i mean its not a built motor just a different one but if i had to do it all again i would not. I wouldve 100% gone with an Evo X because they make more power stock block than an Evo 8/9 and handle the power better. The shop i go to has an Evo X making 709AWHP and the stock long block has like 100,000 miles. If you tried to replicate that with an 8/9 and it ACTUALLY LAST it would blow up forsure. The X is also much faster from a roll ive seen them spank cars making over 200-300whp more and they still give it the bus length gap
Dat Boosted Ute eh yes and no drag racing yes from a 40mph roll the X will rape that old iron block powered ass any day and run more mileage wise with less issues
I''m an original owner of a IX SE. I have two buying/tuning tips: 1. If you come across an Evo like the one in the video, don't buy it. This should seem obvious, but apparently it's not. 2. This is how you uncork the motor on a IX: boost control, a fuel pump, a turbo-back exhaust, and a tune. That's it, nothing more. It's around 400hp with zero drawbacks. Anytime that you deviate from this you will have problems. Like this car, and I'm ignoring the pure bullshit about the MAF and the drivetrain. There's no reason to run E85 at such a mild state of tune and there's even less reason to convert to SD. The huge injectors will never run like stock, regardless of the skill of the tuner, and SD essentially amounts to taking a guess. Why do this? BTW, the MAP sensor is used to read boost, not the MAF. This car has aftermarket 272 cams, even though it had 272 cams in stalled at the factory. This brings me to the second part of this - if you decide to build an Evo, you need to know the platform better than the people doing the work. Just as with the cams, you need to know what you have. Josh seems like a nice guy and I don't want to rag on him or on his car. Just keep in mind that this isn't how it's done.
Once again Josh excellent video for the Evolution community Always enjoy your content and I must say because of you I bought myself my 1st evo It was gonna be one like yours except silver it wasn't in the cards though so I end up getting a 2014 evolution 10 and I love this car to death I haven't looked back since I already owned it for 3 years and I recommend this car to anyone that loves to have a smile on their face Every time you drive the car It's that addicting. Keep up the good work can't wait to see the next video
You’d think Evo Community would have honest people when buying/selling but complete opposite got to watch out for sketchy people! When i bought my 8 I was lied to about so many things ended up replacing turbo & getting the head redone. Thumbs up 👍 from experience this video is a must watch before buying any evo. Evo = money pit 🤣
yeah man its weird like just tell someone what they are buying it really shouldnt be that hard to find a clean one but its very hard and very very expensive for unmolested one
The videos on RUclips are most certainly not representative of our community. The YT people are ricers and don't know much about the platform at all, but sure like to sound like they do. It's frustrating.
I can’t get enough of your black Evo, almost exactly what I had a few years ago. Now I have a final edition (with MR seats Recaros), but I still miss my IX. Think I need one of each generation.
@@davingarcia1369 Spoolinup has a SD harness you can plug info the MAF on the harness and run a AIT for SD. Just make sure you are getting tuned for it.
I’ve had 2 IX. One was a 2.3 striker shep trans and diffs. 768 awhp. My last one was a stock 2.0. Cams. Boltons. Pump fuel. 360/360 power and it was so fun. I miss the Evo but almost want a Subaru.
Basically just don't buy a Evo 8/9 or buy it assuming it's been heavily modified and cobbled back to "stock-ish". Does anyone still drive these cars in legit stock form?
Good video Josh, over here in UK the 8's have the ACD as standard & therefore the 3 lights on means a pump rebuild. Also with the fluid service I always think it's OTT that some people change Transmission, T Case & Diff oil every single year even with low miles. Can understand dropping the engine oil, but Trans & Diff oils should be good for longer. I use Redline MT85 in my 8, which is meant to be the same as the cocktail you speak of already mixed.
Josh another awesome video keep it up brother! I have a 2005 Evo VIII MR graphite gray with only 29k original miles. The brembo calipers are bright red still running the original brake pads. I bought it from the original owner back in 2008. My Evo was only used for car meets and weekend summer drives been garaged up never even been out in the rain. If I would decide to sell where would you recommend posting up to find a good home or maybe you could do a video on it?
Honestly if i were you i would hold onto it and let the value build up because if it is lightly modified or completely stock you can sell that car one day for easily $50k-$60k or more but if you are ready to part ways with it i would recommend trying to sell it on facebook, bringatrailer.com or i would post it on eBay and let people bid for it
Facts, however if you get the stock parts with the car. Sometimes having double of everything helps. Always keep in mind, if it’s not your first Evo you see it’s most likely a third or fourth. Some of these vehicles are becoming overpriced, specially in California. Good luck hunting 🤙
I always wanted a 9 due to the 4g63 but they’re so hard to find now and if you do find a good one the prices on them are ridiculous, the 10s are newer and aren’t so expensive most the time and for someone like me that’s only 20 and just started building my credit I can get one off the dealer and build my credit that way since I’m obviously not going to have all that money cash but I’m the future I for sure will get a 9 one day
