    honestly, "chiefs character arc" is one of the most controversial parts of the 343 games. mainly because, in the bungie games, he didn't really have a character, and for good reason. you, were master chief. that's why he was designed with extremely minimal lines, only really one liners in good moments, or brief needed explanations or commands.
    halo 4, the biggest reason it was so ragged on ( other than essentially completely rewriting master chief), was because it was essentially call of duty, with a halo skin. 343 doesn't (even now) know how to make halo properly. infinite is their closest attempt, but holy fucking shit is it absolute trash story wise( no fault of the game designers, who got the combat closest to the originals yet), and completely broken multiplayer wise(in terms of operation. gameplay wise, it's their only "actual" halo game).
    overall, 343 lives up to the namesake of guilty spark. supposedly trying to help, but all they do is fuck you over. and when you tell that somethings a bad idea, they go balistic.

      Idk, I think making Chief more of an actual character was a good shout in the longrun. Halo 4 (to me) felt very in line with the directioni his character was being taken in in H3. I think they hit a good balance between Bungie's Chief and 343 in Infinite, although less gameplay dialogue would have been nice.
      I have no idea what crack MS was smoking when they decided to name the new Halo studio "343 Industries" tho. Imagine if Mario going forward was produced by Bowser Studios or something.

      @@crustbound yeah, that's why i said it's controversial, some people liked the change, some didn't. i personally didn't particularly mind it, though halo infinite is completely out of character for him, so that's lame.
      halo 4 chief atleast is close enough that it's an understandable path for him to go, yeah. halo infinite he randomly becomes some fucking emotional companion type, and we get the fucking banished of all people, from a side series most people have never even heard of.
      also, agreed, that's definitely close to what it's like. more like bowser jr even, not the big bad, just some middle bad haha

      @@Choryrth I gotta disagree. I think HI chief is a very natural evolution of the character seen in H4. He's still plenty badass but now has more of a heart and ability to emphasise with people after having got on the path to not suppressing his humanity

      @@crustbound eh, i think it's less of a continuation, and more of "let's turn left of the road ahead, instead of going forward". but, agree to disagree lol. either way, it's definitely the closest 343 got to "Halo" gameplay, sadly the story is extremely low quality (the character writing for chief is pretty good, even if i disagree in it's direction, and the "Weapon" is iffy, half good half bad. everyone else is just badly written. ), and the game is broken beyond belief.

    If infinite was halo 7, 343 wouldn't exist anymore.

  • @CM-jc7gk
    @CM-jc7gk 2 года назад +5

    The problem with the campaign of "Infinite" is that it doesn't really exist, narratively or in gameplay. If you haven't read any of the books (which obviously shouldn't be a pre-requisite but 343 doesn't understand that) the jump in literally *everything* since "Halo 5" makes zero sense, & isn't really explained in-game either, outside of a couple cutscenes towards the end of the game which still require reading the Halo Wiki to get background details.
    The gameplay features the most lifeless, boring "open world" in the history of open world video games where stranded Marines are dumber than any prior Halo game, & the Pilot is just a random guy. Which, I get it, part of the idea is to show that Master Chief will fight to the death for anybody, regardless of how important they may or may not be or even how recently Chief met them, but uhhhhh maybe give the player more reason to care. Revealing that the Pilot was just a random contractor who bailed on the UNSC once the Banished showed up, whose wife & daughter may or may not be dead, isn't a great way to get the player to give a shit. He's not anymore special than any Marine you save from a Banished outpost, but they're just empty-headed cannon fodder. The "storyline" is just fighting a handful of mini-bosses in copy-paste battles & arenas, until fighting & killing Escharum & then killing the Harbinger. There's no real momentum in the storyline & no real reason to care about where ever the story goes from here.

    343s story pulls a Disney Star Wars.
    The Covenant and Empire were destroyed, so to replace them we get:
    The Storm Covenant and Banished, AKA just Covenant but with different colors. And even as a lore nerd they felt bland.
    Halo 4 was an ok return for Chief.
    *WE DONT TALK ABOUT HALO 5*
    Halo Infinites story was just... as bland as toast.

      I agree for the most part. Like said in the video I love Halo 4 but it's biggest weakness is definitely the lack of context surrounding the Covenant. I think that Banished are super interesting tho. It's just a shame that outside of Escharum and Jega the Banished were basically a renamed Covenant down to designs and all

    • @CM-jc7gk
      @CM-jc7gk 2 года назад +2

      343 couldn't have at least added in some Marines as side-characters with their own small quests/cutscenes? Maybe when you release some Marines from Banished captivity, one of them tells you about some other UNSC soldiers you need to rescue from a nearby Banished outpost & why it's so important to do so. And later in the game you see some of those soldiers helping coordinate a UNSC fortified position or something.
      Throw in things like that just 2 or 3 times during the campaign instead of only giving you 1 civilian contractor who spends 80% of the game complaining. The world feels as empty by the end of the campaign as it does at the beginning, the only indication you've liberated anyone & started turning the tide against the Banished is because the game gives you a triumphant cutscene at the very end, meanwhile if you go back to a Banished outpost you had cleared, you're greeted with Brutes trying to blow you away again.

    Also, Halo Infinite can be reviewed in a simple statement:
    It is probably the best written halo game, but it doesn’t have a strong story
    But basically 343 has learned to nail Master Chief so SO well, and I also agree that Infinite feels like Halo 7
