    I was diving into how to do packaging things like this (Not just a cheap clear plastic in a paper box). This is a neat method, with a great video documenting it!

    Looks good. You could add a small thumbnail so a user can pull the main unit out more easily without having to tip the casing.
    The machine looks like it’s $1.5k but not available in the UK. Can you suggest another and what do you like about it more than other vacuum forming machines? Is it the presets?
    Also, what was the felt “press” was that just the original mould cast?
    Thanks

    Looks great. I love Thermoforming. I also love the bullet buttons on the handheld, nice touch. Game over man, game over! Maybe we build a camp fire and sing some songs ... HAHAHA

    Have you considered doing any "Molded Pulp" for product packaging?

    • @DIYEngineering
      @DIYEngineering  2 года назад +2

      no, because it's not something I can do in the shop... or is it?!

      @@DIYEngineering It depends i guess! It isn't too crazy difficult in theory. One person even did it with FDM Prints, although that got more of the "McDonalds' Drink Holder" Surface Finish rather than the more modern method which almost makes a smooth surface (a sandwich shop near me has ones like this)
      All you need is something to make the paper mush (a blender, orbucket with a drill powered mixer thing, etc + paper waste or fresh uncoated white paper, water), then a mold for straining and/or pressing and/or heating it.
      I am unsure on what all you do for mold design, but it'd be a neat thing if you could pull it off
      I think i made a youtube playlist on this, i can grab the link
      (Going to post them below since sometimes RUclips deletes comments with links?)

    I really enjoyed the video and was wondering where I could buy the equipment to do what you demonstrated in your video. Is it possible to make a thermoformed PET felt hemisphere ?

    Hi, thanks for this great video! I would like to know that would it be possible to thermoforming directly from acrylic/ polyester felt fabric?

    Hi, I would like to know that would it be possible to vacuumforming directly from felt fabric? I mean acrylic/ polyester felt not wool felt?

    • @DIYEngineering
      @DIYEngineering  3 года назад

      Maybe, but the heating process may melt the felt, changing the physical properties

    Hi, just wanna know how come you demold it easily without draft angles on the outer walls? Any tips on demolding things like this? Thank you hope you notice me 🙏

      there are no undercuts on this which makes it easier and does not require drafts on verticals. also leaving vent holes in your forming buck can aid in removing the part. thickness of material has a lot to do with ease of part removal. thinner material is more flexible and easier to release. as well as the release compound you are using on your buck.

    Vaquform doesn't seem to have the machine. It's nowhere to be found on their website.

    'Making a simple housing with $10,000 of equipment'. Like my guy you did nothing here you 3d printed a simple shape, vacuum formed it on a $7,000 machine, laser cut things on a probably $1,500 laser cutter and didn't bother sanding or post-processing anything so it came out meh. 😂

      Please Price the 7K Machine and then get back to Us.
      If you are dumb enough to pay 7k for a 1k Machine, I would LOVE to sell one to you.
      Idiot.

    I hate to say it, but all that work and material for packaging is a waste, ethically and environmentally. Beautiful vacuum formed ahapes in felt & neoprene are great for custom seating and car interiors accessories but are thrown away as packaging; nobody keeps their fancy iPhone boxes, right?
