He mentioned at one time a 200 dollar cigar. I love a good cigar but, there is no cigar I would pay 200 dollars for. I've had many good smokes all less than 20 dollars.
I was talking with my local shop owner yesterday about this very subject. He was speaking of sticks costing $2000.00 to $4000.00 a stick. I never asked for the brands as I knew they would be of any use to me. I can't imagine spending that kind of cash for a good smoke or, how much better could it possibly be at those prices. I will stick with my very enjoyable budget.
Frankly, if you know what you’re doing, you can pick out a $5 that smokes like a $15-$20 cigar. The only reason you should pay $40 for a cigar is for a special occasion.

Great review guys! I just lit a Padron smoked it as you guys stated, ended up with a great different experience!!! That 45 seconds to a minute and 4 to 5 second draw opened up a whole new experience.
I'm more of a pipe guy than a cigar guy, but I do enjoy a good stick every now and then. They're very different, but some things are similar. You don't inhale either of them. They're both for flavor. The way you draw out those flavors is first of all keep your palate moist. Drink water BEFORE you light up AND while you're smoking. Second, when you draw the smoke in swish it around in your mouth for a second or two before you blow the smoke back out. Another way to draw flavors out is retrohale, draw the smoke into your mouth and blow it out through your nose. This activates your olfactory senses which bring out completely different flavors. Pipes and cigars are a completely different world that most people are very clueless about.
Oh, just an FYI if you monetized this video there’s a chance RUclips will demonetize it. A lot of pipe and cigar channels have been dealing with it this year. They’re trying to crack down on tobacco. Not bad for a 101! Except when relighting your cigar, one have three choices: 1- give it up and let go (especially when closing on the last third) . 2- if it is still hot and ashes on it, do not worry hit the periphery of your cigar' ash with your torch and the cigar will kick off again (the bitterness comes from the charred tobacco NOT from the ash) OR, 3- (if your cigar turned cold), cut few millimeters down from the burn line and relight as if a new stick . My father was a cigar smoker. I had a Romeo Y Julieta Reserva Real Casino 1 last week that I had kept for the past three years for a occasion to celebrate, reminded me of my father and felt like the boss smoking it. Now trying to get another.
My grandfather smoked a cigar a day since he was 17 and he passed away at 92. I have yet to believe that a cigar is bad for health. Like Pierre said, “no chemicals or additives just pure tobacco.”
So far this is the best how-to video imo. If I may add some suggestions for viewers? My smoking ritual is as follows: Carefully remove cigar from wrapper (don't crumple it but flatten before discarding)and examine closely then smell the foot and barrel for prelight aromas. I have a little plain tea/votive candle lit then use the paper thin sheet of cedar that are inside cigar boxes. I use scissors to cut length-wise strips about 1/4 inch wide. It should take about 3 or 4 to light a cigar. Light the strips using the candle flame and toast the cigar foot while turning cigar. Blow on cherry in-between lighting until entire foot is ignited. Put out candle flame. Now its time to cut the cigar. I prefer the double blade guillotine cutter as it fully opens the draw.. The reason for waiting is that when you light after cutting in theory the first smoke can be drawn through drafting effect and you want the barrel free of any harsh flavors. Don't draw first but purge by puffing out the first smoke then if the cigar was well rolled you should just have to sip it only. Before each drag, blow out barrel first then draw. Leave the band on until the cherry is close, then you can peel it off to smoke to the nub. The warmth from the cherry softens the glue. If a hole or tear happens on the wrapper you can seal it up with a dab of plain chapstick. Yes it works! Also if your into trying this you can dip the cap into honey and it acts like a smoke filter. Really works! This technique is done in Cuba. I find that sipping room temp single malt Islay Scotch Whiskey goes great with a cigar because the two are smokey. Enjoy!
Coming from Scotland I’m a huge whisky fan, Lagavulin is my go to, but got some really special bottles, and some I set aside as an investment. I’ve always felt a cigar is the perfect accompaniment for whisky but have never actually tried it, so it’s my new project to start appreciating cigars and exploring combinations of cigars and whisky’s. As a complete novice, I’m so glad I watched this video and have some idea of where to properly start. Thanks guys, keep up the good work.
If you have a local shop stop in and talk with them. There are vast numbers of flavors and I can pretty much promise you that your local or any shop for that matter will answer you the way this guy did. As to a beginning cigar that's a tough question. What I enjoy you may not like at all. Set yourself a budget of how much you are willing to spend to get started and talk with someone at a local shop. Most offer variety packs just for beginners. Not knowing does not make you stupid at all. Not asking a question you truly do not know the answer to would be stupid. Without asking you could easily spend from 10 up to 60 dollars or more trying to find out on your own. I've smoked 30 plus years and I still ask questions in my local shop. Best of luck.
I recommend starting with a Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure 2. It’s a great light bodied cigar with lovely flavours, and loved by both newcomers to the hobby, as well as seasoned smokers of many decades. It was the first cigar that made me love cigar smoking- everything I’d had prior was much too strong/full-bodied for a newb like me.

Some of my best times have been shared with or through CIGARS. I tell people, I don't smoke CIGARS I reflect with them. I calculate moves with them. I vibe with them....
Great job gentlemen.
You do smoke cigars quit lying to yourself

This is my second time watching this video fron the past 2 months. In I have never been so please to just listen to the elegance and proper way to smoke a cigar in be relaxed about doing it. Now I haven't gotten to the point of having a cigar being at a lounge yet due to work, but I will someday.
Recently I started smoking cigars, and these kind of videos helped a lot to truly enjoying them
Not bad for a 101! Except when relighting your cigar, one have three choices:
1- give it up and let go (especially when closing on the last third) .
2- if it is still hot and ashes on it, do not worry hit the periphery of your cigar' ash with your torch and the cigar will kick off again (the bitterness comes from the charred tobacco NOT from the ash) OR,
3- (if your cigar turned cold), cut few millimeters down from the burn line and relight as if a new stick . LOS OSOS
You can just feel the soft rythmic ticking of the grandfather clock and the gentle creaking of the polished oak floorboards as Jeeves slowly walks in polished black leather brogues with a smooth 12 year old vsop brandy

This was very informative!
As someone who adores the smell of cigars & pipe tobacco but is asthmatic, it was surprising to learn that smoking a cigar doesn’t actually entail bringing the smoke into your lungs!
I might have to visit the local shop/lounge & indulge occasionally, after all.
I’m asthmatic as well, it doesn’t effect me that much if anything at all.
I started smoking cigars on my 21st birthday, and from my first cigar to my now third using this video actually helped. I was smoking a W & D Robusto cigar learning as I watched the video to get the best cigar experience possible
I’m sitting on my patio having a cigar as I’m watching this. Good video, thanks for info.

Ive found the best way to keep the cigar cool in the final third is to keep it ashed keeps the flavors good and the tobacco cool
Good to know!
Thank you gents for this. I am new to this pastime and wondered why I’d sometimes get a bad taste. Also I never really finish my sticks so the relighting part was very helpful! Thank you again.
It happens
This is one of our favorite videos you have. It is so important to know how to properly smoke a cigar to get the maximum flavor.
I love a good cigar about once a week. It's some of the sweetest times I have in prayer with God.
I just had a Padron 2000 last night with my brother and as always, it's some of the best times I have where we just talk and relax.
And sorry I can get heated in your comment section...I just can't stand the ignorance lol I gotta calm down
Appreciate it brother!
@V P agreed, it being cuban doesn't always mean it's the best.

Thanks George (and Pierre) for making another cigar tutorial!
Great video. I am a starting cigar smoker and always liked the casual atmosphere and conversation that it entails. I want to start doing this with my wife on the back deck of our house. Next I am looking for a good whiskey cigar combo video.
My go to pairings are: Four Roses Small Batch, Blanton's, Zacapa 23 rum, or Brenne Single malt (if you like sweeter)
Thanks gentlemen. Newbie here, and this video really helped
It’s important to be passionate and have standards. Cigar etiquette is an exceptional exercise in such.

Definitely loving the reviews and tips here from properly lighting and smoking my cigars! They helped me with some seriously bad habits, and with some issues with canoeing and over lighting! Awesome blue suit and keep up with the videos, definitely helped elevate my already great smoking sessions!
And that's who I call an expert!
My father was a cigar smoker. I had a Romeo Y Julieta Reserva Real Casino 1 last week that I had kept for the past three years for a occasion to celebrate, reminded me of my father and felt like the boss smoking it. Now trying to get another.
A perfect explanation. Looks like, you guys are talking about my first-time horrible mistakes. lol

@@masterofpuppets5072 woah.
My grandfather smoked a cigar a day since he was 17 and he passed away at 92. I have yet to believe that a cigar is bad for health. Like Pierre said, “no chemicals or additives just pure tobacco.”
He probably could have lived till 120 lol
Great info. I've been smoking cigars for a little over a year and saw my bad habits addressed in this video. Good stuff. Thank you.

Why in the heck is this video age restricted? Perfectly appropriate and educational video about a non-destructive hobby. RUclips is insane
Chris Loomis Tell that to Rush Limbaugh. It’s a vice, sure. But you can’t complain about lung cancer.

A few weeks ago I went to Mona's lounge to hang out with my uncle and dad it was my first time smoking an actual cigar it felt really good
I have always hated smoking cigars and now I know why. I can't wait to try again.
Damn I’ve always thought that cigars were naturally bitter. But it was just my rhythm.
I used to smoke too fast and get that ammonia taste. I think every novice makes this mistake at least a few times.
Maybe lower your humidity, buy better authentic cigars & or age them for a few weeks or months
Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks guys
This might sound like a dumb question but does different cigars have diffrent taste? And what branf is good for begining??

@@southport65 Good choice.

Smoked my first cigar today. Used to cigarettes. I inhaled. Wasn’t a good time. Got a huge migraine now
Edit: damn thanks for the love. This is the most popular comment I’ve ever made
Yeah there's a ton more nicotine in cigars as it's pure tobacco. I inhale on accident from time to time and its terrible.
U don't inhale cigar. And I rather have my pack of cigarettes, cigar can't replace it for me... U can say m not a cigar person..
@@pongnakalohan887 if you don't inhale, what's the point of smoking? I tried cigars with my friends occasionally and we thought you have to inhale like teeny-tiny bits. It's a weird experience especially with something like wallmart cigars. Still wanna take a cigarette in the middle and after.
@@smashexentertainment676 that's exactly my point. Why would someone smoke cigar if they can't inhale it? This is why I rather smoke cigarettes. BTW that comment is about 1 week old.. I recently quit smoking ever since I joined gym...

I've always noticed that cigar smokers don't inhale the smoke like folks would a cigarette or joint, blunt.

I’m a 65 yr young girl. First year retired teacher. Recently, I had a craving for a cigar. I’m not a smoker so I’m not sure why I had the craving. I’ve discovered there is a lot to learn. A few puffs are delicious with my evening beer. It is amazing how relaxing this is. Thank you for this information 😘
Interesting. I'm a 50 year-old woman and am having a strong craving for a cigar. I've never smoked before either. It's weird. I feel like I have to have one. I'm looking forward to my first one. It'll be very weird for me walking into a cigar shop and buying one for the first time.
Goes great with a shot of bourbon as well!!

Very informative video, I dig it. Couple questions: do these rules also apply for miniature cigars like Havana Honeys or Backwoods Honeyberrys? And what're your prefered methods for lighting the cherry - would stick matches preserve the flavor better than a lighter would?
Treat lighting and smoking every cigar the same. And using a butane lighter is fine. Don't use a petrol or oil lighter.
Me here knowing I’m not smoking a cigar anytime soon
