I liked the way it was done, once we reached the conclusion that is. The Uchiha and their Sharingan were extremely powerful, but almost every single one of them was killed, so the broken abilities are extremely rare in the manga as a result. The broken/forbidden/plot armor-esque abilities all being named after ancient Japanese gods was a nice touch, imo. Izanagi and Izanami being a pair, and only seeing the former from the Uchiha consumed by their Curse of Hatred, and the latter by Itachi, the prime example of an Uchiha who conquered the Curse of Hatred with the Will of Fire, I thought that was very poetic. And the abilities do have their drawbacks. Permanently losing the eye is a massive downside to izanagi and izanami. Madara only regained the eye from awakening the first Rinnegan in 1000 years.
It's not plot armor. It's called the entire Uchiha bloodline had to wiped out due to radical fear of their unique powers. If the Sharingan didn't possess amazing powers like this, why would the clan be feared enough to massacre them? Most people don't realize that even after the clan began to host meets of revolting against the Leaf and spying on them. Itachi never intended to murder the entire clan. He might've been a kid but he was still a captain of the anbu black ops with the awareness that Shisui's and his power would always ensure peace among the village. They'd likely grow up and turn out to be the most powerful Uchihas who ever lived, maybe even Hokage. Then Shisui lost his eye and died. Itachi was alone and his father (Fugaku) finally revealed he possessed the mangekyo and had plans to use it to control the nine tails and reign war on the leaf. If Shisui remains alive, they easily overpower Fugaku and stop the revolt with some combination of their genjutsu powers, etc. and the Uchiha Clan lives but since he's dead and Itachi knows "Madara" won't help him save the village as the heroic option because he resents the clan, he sees no choice but massacre them because as you can see now it truly was the only option other than war.
If only Obito didn't have a hacks ability she would have won. She thought everything out perfectly.

Konan was one of the beat kunoichi we ever got. Powerful, versatile, tactical like Shikamaru, and cool as hell. Just like all the other female ninja, she was reduced to a plot device that cant ever win their own battles. That, and we get yet another ridiculous plot armor eye jutsu usage.

Even if she *had* to lose here, I wish she had also been reincarnated in the war arc--to give closure to her and Nagato's arcs, as well as confirm her loyalty and ultimate death to Naruto.
This series never knew how to write women.
With the exceptions of 8 gates Gai, she has to be the most powerful character that wasn't born/gifted broken abilities like special eyes or tailed beasts. She invented her paper style, herself, out of a love for Origami and had Batman levels of analytics. Frankly, she was done dirty just because the plot needed her to lose.
Too bad Naruto never knew that Konan died trying to keep him safe from Madara. She could’ve made a great big sister for Naruto.

Konan was the second person to read and counter Obito’s kamui. She even surpassed Minato in terms of fighting against Obito and managed to kill him. She did have prep time, but still impressive.

@@TheLastSaint17 Technically, all Minato did was beat Obito in a fight and then Obito just teleported away. Konan literally killed Obito and Obito had to use Izanagi (aka bullshit no jutsu) to reality warp away his death.

In my opinion, that doesn't put Konan above Minato, or even above Obito. She had to prep billions of explosive tags. I think that's cool and all, but that doesn't mean she's a badass fighter, that just means she's capable of prepping to create a chain of explosions that lasts for minutes on end.
Hell, if you go by her fighting alone, if she hadn't had those tags prepped she was about to get washed. Konan is okay against NPCs, but she wasn't shit compared to Obito, and she's definitely garbage compared to Minato. Jaguar is just delusional.

I always liked Konan, but this fight always stood out to me she literally came so close to taking his life. Had Obito not had a ability like the izanagi he most certainly would have died here.
There was a huge part of me that wanted her to live because a part of me wanted her to be there for Naruto the day he brought all of Obito and Madaras Schemes down.
It also would have been so much cooler if she found a way to be a big ally to the Hidden Leaf. She’s extremely powerful…

Become an ally to the hiddnen leaf village (by completely changing her beliefs because some kid with his talk no justsu change thier my minds). The Hidden leaf and the other great nations whose political and national policies and capitalist interests have resulted into the many great ninja wars. And these wars resulted into the destruction of the hidden rain many times over. she, nagato and yahiko suffered and became orphan.
Having her allying herself with the hidden leaf (a nation she despises). Now wouldn't that completely shift and change her character and everything she has been through.

Konan actually killed him but due to that reality bending joke of a writer's device called the sharingan, he rewrote reality as though he never died - though he lost the use of that eye and had to replace it.
What if Konan committed suicide at the end so obito couldn’t use genjutsu to find out where the rinnegan was and never found them? How would that change the series? 😂
Most likely he would’ve just searched for it relentlessly and had to have wasted a lot of time so he couldn’t join the war as quick as he did

I was upset too when konan , with all her strategies , lost . And that he has some sort of hack , but seeing it now, he got that mask for a good reason. So i think the plot twist was just right

3:35 You know, this sort of proves he at least masks the Mangekyou Sharingan some of the times he uses it. While it's a little misshapen, it looks nothing like the Kamui Eye after he's revealed.

Bit that always bothered me about this is that she planned for Obito's return full well knowing he was after Nagato's Rinnegan. But she never anticipated that she'd lose and Obito would in fact reach Nagatos corpse. If I were Konan, I would've either disposed of the Rinnegan or left a contingency of a paperbomb that destroys the Rinnegan right in front of Obito in that very moment he finds Nagatos corpse. No Rinnegan and that totally thwarts Madaras and Obitos plans.
I guess she thought, even if she WERE to lose while still being alive herself - which she may have considered unlikely given all her prep work, and her willingness to expend herself (and not knowing of busted jutsu like Izanagi 😂) - she'd hidden it well enough that maybe she felt she didn't need to desecrate her one remaining friend's corpse. :') Like, it feels she made enough of a contingency through her 3 main steps, and her having too much respect/emotional attachment to just destroy his eyes feels like good writing to me :') (But I totally get you for practicality!)

The OST really makes this fight. I remember this was the first Naruto scene I’ve ever seen even before I even knew what anime was. I thought it was a movie or something. And the ost Hurricane Suite has always stuck with me

I wish Obito had gotten out of this by being clever. Or using a different jutsu he learned. Izanagi just felt like bs when it was added. It just feels too random that it's an additional sharingan ability.
In general, I wish we got to see Obito use non-kamui abilities more often.
Yeah, it's far too much of a get out of jail free card. Given Konan put in so much thought to specifically counter him, using some broad get one free cancel just feels cheap. It would've been more satisfying if he managed to exploit some weakness in the paper bombs or utilize his abilities in some way, maybe make a small part of him tangible so he's propelled by the explosions to safety by sacrificing skin or something.

Izanagi is cheap but they did set it up with Danzo and it costs the user their eye permanently. And it makes sense in the theology of their world since their chakra power roots back to creation, with the senju being the origin of life generating power and the uchiha being the source of imaginative creation abilities. The two together make reality. So that the ultimate Uchiha power to be the ability to turn thoughts/dreams/images into reality is consistent with the mythology and not as random as it appears

You guys crying hacks meanwhile Danzo used and abused Izangi for an entire fight that Obito was narrating prior to this. This was an established jutsu, and it was never asserted that Obito couldn’t use it.
Obito plans every single thing out, he knows most jutsu’s and he knows what is needed to carry out his plan. Obito not having Izanagi would make LESS sense, how would someone mascarading around as Madara not have a failsafe incase he was killed.
Konan is smarter than any other woman in naruto. Tsunade and sakura are just brute strength. Konan is a W.

I feel like it was huge mistake to kill Konan off here. All that narrative about how the Rain Village was uncared for and tattered by war just for it to end up completely leaderless on the cusp of another war felt like the biggest oversight.
I think it would have been way better if Konan got defeated and the villagers came afterwards to save their Angel that has supported them for so long.
Really hated the way they killed her off. Her Jutsu made her immune to almost any kind of attack and they had her exhaust her chakra so she couldn’t use her Jutsu….I woulda just folded up into paper and flew away and kept hiding Nagato lol

If you think about , obito was the puppet of madra and was being used and manipulated just like he manipulated the Aksuksi , obito is also a victim and I never really considered him the villain more like a anti hero . From his perspective , mintuo , kakashi and the hidden leaf 🍃 village failed him . He believes that madra is doing right thing and follows him like a disciple following Christ . Until Naruto shows him the truth and he then reflects on his actions and decides to help Naruto and make amends with kakashi , he even sacrifices his own life just to save naruto . I truly believe that if obito ever got a chance to apologize to the akuiski , he would , I’d love to see deidara reaction to obito being the mastermind behind everything .
At least he got his answer as to why Nagato betrayed him, because Naruto was right and even he ended up seeing that.
obito always knew, of madara influence on him and noticed he had a curse mark in his heart, that further corrupted the good nature and depending how you look at it , has showed that inner battle in the actions he takes, first was when he attacked the 9tails why not act after the death of minato he was the only threat to him,and is free to act on it. is it because he knows its his son and still values it to resist the takeover?or him shadowing kakashi and see's how he affected himfollowing rin death.was he trying to find another way to revive her bcz he expirements in creatin what became the last ...a path to that world of dream but then went to go as far to bust a japan and declare war ...when you wouldve done better they not uniting ..was it to verify if theres any worth and value in the shinobi world, and tried to find justifaction before he ends it or saves it.with project tsukynomi. i love that contradiction and makes you think what to do, if allowed to bring peace or end.it if all you see is war and pain ...madara and obito reasoning is poetic.

A very story significant fight that gets overlooked. It reveals a huge plot twist that people tend to not realize and its that it shows us that Tobi is NOT Madara contrary to his claims. At the end we see both his eyes and it is revealed that one eye is Izanagi and the other is a Mangekyou ability not of Madaras. The mysterious masked mans identity becomes even more mysterious.
Ngl this is where I realized he was Obito. The hair , the scars around his crushed side, and like you said it became clear that he was not madara even before part of his face was exposed. But this is definitely in my top 3 SCENES in Naruto. Forget it being a fight just the scene itself and the ominous ost that plays just makes it all that much greater. Plus this is the most savage and most menacing tobi ever was. In just this scene alone he cemented himself as a better villian than the real madara, and even white mask Obito and massless Obito. This scene looked straight outta a high budget movie
