I really enjoy your videos. Over 30 years ago, my husband and I were so much like you. We bought our first fixer upper right after we got married. We had less skill than you guys have, but we learned how to repair horse hair plaster, install heating, tile, redo kitchens and baths, refinish floors Etc. It was a journey - we lived in and flipped our first 2 houses (both build before 1900) - later we bough much newer homes. I worked outside of the home, building a career, while my husband buiLt our Homes - we are on Our 10th house. Some were new builds that we did cheap with A builder and then upgraded ourselves. Doing the work and seeing what you created is worth so much more than having a contractor do the work (… we have just hired out work as our kids were getting older). The journey is incredible - the equitY you build is amazing. Our kids are now off to college and STILL we love a home renovation project. Enjoy these crazy times - the memories are worth the suffering you feel now. Thank you!
Another great video. Your skill is so admirable. To break apart and redo your own home with your own effort is incredible. I’ve watched your lake house small bathroom Reno about 20 times now because it’s such quality and gives me a lot of ideas for my own upcoming basement bathroom reno. Amazing work
I think wood railing would match the style of the house the best. But if you do iron/metal railing, I think you should consider doing one that may be a little bit less 60's and more modern. :)
last scene was a perfect example of ending a video. It felt like I was with you at your house talking to you guys. Also every time you try to fit new piece of a drywall I feel nervous that it is not going to fit hahaha.
You guys are doing GREAT WORK... KEEP IT UP!! I am working on our 1906 Victorian in Texas. I still have to hang sheetrock through the entire home. I used to hand rock for a living.. so I do feel your pain.... but it is well worth it when you do it the right way.... keep on pushing.
I think I just realized after watching this video that I am addicted to this youtube channel and this series, LOOKING FORWARD FOR THE NEXT EPISODE !!!!
My wife and I are finishing our basement on our own soon and it’s been such a treat to watch you guys and your projects! We look forward to watching your videos on Saturdays (we actually started following around the time episode 2 came out). You’ve really bolstered our confidence to save tens of thousands by going DIY!
I hate hanging drywall! I weirdly enjoy the taping and mudding though. I agree with Bianca, metal for the stair rail, more simple..maybe horizontal bars? Something like HD's Fortress. It comes in vertical and horizontal. I've always enjoyed your kitchen designs (i.e. kitchen and bar area), excited for this one!
Loving how this project is coming along. You guys always look like you’re having so much fun despite the grind. Mad props to both of you on how far you’ve come. A design thought - toe kick lighting, but you might have that in the plan already. Also Stud Pack is doing a kitchen renovation right now as well and they are at the point where they installed kitchen cabinets- some seriously cool choices they made might provide some inspiration for you as well.
Thank you! We try to laugh through the pain of renovating 😅 We do really enjoy the process, even when progress is slow. And great idea on toe kick lighting. I’ll have to check out the Stud Pack video as well. Thanks!
I’m excited to see the design, I feel like long kitchens are harder to do and have enough storage so I’m curious how you work it out! As much as you want floors before the new year don’t feel bad to take some time off! We remodeled our house and it’s exhausting to work your day job and work on the project at night. Enjoy the holidays and come back ready and refreshed in the new year!
What about a modern pony wall instead of a railing? With very shallow storage for cookbooks and such? You could display them front facing to keep it narrow. Also, cuuuute nails!
@@GoldenKeyDesign if you need more storage, I would also consider doing a wall with a large opening between the dining room and TV room. Wall space will allow you to place storage furniture on both sides and will give the TV room a more cozy, less exposed feel. If you want a more open option, you could do a pony wall with a built in bookshelf on top that goes to the ceiling
Great chemistry both of you guys. I LOVE your videos and it has become part of my weekend routine. Now, can we have more wiggles scenes like 1:49, sorry (not sorry) I am saying what most of us are thinking.
Oh man, maybe it's because I'm both fat as heck and also physically disabled, but I hate those telescoping ladders! Gorilla makes some double-adjustable A-frame style ladders that work great on stairs, and I can't recommend them enough!
Wrought iron is really cool, but when I got a bid for a custom one it was . . . . $6500. Yours could be so simple that you get an off the shelf railing, or theoretically you could weld one yourself? but you'd have to send it out to get it powder coated.
loving this series, you two have a great on-camera dynamic! Grant: why didn't you just build out the (upper) stairwell wall so that you didn't have that ledge to deal with?
The most important person in construction is the SAFETY person. If anything happens to Grant you are there to summon aid for him. Don't ever forget that
@GoldenKeyDesign Most places have basic First Aid training which would be helpful. Bianca should do classes for that. She is very detail oriented so would do well
If I remember correctly you guys live in Illinois and I'm upset Minnesota has snow sticking to the ground and you guys still have crisp leaves with sun and no snow on your deck!!!! 😭 I'm jelly!!!!!
Small suggestion: change/drop the scene transition bell sound, I keep confusing it for iphone notifications 😅 love the videos btw, looking forward to this new series every week, I especially liked the end of this one, very cosy! Merry Christmas from Ireland ❤
Soooo I saw a new episode came out… screamed at my wife who was in the kitchen “therrreesss anotherrrr episode” love you guys! Got a couple of questions…. Why did yall not make the wall that goes downstairs flush? Also my wife and I are Filipino (I’m half, she’s full) is Bianca Filipina? Also is Grant half Asian? Random questions lol Also what state yall in?
Okay, I am a bit confused what love language is whose? I am glad to hear you two talk about the 5 love languages. Mine is word of affirmation. I also felt that you could have added an access door to go under the kitchen floor - where Grant was hiding for a moment - so that it gives y'all access to water lines, HVAC ducts, etc, for emergency repair and/or maintenance. Just a thought.
grant is miles better in front of the camera nowadays, and it's so fun watching the dynamic between both of you.

Glad you enjoy them! We really appreciate it 😊

Such patience and perseverance! Keep up the great work! GKD makes Saturday mornings fun!

You guys are great. Love the personality of Bianca and the banter between you both. Inspiring to do DIY in our home
We love Bianca… but that plant was NOT tipping over when you moved it 😂
She has an attachment to that plant 😂

Custom iron rail is way cooler than wood. Waaaay cooler.
We think so too, but it’s also more expensive
love love love y'all .. and the vibe.. I find myself laughing throughout and I NEED the laugh.. so thank you.. keep up the great work!
Thanks for taking us along
Nah that piece of drywall was totally Nevada on its side haha
Nevada was my guess too!
I love when I hop on youtube and there's a new Golden Key episode, turned my crappy day into a not so crappy day! Keep up the great work
We are so glad to hear that! It makes our day to know we can brighten yours!
Suggestion….Make a wall in front of the stairs that has a bookshelf with a hidden door to the stairs.
My wife and I are finishing our basement on our own soon and it’s been such a treat to watch you guys and your projects! Thank you for sharing! We can complete our renovations in solidarity 😂 Glad you found us and are enjoying the videos!
I love waking up on Saturday morning to a new video. Keep up the awesome content.
Glad to hear you enjoy the weekly uploads 😊

Honestly I like that railing! You guys should keep it. You can paint it to match the finish of your lights/pulls/faucet etc
Awesome video as always! Love from Sweden
Thank you! So cool to have viewers from other countries 🇸🇪
"Are you holding the ladder?", "Ya." *Boombastic side eye* lmao

Great work!
You guys are too good! 🥰
Thank you ☺️
Im not sure if you guys plan re-doing those stairs. But i think they are adorable. ❤
Congrats on hitting 150k subs!
Oklahoma? Looks more like Nevada to me! 😂
I can see it 😂 We also had a vote for West Virginia

That is a great idea - we could definitely use more storage! And thank you 💅

Bianca (sp?). Is my kinda gal! She said I’ll move it next time!!! Hahahahha. You crack me up!!
Lol this channel always makes me laugh 😂
Looking good ❤
10:27 "What about when we install children?" 😂
Really been enjoying these videos! Also from the Chicago burbs and also a local track guy (noticed your wall art and e46)
I just discovered your channel and love it. You two are fun to watch, keep up the awesome work and awesome videos :)
You guys are doing a great job. I’m going to be doing my kitchen on my own soon
Thanks so much! Good luck with your project 😊
So get a glass railing put there then you can see through it and it looks open, but it’s not. It’s still safe.
Maybe go metal railing with glass, so there's still an open feel.
I was thinking Idaho for the drywall. lol
Great chemistry both of you guys. I LOVE your videos and it has become part of my weekend routine.
Now, can we have more wiggles scenes like 1:49, sorry (not sorry) I am saying what most of us are thinking.
Great job
I think it is entertaining watching people do this when they are not professionals.

Very good point! I think Bianca is CPR certified 😅
@GoldenKeyDesign Most places have basic First Aid training which would be helpful. Bianca should do classes for that. She is very detail oriented so would do well
I understood that reference 9:44
I knew someone would haha!
Puppers!
In my opinion, you could have packed out that stair wall to make it a flat wall and eliminated the need for the extra corner bead.
If I remember correctly you guys live in Illinois and I'm upset Minnesota has snow sticking to the ground and you guys still have crisp leaves with sun and no snow on your deck!!!! 😭 I'm jelly!!!!!
Yep, we’re just outside Chicago! It hasn’t snowed much but it’s absolutely freezing here 🥶 Maple has been loving the cold temps
Yall definitely need a scaffold 😅
Did not know it was a ASMR video i clicked into😂
Looks like Nevada on 90
Small suggestion: change/drop the scene transition bell sound, I keep confusing it for iphone notifications 😅 love the videos btw, looking forward to this new series every week, I especially liked the end of this one, very cosy! Merry Christmas from Ireland ❤
Where’s that cool ladder from??
13:14 thank god the ladder didn’t break!! 😮
Right?!
Not to forget 12:27. 😬 The ladder is so close to the abyss... Safety first and also second and third: Lets you keep the fun. 🦺👍
Lifehacks..just put a temporary screw underneath the dry wall so that you dont need to raised it up
drywall obvi West Virginia
Obviously 🙄 or backwards Oklahoma 😂
When you're scared go and increase his insurance
😂

You need to purchase a better ladder - those cheap expandable ones like you have are dangerous.
Hi, I think my earlier comment was not published for some reason. I hope you would check it out if its pending approval
I don’t see anything pending approval. Try commenting it again and thanks for watching 😊
Please, stop using that ding that is the same as the imessage notification, please, please, please! :)
