- Austrian Ducat very popular gold coin whose origin dates back to early 16th century, but is still minted by one of the most reputable mints in the world and is sold around the globe like hot donuts.
With the current weight and purity, Austrian Ducat has been minted since 1511. Ducats from previous centuries bore images of old Austrian monarchs.
The first ducat with the image of the Emperor Franz Joseph was minted and put into circulation in 1852, four years after his assension to the Austrian throne.
Thus contemporary Austrian Ducats look exactly the same as ducats minted in 1915.
How can one discern whether an Austrian Ducat is real or not real? Counterfeit ducats are typically produced of base metals which greatly differ from gold in their physical properties. Thus, coins that aren't genuine are either heavier or lighter than the original. Or they are either larger or smaller in diameter or thickness. So, the first precaution is to measure the coin with a caliper and check it's weight with a weighing scale. If a specimen has expected measures, it is almost certainly genuine.
Just bought a 1915 online. Cant wait to see it in person.
I own a 1915 2 ducat. I think it is a beautiful coin. My father was from Austria. 😍❤
Awesome and very detailed video! Thank you! 😎✨🤘
Very enjoyable and informative video. Thank you for your in depth lesson of the Ducat.
I bought one just a few weeks ago, these are so beautiful, I wish I could afford more than one though XD.
What was the price and weight?
Loved the video and thanks.

muito linda essa moeda tenho uma
Hmmmm......seems the restrike Ducat has a small premium attached to its intrinsic gold value....maybe an additional 8% (+/-).....no ?
Thank you for this interesting video
Your commentary caused me to take a closer look at my ducat after you advised that the eagle held a sword and a scepter. I knew that the eagle held a sword in its right talon and and an orb in its left talon. (reverse from the perspective of the observer) I thought, which of us is right? So I took out my loupe and lo, we were both right. I had been unaware that the eagle held both a sword and a scepter in its right claw. So thank you, go raibh maith agat, danke, spaciba and köszönöm for this bit of detail. best regards, Frank
I might have found one of these, (whether it’s real or not) it was my Grandma Smiths and it’s meant to be worn as a pendant. It’s held in a ring thingy and it’s not super heavy, but it also doesnt feel as light as a fake one. Someone help!
Informative, thanks for posting.
My dog ate my 4 ducat I had to pawn it in for gold weight 😂😂❤
What is my coin of Franz. Jos 1904 real or fake please correct I will send thefhotos
The best video I've found on these ducats for someone as interested in them as I am. I'm from that region of countries where these ducats are very popular, and after them the next most popular is the Vienna Philharmonic gold coin, but the Franz Joseph gold coin is simply more beautiful to me😊🤩 Although I first bought a gold coin of the Vienna Philharmonic, but now after a lot of thinking and research, I still want to stack franc ducats⚱️😁😎
Mmm...hot doughnuts.
I have one 1853 for sale
Hi, first of all i want to thank you sir for this very educational and proffesional video about austrian Ducats. I just bought 2 coins of 4 ducats form the same seller but in diffrent day and i saw a diffrence between those two coins. One have 13.960g on scale and the other have 13.945g and also the lightier one shine more ( look newer) that the one how is heavier. Thicknes and diamenter seems the same. Do you think one of those is fake? Many thanks .
About the weight (i dont know), but for the colour i have seen many videos where the colour of the 4 ducat was near silver! i think it has to do with the year the coin was minted at.
@@thelucky2133 Thank you .

I have a 1906 coin.
For sale
I have 1904 what doesn't mean
Che prezzo ha?
Hi, since few days I am a happy owner of 4 Ducat coin. On the side with Franc Ios on the mirror finished background there are visible wings (tips of the feathers) of the eagle from the other side of coin. Is it on all coins like this?
I don’t own one, but in my opinion the 4 ducat is so thin and the minting pressure to get the proof details being so high it could be an error by the mint. However I have never heard of this happening so I would inspect your coin to make sure it is not a fake.
Preciso em português tenho essa mieda
Many Thanks for you
I have coin like this the same face but another words
"aedallion"
Terima kasih atas videonya.
Saya memiliki gold coin 1 ducat.
Saya membutuhkan uang untuk biaya hidup.
Pertanyaan saya...
1. Kepada siapa saya bisa menjualnya...??
2. Berapa harga jual untuk 1 ducat.
Terimakasih
Gostaria realmente saber sobre ela mas não tenho ideia do que ele está falando
the measurements and purity stated do not match.. specific gravity is
weight/volume
measured against one cubic centimeter of water which equals one gram
gold is 19.3 times more dense than water
the cubic volume in centimeters is 0.942cm³
which is just over 18 grams of pure gold
in a cubic centimeter of gold each karat of purity would be 0.8 grams
was ist los mit meinen berechnungen?
vielen Dank ✌️
9.42 = π³
don't know if that's significant.. but it is interesting ;;~} the volume of the coin is 9.42mm³
If you want old man francios check out the 100 Corona
Tenho de 1892
Debating between the 1915 Ducat and a 1910ish 20 Coronas. Probably going to get the Corona.
