Watching on a m1 air and it's been a beast. It handles everything I throw at it without even getting hot. I got it on sale for $750 from best buy a year ago. I'm thinking about upgrading to the 15" air. The m1 air is such an amazing laptop, I really don't need anything else. It would just be to get the bigger display.
That would depend on your work and where you live. Over here the base M2 8GB / 512GB is RM5199. A gaming laptop with i5-12500H 64GB / 1TB & RTX3060 is RM5150. So if you're mostly tied to a laptop dock during work and need massive amounts of ram or storage then you're better off with the alternative, even if it's 1cm thicker or 200g heavier. Some would suggest a desktop but the last time an employer supplied me with a desktop was back in 2008. After that it's been Thinkpads or Macbooks all the way. Can't imagine lugging one around if I need to work from home or the company has hot-desking.

Update the ram to 16gb if you can and get a laptop cooling pad to avoid throttling. The 15” M2 MacBook Air is an amazing machine that will last for years.
The M2 Air 13" is as a convertible Benz, sleek, sporty but powerful enough for everyday uses; however, my 16" MacBook Pro M1 feels like a sedan, sporty but larger and somewhat clunky while handling it and certainly too heavy to carry around on a daily basis! I now love the M2 Air so much so that it literally replaced my ipad pro 12.9 and i hardly ever use the M1 pro MacBook!
I bought mine this summer and it's been great, the size is just enough for a school desk. Literally anything bigger wouldn't fit tiny school desk. But the worst part of mine would be the storage and ram. I got a used base model so it has 256 gigs of storage and 8 gigs of ram. Even with apps that I absolutely use all the time, I have to keep moving files to my external hard drive to free space and good now I've ran out of hard drives. Also I wouldn't recommend the 8gig ram to anyone. It's probably holding back the performance of the M2 chip. Other than that this is the most premium tech product I've ever owned and still I'm happy with it. I literally use mine every day and bring it everywhere. Probably not gonna upgrade to pro for at least 5 years or so. This thing will last unless physical damage is done.
I also have an aid gig ram MacBook Air, but it is an M1, and I was wondering that I should’ve bought the MacBook Pro. My work gets done, no questions ask, but I do not like small laptops and next machine would be a 16 inch MacBook Pro.
Apple might as well sell iPhone 4S's again considering they keep the 8 gb ram chips around. It's a travesty. I load a couple of tabs up, not running anything crazy, and my M1 pro with 16 gb of ram starts to whine lol
I went from my MacBook Air Intel 2020 to MacBook Air 15 inch 24gb ram & 256 SSD and it was absolute game changer and with it for me! I have iCloud+ and external hard drive for the storage and with the 24gb ram it will last me a long time and love how it’s lightweight even though it has a bigger screen. Note: for anyone that says “24gb ram is overkill” I use a gaming monitor and connect a lot of cables for Ethernet and HDD drive which goes up to 13-17gb ram in use and with No overload whatsoever and haven’t had it over heat not once! I freaking love it I don’t think I need to explain further of why I decided to go with 24gb ram RAM > Storage
Got the m2 air in starlight. 16gb and 1tb of storage and absolutely love it. I just use it for basic use but good to know it will have a bit of power if I ever wanted to get into video editing
Sure thing! Here's a more casual take on your experience: So, I've been rocking the M1 MacBook Air since early 2021, got the base model but splurged on 16GB of RAM. I'm mostly working from home, juggling Teams calls, chats, spreadsheets, emails, and a bunch of web-based stuff. Oh, and there's always some RUclips playing in the background with a couple of tabs open. It's perfect for your usual admin and manager tasks. I used to be all about Windows, had a Dell XPS and a Huawei Matebook, loved them. But ever since I got the M1, my Windows PC is collecting dust. This MacBook just works like a charm. Plus, the battery life is still impressive after three years. I can grab it and head to work without the charger, and even if it runs out, any mobile charger does the trick ( Thats nuts). My Windows laptops never pulled off that stunt. And you know what? If you're deep into the Apple ecosystem with iPhones and iPads, it just makes sense. My work provides those, so using a Mac completes the circle. Of course, if some apps don't jive with your workflow, no matter how fancy the Mac chips are, it won't cut it. It's all about finding what works for you. Funny enough, I used to be anti-Apple, but as I'm getting older, I'm starting to appreciate what they bring to the table. It's good to switch things up and explore. My M1 experience has been surprisingly positive!
Still viable? Since when laptops have 1-year lifetime? Just because the next model will come out does not mean the previous one that was only released about a year ago obsolete. All these tech RUclipsrs shorten lifetime of tech devices. They are cancer in consumer’s perspective of view.
I have both the MacBook Pro 13 M2 and the MacBook Air 13 M2. While they are both great laptops especially in terms of battery and speed, I prefer the Pro 13 with the Touch bar. The Touch Bar is so underrated and I find it very difficult to adjust browsing the web without a Touch Bar. It just feels weird using any laptop without the Touch Bar to me.
I purchased a MBA 15 inch and for me it's just the 99% perfect laptop. Slim, durable, beautiful (gold), perform amazing for coding, amazing screen, great speakers, great battery life, big size, magsafe, AND CHEAP. LOVELY! That 1% left its that its not promotion. But, This is just a sweet sweet laptop.
Thanks for sharing. Would you recommend it for Android / Java development? My 2015 MBP 15" fans run quite often, so I am unsure if a laptop without fans will do the task
maybe not, using android studio while doing other things feels a bit slow. I code javascript in vs code and for that its pretty fast, but anything involving a simulator like Xcode or android studio you can't push it freely like a pro. @@Eiseskälte
I always try to convince myself to buy the latest products but I suppressed my urge and bought the M2 Macbook air 13 inch 2 days after the M3 MacBook pro launch , i absolutely love it i am not returning it. I suggest everyone to get the 16gb ram model. I am a Computer Science Graduate student this is more than enough for me. Trust me if you don’t want to spend much money on the MacBook pro buy this M2 MacBook Air. If you can wait i suggest you to wait for M3 Macbook Air. ✌️
Just got a M2 15” 16gb/1T for about $200 cheaper than an M3 15” 8gb/256gb air. I would normally go the newer version but i aint paying $400+ for more ram/storage just for the M3
I bought a M2 MacBook Pro in 2022. I didn't need this extra performance but it fit into my budget and I assumed that from a longevity perspective I am buying a peace of mind for a couple of years.
Great review. I have an older MacBook Pro and use if for even less than you do. My next upgrade will be to the MacBook Air, especially listening to how you feel about it. The fingerprint thing doesn't bother me at all - after all, I'm not entering it in a beauty pageant. 🐬
Bro I have a feeling that you're hugely underselling this system. You're saying that you use it for slack, email, RUclips stuff? That's everything a phone does today. This gotta be doing more than a "slack machine"
Yeah, it’s a weird thing to downplay this machine when it can do so much more. Heck, I create and maintain my website, edit audio, research with multiple tabs, edit photos, Create flyers, Microsoft Word, and plenty of Zoom and little video editing here and there. If you want to do causal things like RUclips or reading email just buy an iPad or even a Chromebook.
Been holding out on purchasing because I thought M3 Air's were coming. I need a new Mac, since my 2015 Macbook Pro recently broke. I know I don't necessarily need all that the M3 Macbook Pro has to offer, but it also doesn't sit well with me purchasing a year and a half old M2 Air, even though it's still great. I feel like the M3 Pro is a better long-term investment, but what do you recommend? As you can tell, I hold on to my laptops for as long as possible. I'm not an editor, laptop gamer, etc.
I'm in the same boat. I have an early 2016 Macbook Air though. It is still working beautifully but I'm getting maxed out on my 156 GB storage. If I had increased storage size at the time of purchase, I would not need a new laptop for another few years. I just stream YT, Netflix, etc on this and browse a 1-3 windows with minimal email use so the Air is perfect for my needs.
There are RUclipsrs with the M1 Pro or M1 Max that tried the M3 Pro/Max variants and opted with the M1 versions because the difference is largely indistinguishable aside from the highest of workloads. You will not regret getting an M2 Air, even now, especially refurbished. I would strongly recommend 16 GB of RAM though, regardless of what you get.
I was in same boat. Decided to go with an M2 13” MBA 16/512 and have zero regrets. Fantastic machine. Even the screen is excellent, not as “bad” as youtube makes out.
@@thedownunderverse Great choice, that configuration will last you several years. The screen is a massive upgrade over the previous Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro, which is the target market.
Hi there. I plug in my laptop to an external monitor, uses MS Word (2 or 3 tabs opened at the same time), Apple note opened, Safari with at least 5 to 6 tab, and running Apple music for background music. You reckon it will make the M2 hot? I use Photoshop together with Illustrator occasionally too. I am considering to by this M2 for Christmas.
When the M1 Air came out I was using a newer Intel Macbook Pro at work for coding. The M1 Air surprisingly outperformed it even though it only had 8GB RAM compared to the 16GB on my pro. I've done 4K video editing, coding all kinds of things on my m1 and just upgraded to a 15 inch air M2..... i think they're plenty powerful for those purposes actually. 8GB == 16GB in the old world with these.
I’ve edited on my M2 Mac Air for over a year now. It’s perfectly wonderful for 1080p editing, especially with that ProRes accelerator. I have 16GB, but that was my only upgrade. My iPad is basically the reference monitor while I travel.
When I bought my MBA M2, I got it on sale for 849.00 from Best Buy as an Open Box. At the time, I was considering buying a Chromebook because everything I do is through the browser. However I was not completely sold on a Chromebook because honestly none of them had the design language I was looking for and the Specs I wanted made it just as expensive as full on Laptop. To this day I use my MBA M2 as a Chromebook, except I use Fire Fox browser. The Fire Fox browser is just much lighter in way of memory it uses compared to Chrome. Also the animations, when scrolling back or opening windows is cleaner and faster than on Chrome. Using the built in keyboard gestures through Fire Fox, is almost like a symphony with machine and software working together. I love my MBA M2 still to this day. The typing experience, access to Apple Arcade/GE Force Now, and the weight and design of the device makes it the machine that I was looking for.
Got my M2 15"about six weeks ago. I Iove it, but... If apple comes out with the 15" air M3 PLUS another 'C' port, I would consider trading up one last time. Not one or the other, but both, then prolly.
I don’t understand , you said that the iPad Pro is your main computer and in this video, you said that you’re using the MBA for most of your tasks, workflow. weird
the problem with base m series chip laptop is the artificial limitation Apple put on them. In other words, no dual external monitor support, no usb c port on both side. Other than that, it is good.

just got the base model 15” MBA m2 as well at Best Buy a few day ago for Christmas. It was on sale as well so I wanted to get a computer that was more on budget that my parents could afford. It’s worked well and I have no complaints. For basic everyday use like school work, music, and even running games it’s been working well. 8GB of ram working well for me, if they offered the ram upgrade tho I probably would’ve but that would basically only benefit me for gaming but i have a separate computer or consoles for that. And Best Buy was the only store having the computer on sale for 1k flat.

I freaking love it
I don’t think I need to explain further of why I decided to go with 24gb ram
RAM > Storage
Got the m2 air in starlight. 16gb and 1tb of storage and absolutely love it. I just use it for basic use but good to know it will have a bit of power if I ever wanted to get into video editing
Same here. I use it for a lot of spreadsheets and some game dev stuff. Works so well.
Sure thing! Here's a more casual take on your experience:
So, I've been rocking the M1 MacBook Air since early 2021, got the base model but splurged on 16GB of RAM.
I feel like they do it to push consumerism. The M1 from 2020 is still more than capable for majority of people.
It just feels weird using any laptop without the Touch Bar to me.
bro im using it rn, 2 days without charging. no heavy activity just slack and web app browser to work. crazy !!
I miss the light up logo.
can you post the wallpaper please
i am totally agree with you, bro. as "usual employee" that has high mobility, my M2 MBA13 with 16GB RAM 512GB SSD is more than enough.
Is enough with 8 GB Ram if you want to stream your screen (no games) with OBS?
1:55 Could’ve used a plastic razor blade or a plastic car trim removal tool to remove that stuff without damaging your laptop.
My iPad is basically the reference monitor while I travel.
firstttttt
I don’t understand , you said that the iPad Pro is your main computer and in this video, you said that you’re using the MBA for most of your tasks, workflow. weird
1000$ email machine 😁 im tempted to buy one of these but maaan its so overpriced for extra ram and storage
Points for your honesty about the chips in the paint of your Midnight Blue color
the problem with base m series chip laptop is the artificial limitation Apple put on them. In other words, no dual external monitor support, no usb c port on both side. Other than that, it is good.
Is this configuration adequate to run Parallels? Thanks
I just bought the Macbook Air M2 2022 for deal! i used my ipad pro m1 for trade in credit at best buy and got $600 credit. I used the credit to get the Macbook plus its on sale. Overall i paid less then $600 included apple care +.
M1 MacBook Air is the true king
Agreed, give the best performance while retaining good value.
I love my M2 midnight 13 inch My m2 do anything I need it to do .
Home work
Business
Editing
Y’all can have all that other stuff and I got an external drive so It suits me .
This machine EASILY edits 4k video and more! I edit all my photos and clients videos with no problem at all.
I’m thinking about getting a 512gb 13 inches wd 8gb ram. I am not a PROFESSIONAL who will do it for PRO things but use it for email Netflix YT and normal surfing. Will this be worth it?
You talk a lot and a lot of it is unecessary
MacBook as an email machine.... 😂😂😂😂
Hilarious since it can do far more than that but whatever.
Just added the M2 13 Air to the family as my out the door doing business device. Replacing my 12.9 iPad Pro in that capacity. Sweet little computer. On sale at Best Buy. Just hope I don't kick myself for getting the 8 GB. Did get the 512 GB hard drive. Mostly an email, Numbers, Pdf document and Safari machine.
U are definitely fine. 512gb is a good upgrade.
I'm waiting on mine. So excited. !!
just got the base model 15” MBA m2 as well at Best Buy a few day ago for Christmas.
@@pinkprintvenom You'll love it! Great little machine!
M1 or M2 air? 🤔
Both are good but M2 is lighter and a bit faster.
M2 with 512GB of SSD.
M2 at this point since it has gone down in price. But M1 is still capable of.
Glorified netbook is crazy! Works better than the more “top” of the line “pros”
