- Herceg Novi / Montenegro is a coastal town located at the Western entrance to the Bay of Kotor, Coming from Dubrovnik / Croatia on the way to Kotor it is the first stops.
Herceg Novi was called Castelnuovo ("New castle" in Italian) between 1482 and 1797 as part of the Ottoman Empire. Nowadays it is a popular with Russian and Serbian tourists who enjoy its calm atmosphere, beautiful vantage points, and seaside promenade. With just around 33.000 inhabitants it is less crowded compared to the most popular Montenegro vacation places Kotor and Budva.
We start our tour at the top castle, walk all around there and head downhill and around the sea. There we see the promenade before we walk around more, always taking the many steps going up and down the hillside. We end our tour with the beautiful sunset overlooking the lower sea castle ruins.

What a wonderful walk!!! Thank you so much. Now I regret not exploring the path from Pizzeria 6 past Pizzeria 5 down to the marina. We explored the piazza itself and the churches, but not the stairs leading to the walk to the Herzeg's statue. The good news is that there is a LOT to be discovered on our next trip :)

It is a city that, once you visit it, you always want to come back.

Did you have to get permission to walk on the castle walls? Or can you freely walk around there whenever?
The entrance fee was around 3 EUR at the time and you can walk around pretty much anywhere. From the walls you have a nice view of the town

Gracias por sus amables palabras. Mi nombre es Daniel. Durante los meses de mayo y junio he viajado por toda la costa adriática. Me tomó 6 semanas con mi primera parada en Viena, a Eslovenia, Croacia, Bosnia y Herzegovina a Montenegro y Albania por fin. Se grabaron más de 60 paseos que llegarán al canal en los próximos meses. Es un lugar muy bonito y las ciudades más desconocidas, como Herceg Novi, son buenas para una visita rápida, aunque sea por vídeo. Gracias por vernos y buena suerte con el canal
