    Hi from Brazil! I noticed that organizing the backpack is as important as adjusting. I realized that it was the internal organization that caused me some problems. It's really good to keep an eye on it. Bye

    Waterproof overtrousers and gaiters in the big front stretchy pocket for quick access.
    Anker powerbank and other electrical in a dry bag near the centre back.
    Add a couple of carbine hooks on the outside loops to dry off wet socks et al whilst hiking to the next camp.
    Loads of flapjacks and cereal bars in the hip belt pockets too. 😀
    I love my Osprey water bladder to drink from. It’s very convenient but a real pain to refill later in the day. I have to unpack half the rucksack to get it back in.

      Sounds like you've got it nailed! Flapjacks are always a winner.

      I like to keep my electronics - which happen to be the heavier items in my pack - in a fanny pack to keep the weight out of the pack. HMG pack BTW.

    I always put my tent in the bottom zipped compartment then it's easy to get out without emptying your pack in bad weather also you can pack up in your tent then drop the tent and put it in the bottom while all your kit is inside your pack

    I always have a giggle at these people with these Osprey (and similar) packs when they have to cross bodies of water.. It only took a few instances of having to drag my load-out across rivers and lakes in the Army Reserve to know that once I finished up, I would never take a non-waterproof bag on my personal travels, considering the places I usually end up.. To answer your possible question as to what bag I use, it's the Caribbee Trident 2.0 32L waterproof bag, inside which I have luggage organisers so I don't have to pull the whole bag apart when I want something from the bottom of the bag.. I have also used it as a floatation device when the shitty small boat I was on in Thailand capsized. The people I was with who had bags like this one simply had to watch their electronic belongings get drenched, and/or watch them sink to the bottom of the ocean by the time the second boat arrived 5 minutes later to collect us..

    • @trekitt

      Fair point, but I think that the majority of end-users will never have to endure the kinds of terrain and conditions that you describe. Thanks for watching. Paul.

      Waterproof dry bags within a none waterproof bag is a good option. Fully waterproof bags suffer from not draining. Any water that gets in stays in.

    • @andrewmcgaha9629
      @andrewmcgaha9629 3 года назад +1

      Look up US ARMY TC 21-21. You can use a non waterproof Rucksack as a floatation device. How far are you travelling with this bag on your back? How is the load distribution? Does it have a frame? Giggle away, but seems like you are comparing apples and oranges.

    • @pseudocynic1
      @pseudocynic1 3 года назад +2

      Apples and oranges indeed. The Caribee Trident is a 32L day pack and far too small for the extended backpacking treks that the Osprey in the video is designed for. Waterproof pack materials like PVC fabrics are significantly heavier and weaker than the rip-stop nylon common to modern technical packs which is why almost nobody makes a completely waterproof backpack in larger sizes. Most nylon fabrics are coated for waterproofing anyway and though the entire pack will not be waterproof due to design features that create openings or seams, it's not particularly useful when dry sacks are readily available.

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  4 года назад

      One of these: www.trekitt.co.uk/facetresults.aspx?Term=Group%20shelter
      Essentially a little portable tarp/shelter which you can shelter in if the weather turns for the worse. Kind regards, Harry.

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  4 года назад

      It's not designed to replace a proper tent, it's primarily used a temporary shelter if you get into trouble. It can also be used to provide a dry place for meal breaks in adverse conditions. There are no poles - you pull the shelter over your head and tuck the waterproof seating panel underneath you when you sit down.

    You don't want the weight at the bottom of the L going out. It will be dragging you backwards the whole time. You actually want the L upside-down. Heavy stuff close to your back and on top. NOT on bottom.
