How did they makd this shows? Was actual games played in separate cabines, like in a quizz show or in laguage schools, so that players could commenting during the game? And this game was just a prop? If so, why weren't the stuntmen used (or vax statues)? *** I suddendly remembered short-lived series of tournament in Belgrade from 1987-1990, sponzored by some bank. Already adult Short was amongst the competitors (Ivanchuk, smoking in pauses, Nunn with his chocolate, Ljubojevic, Dolmatov etc.) Each night there was chess commentary on national TV after last news, around 23.30. In studio there was legendary Nikola Karaklajic as a co-host. Short wanted to be funny and explained boom of British chess (him, Mestel, Spilman, and others) with these words: "The credit belongs to Mrs. Thacher who were responsible for huge unemployment, so many people had time for chess..."
The games were genuinely played, and recorded. A couple of days later the players dubbed what they remembered of their thinking and feelings at the time, over the recordings and the result is what we see and hear. How the producer/editor reduced the maybe 5 hour per game recording to highlights this short, I don't know but I hope they consulted the players.
Oh, he would do that right in my time pressure... what a brat!
Best line in this series!
These games are and the commentaries are pure gold! Any chance of the earlier series as well?
These are the only series that are fully available on the public internet.
