try shopping at a Woolworths foods store, some of their items are a bit pricier but the quality is up there, also Cape Town has similar variety to Joburg but Cape Town is hands down cheaper than Joburg in most aspects, the bigger grocery stores like checkers will for the most part be similarly priced across the country, but some grocery stores are cheaper than others, but there are big differences in how the stores look lol, try comparing places like Checkers to its sister company Shoprite
South Africa is commonly touted as a lot cheaper than the US but after seeing the prices translated to USD, the cost of groceries seem to be similar to the US. So how exactly is it cheaper or is it a myth?
Checkers Hyper is a more expensive store. Stores like Checkers (not hyper), Shoprite, Pick n Pay and Spar offer much better value. If you want to take it further you may even go to a Boxer or Shoprite USave, but that nibs at your dignity a little bit. Little Eddie here is basically shopping at a Wegmans.
I think it's the overall cost of living that is cheaper here. Looking at individual items, the prices might differ depending on the brand and where you shop

When we go to the US or Europe they question us like criminals but they come here freely and enjoy the weaker Rand while most South Africans are unable to.

@@nleddie 🤙
try shopping at a Woolworths foods store, some of their items are a bit pricier but the quality is up there, also Cape Town has similar variety to Joburg but Cape Town is hands down cheaper than Joburg in most aspects, the bigger grocery stores like checkers will for the most part be similarly priced across the country, but some grocery stores are cheaper than others, but there are big differences in how the stores look lol, try comparing places like Checkers to its sister company Shoprite
I have gone to Woolworths vlogs coming.
Hi. Hope you're having a great visit to our beautiful country. 🇿🇦
I am
You should start googling the store you want to go to and see what time it closes.
I hear that.
prices are not what I expected it to be but the quality is much higher than the west so i'd pay whatever for better quality food
Yeah that is what I am saying-more expensive that what we are used to. But it make sense
In Cape Town I would say our prices are better, but Johannesburg seems to have more variety.
Really?
no ways cape town is expensive for nothing
Not true. Cape Town is more expensive.
Prices have gone up in the last 3-4 years. They have not remained stagnant, the world over.
18 rand to 1 usd he basically shopping at a Whole Foods other than shopping at a cheap grocery store
If you travel you would know food is expensive across the globe, the only advantage is if you use the US dollar life might be cheaper in certain countries but expensive for local citizens!
COME TO CAPE TOWN!
You cannot experience SA without being in the mother city.
Cape Town is not the true representation of SA. Gauteng is.
Stay tuned in to the channel
@@justicetshovhota3940 I dont think you can call any one place a true representation of SA. We are just so diverse. I've lived all my life in CT and that offends me it's like what have I not been living in SA?
what a stupid assessment and comment, geez 🙄@@justicetshovhota3940
Have you shopped at Woolworths Food yet? That one is top tier 👌
And top tier EXPENSIVE too!!! Only upper middle class can afford to do a full grocery shopping there. The rest of us might get one or two really favourite items from Woolworths, but can't afford more than that. We go to Checkers, Pick 'n Pay, Foodlover's, etc.
I have. A friend introduced me.
hope you were able to get your food 😊 before they closed
You showed us buttermilk in this video, Amasi and Inkomasi
There's a different kind of buttermilk he's referring to, not maas. We also do have what he's talking about in our stores.
You can’t say inkomasi is full cream milk 😂😂😂
South Africans love cheese.
I see
Agree I LOVE cheese 🧀 and I'm South African
Exactly. We do eat it.
Best cheese at Checkers is Wykes. The closest thing to proper English cheddar
Where is this in Joburg? They have a huge variety. I live in Durban, I wish I had that kind of variety. Do we have a Checkers like this in Durban?
Placed called eastgate mall
@nleddie My sister lives in Joburg. I want to show her this video. Checkers has upped their game the last couple years. You should try Woolworths ice-cream. It's really good.
The two closest Checkers to me are not huge stores, but both have very big cheese sections. They promote them usually on their in-house pamphlets which also come to us in the weekly community newspapers.
I was born here in Africa...I love cheese.
I am glad you do. Those who dont are missing out big time
South Africans 🇿🇦🇿🇦 love cheese.
You should visit Food Lovers Market, they have a big vegan selection
That actually is the store I was going to first but was closed so I walked across to Eastgate and ended up here
We not into cheese at at all but do eat it….one breakfast item that last the whole month😂🇿🇦
How do these prices compare to what yall paying though? We can see the conversion but we don't know the standard of the living 🖤
We as in in the us?
Hey Dude I live in the area I can Uber you free on days I'm not working. Let me know how we can get in contact.
@23:15, My man... do you realize how much bigger 500 KG would be? Those are 500 grams😅 500 Kilograms would be a thousand times bigger. Also, the reason brands you're familiar with are more expensive is that we import them, we pay for them is USDs when importing and they aren't priced to average South African earning in South African Rands.
Yeah. You know some time tounge slips. In states we dont use kg`s we use oz and lbs
@@nleddie Yeah, you're one of the few countries in the world not using the metric system.
Parmalat is an italian brand, from the City of Parma
You should also go to woolies/ woolworths. A bit pricey but beautiful stores and good food
Vlogs coming
Nothing is cheap for most South Africans earning a South African salary. The governments need restrictions on foreign travellers. No hate for anyone visiting though. When we go to the US or Europe they question us like criminals but they come here freely and enjoy the weaker Rand while most South Africans are unable to.
We bring money into the country so not sure why you would want to restrict us.
I also never understand why people say when we go to the US....blah blah blah
black people have 0 control over the rules or laws in the USA. That is why I left and many millions more want to leave
good stuff
bro u gotta come to PRETORIA
SA has a good balance of American and European influence.
Nice video bra and u are welcomed to relocate, file is reasonable here
Dude is a nomad
@13:46 You tried it lol, but welcome to SA.
Wish u could experience monti cusino its a fun place but far from where u are😢
It is actually very affordable to be vegetarian in sa thanks to the fresh produce and the quality. There are tofu products there too. Ps I love your comment about people who eat meat 😂😂
We love meat in SA 😊
They are called koeksisters… severely sweet, I get a toothache just by looking at them 😅
Diabetes on steroids.
Nestlé is pronounced like Nes-lay
NGL I rewinded twice coz I was thinking "did he sensor the word meat?"😂
🤣
slicing of bread is free
O so if you buy they will slice for you?
Usually there are a machine in front of the store where you can slice it@nleddie
@@nleddie no you slice it yourself
Are you going to be going to Cape Town? If so, how soon?
Stay tuned my friend
Pull up to cape town homie
Maybe i am there now...... stay tuned
bro got to the pizza at the frozen food and i realized i was eating the exact pizzas that bro showed us 💀
O that is crazy!
