardinals did that when they leaked the video game clause
He just needs to get media trained. Marshawn was good but he wasnt great when it comes to this. Look at bellicheck when he answers questions you dont always have to seem so out going and positive even people that are good at answering and being in the spotlight have their moments. Maybe he considers dancing around the question as being fake so he answers as honestly as he could also give that you can say limited things about certain people or topics bc then it would be turning into some kind of tampering or whatever scandal. Im az cardinals fan and i wouldve honestly traded for rodgers but they did what they did. Im not unhappy as ive seen him do some great things its just not on a consistent basis as i or others would like it to be.
for sure, but it seems a little late for him. People really want to believe that people can change, and they can, but when you've had success doing things one way, you become cemented in your ways.
Look at Baker Mayfield, I made a video on him about his ego and people were arguing that he was different since leaving Cleveland and that he'd turn it around in Tampa.
Now what are we hearing? He's getting pissed with reporters when they ask about quarterback specific training etc. and he might not beat out Kyle Trask.
That's all to say that K1 is capable of change, but I doubt he will enough and fast enough to deter them from drafting Caleb Williams if they get the chance.
Thank you for watching!
Kyler is like: " tf,! my boys wanna play cod. Idc about football."
Y’all want him to capitulate and be fake. It’s stupid question? Here a stupid answer.
That’s a fantastic philosophy for life
He reminds of former Yankee, Ricky Henderson. If Kyler Murray went to the MLB, he wouldn't be injured and he might have made as much bank.
Kyler is not a quarterback, that’s number one. He’s a natural tailback/slot receiver. He’s 5’7 and 3/16 on his tippie toes and he cannot see over the offensive line. He’s clearly playing the wrong position and he’s a BUST.
I wouldn't go that far, he just need to mature
Bruh... This has to be the most moronic thing I've heard. Source on him being 5'7" 3/16
Had nothing to do with his attitude. During this time he was trying to decide whether he would play in MLB or NFL. There was pressure coming from both sides. A’s thought he would report to spring training after his final season but he started having second thoughts about baseball. He was being advised by his agent not to really go into detail about his future until his mind was completely made up.
He def is as Aloof as the Baseball players.
I see now
He is not a bad dude stop dissing on him
I'm not saying he's a bad guy at all and I will be revisiting this topic on my podcast on Friday! Check it out!
Bro you are weird for judging peoples whole character without even meeting them lol he is a great leader look at all the times he’s brought the cardinals back at the end of games he has a lot of heart he just doesn’t like to lose he’s not used to it stop going with whatever the mainstream opinion is and use your own head!
Are there many examples of Kyler being a poor communicator through his time in the NFL? Yes - was this a weird interaction? - yes - is it indicative of his character as a whole? - absolutely not. I’m pointing out that that is an uncharacteristic trait of a franchise QB aka the face of a multibillion dollar corporation.
Believe me, I think he’s grown a lot over the past season and he’s matured no doubt - this is and always will be a weird interview though and you can’t find another franchise QB in the league who would have handled the question that way
@@joericottone what’s wrong with being different he just doesn’t put on as big of an act as others do every qb1 acts the same way with kyler what you see is what you get he’s a great leader because he has a ton of heart and doesn’t like to lose. Of course he’s growing like I said he’s not used to this losing stuff he’ll learn how to handle it more the more he’s faced with it that’s life lol
Murray should have just went mlb. He doesn’t care about football enough.
Ohhh now I get it 😂😂
Nothing weird about this. You would understand where he's coming from if you were a top level athlete. Media is super weird
Oh are you a top level athlete?
haters gonna hate. kyler is a beast. sit down.
He’s not a beast as a whiny choker
Shit that's what he does on the sidelines!!
I’ve never liked him way too cocky to be a franchise leader 🤡🎪
