Documenting building a dulcimer from the Folkcraft plans. Links to all of the stuff below for reference.
My brother asked if I could build a dulcimer with a Nordic Viking theme. He provided the plans, wood, and hardware. This was my second dulcimer build. It was a fun challenge to carve a dragon for the headpiece. The design and illustration for the dulcimer body were inspired by a couple of books I have on Viking history and art.

The dulcimer back is mahogany similar to this guitar wood from Luthiers Mercantile. Original source is no longer available. You can use guitar wood for dulcimer builds:
