Die Maschine and Mauer Der Toten are my favorite entries in Cold War. Especially Mauer Der Toten. Fire base Z and Foresaken aren’t bad, they’re pretty decent. I just don’t find myself returning to those maps mostly because of the lack of personality. I mean in BO4 we went to a gladiator arena, Ancient Greece, the titanic, and DEAD OF THE NIGHT is a Halloween nightmare come true. I love that style. Cold War is great and I love it, my only issues are the simple Easter eggs and the lack of personality within the maps (aside from Mauer).
compared to cold war, any Bo3/4 map is a cinematic masterpiece. I just wish we had that much care put into the writing still. I love the gameplay of cold war but the story and the way the story is shown is so meh.
the ending is so true, us old zombies fans need to realise that the old formula won't come back and we just have to keep an open mind in future zombies games esp if we want the zombies mode to not be scrapped
Cold war zombies was the first COD zombies game I ever played. I always hear lots of negativity about it but it's easily my favorite. Die Machine is home to me. I also love outbreak because my crew can just chill and have a great time after work. I guess if I were a pro gamer, i might have a different opinion but I absolutely love Cold war zombies. I enjoyed cold war too, outside of the thousands of glitches at launch and all the times my PC crashed, it was a good zombies experience, it's just a shame we only got 4 round based maps, while 5 years ago we got 6 plus 8 remastered maps

This is hands down the greatest retrospective on Cold War I've ever seen, and it reflects my personal thoughts too, also giving me a new prospective. The Outro was the best ending for a video ever. I sincerely hope that Der Unfun will become Der Anfang in the time being.

I’m a new player and I love Outbreak. This was good because I have no history with zombies and am not attached in the same way zombies players are who have played since day 1. It’s a great perspective on the game. Awesome job Kingman!!
Kimpossible… for me BOCW was disappointing, i still hate the movement, the animations, the sounds. Zombies also was meh for me, the overall feel was very F2P- / Mobilegame-like in BOCW, i think it would‘ve been better for me with the gun feel, sounds, animations etc. from BO4. i hope Vanguard gets some good maps, because the guns and stuff over there feel much better!

COD IW for example had one of the most complete Zombie experience of any Zombies game! the rewards from the Eastereggs were great, the vibes you were getting from each map (except the last one), the mephisto "endboss", the special characters.... it's sad that pretty much any older COD is dead on pc, cuz IW Zombies really was fun. also about BO4 i have to admit that i didn't like it at first when it came out, but after getting used to it, it was fun! well at least the "new" chaos-storyline, i don't care about aether-story anymore, it was supposed to end in BO3, then in BO4 and now it's back again in BOCW and compared to the previous BO games it's just bad sadly...

I feel like you need to mention Dead Ops and Onslaught(Which comes to PC and Xbox today). Dead Ops on Cold War was super nostalgic facing all sorts of enemies from the last decade. Onslaught is also something we’ve never seen before, zombies on every multiplayer map! I love playing Onslaught on the Bo1 and Bo2 maps that returned to Cold War.
I disagree with the fiele upgrades unusefulness. I find myself using cryo when i have to do difficult challenges, frenzied for training and safety net, ring for some strats, aether for some eg steps, toxic for camping. I dont Think energy mine makes any sense whatsoever, but hearing aura in coop is useful.
Energy mine is actually really good when upgraded to tier 5 because the mines deal massive anti armor damage and explode 3 separate times. It's great for crowd control as the mines can easily deal with large hordes and can instakill krasniy soldats.
Great video! I think the future of zombies is in good hands. Cold War is very slept on in my opinion. We need to realize we won’t ever see the golden age of BO2,3 and 4. Also gotta keep high hopes for Jason Blundell’s studio, I really hope it’s gonna be a strictly zombies game with singleplayer and Online like GTA.
I actually loved Cold War Zombies. I enjoyed it so much that I became a bit of a completionist which I've never done in a COD game before. I got Dark Aether camo on every gun, melee, and DLC weapon including the recent Hammer and Sickle that was released. I liked a lot of things like Scorestreaks in zombies, the Armor system, the removal of the perk limit, Field Upgrades, spawning in with your own loadouts, etc. It wasn't perfect, but I would honestly love to have Zombies Chronicles 2 on Cold War Zombies instead of Vanguard (since it's quite boring imo)
This was one of the best brake downs I’ve seen blunt and straight to the point. I can say I have seen game play of vanguard zombies and I am not impressed but I will wait tell the game comes out and I see streamers and others play it but there is a lot that draws me away from it.
Cold War did a later update that teased a Dark Aether cult that foreshadow a new threat in the Dark Aether. You make a pact as an operator in Outbreak, but I don't think it was ever out when this video was made. It probably ties directly to the old ones mentioned by Sparagmos.
The thing with Outbreak which I rarely see people talk about is the way the game mode changed over time. Outbreak was continuously updated with new features throughout BOCW's lifecycle, and the Outbreak we have now is quite different from what we had back in season 2. Outbreak at launch was, frankly, a rather barebones experience. There were only 3 maps at launch, and honestly Ruka and Golova looked and played very similarly to one another. The wonder of playing zombies in a massive open world faded quite quickly, as by the 4th warp you realized that you'd already seen most of what this mode had to offer. Crucially, the mode didn't have a main easter egg quest or even really any side easter eggs. It's hard to remember, but we actually haven't had a map or mode without some kind of main quest since Kino der Toten and Five all the way back in Black Ops 1. Outbreak just felt kind of boring and pointless. There wasn't really anything to do besides try to see how high of a warp you find get to, and it wasn't that fun or engaging because each warp played out ao similarly, just do x objective on y map youve already done before. The mode felt like it had a lot of potential, but we were playing it in "early access". I think that's why so many people say they disliked it. Slowly but surely though, Outbreak started getting more content as the seasons rolled by. The Inversia and Izsesheniye easter egg quests were pretty well done, I especially love the room full of mimics in the first one. It's just a shame that we had to wait months to get them. The addition of the tank and grappling hook were great, the latter in particular opening up lots of new movement options and breathing new life into boring maps like Ruka as you could now zip between the trees. The combined arms maps Armada and Collateral were added, which I think they should have done from the start as they strike the perfect balance of not being too small like standard 6v6 maps but not being excessively large like the Fireteam maps, though I wonder why they never added Crossroads, Miami or Cartel to Outbreak. And I really like the radio side easter egg that sometimes appears on the map. Functionally the same thing as the start of the Inversia easter egg with the Maxis radios, this version gives you quite a bit of Aetherium and salvage as well as randomly playing one of like 10 different classic zombies secret songs, which was also unlocked for you to listen to in the game menus.
32:00 Mauer in my opinion has too many boss zombies sometimes it feels too overwhelming when playing with my friend 4-10 boss zombies a round it becomes too much
Watched the whole video. Pretty much agree with everything. I thought die maschine was a great starting point but outbreak took any and all care i had for the game and tossed it out the window. I just feel like outbreak was a massive slap in the face to the fans of zombies and the fact it was successful really puts my hope for the future of zombies into question. I hope vanguard turns out well but the fact we aren't even starting with a round based map is an enormous red flag for me. Great video, i can see how much work you put into it and you know your shit.

In my opinion this is the most fun core gameplay zombies has ever had easily. Fast paced gameplay, progression is finally extended past round 10-20, great wonder weapons, great gunplay, best perk system. Rampage inducer is also great for making early rounds less boring. But I still think it's second to BO3 overall, which is propelled by having the best easter eggs, story, and (alongside BO4) map aesthetics. Cold War lags behind in those three factors (although I think Mauer did a good job with easter egg and atmosphere making it the strongest map in the game). I also think this is the game where Treyarch finally got side game modes to work. BO2's side modes were pretty much a failure, BO1 and 3 only had dead ops, and BO4 gauntlets and rush were misses imo after the first time through or first couple play throughs. I'm not a huge fan of Outbreak but I still feel like it was the most successful alternate game mode in terms of going outside the box and making a new experience. I would've liked it a lot if there were WAY more objectives but I'm not a huge fan. Onslaught, despite starting out dogshit, is actually really fun (fuck exclusivity though) and is an ideal quick and simple zombies experience imo. Really chaotic and really fun. First person dead ops is goated, and I think cranked is...something...that spices up gameplay every once in a while.
The only reason I'm not getting into higher rounds is because of incompetent team mates. Just last game I had 480 zombie kills while the guy who had the second highest only had 320 kills. And that's saying a lot when I only ran around with a shot gun and a sniper for the last 6 rounds. I also had the least downs. I only went down 1 time while my two team mates went down 5 and 7 times. This was on Die Machine and we only got to round 17.

You made a great video and agreed with a lot of your points, I thought Forsaken was pretty boring personally and played the map twice, but I may go back and do those side Easter eggs. I am scared to the future of zombies as well, I don't think it will ever be the same again. (I was here at 5,600 views)
i couldn't agree more with your conclusion. i appreciate someone saying it out loud. im convinced the community's negative reaction to past iterations ruined many games opportunity to be not just good but great. as with such backlash the potential these games originally had gradually declined. i cant imagine the kind of unending pressure the devs have been experiencing for the last SEVERAL years. with activision breathing down their necks for another and another new game now now now and nearly every title being practically spat at with every launch.. seriously how does one draw any pride to have in their hard work? and youre surprised quality has taken a hit? theyve provided the exact product year in and out that built this community. the product that every one of us feel deeply invested in and care so strongly about. i know this because otherwise the games release wouldnt warrant much a reaction from any of us. granted im guilty just the same, as i honestly was not enthused about this reimagined mode for zombies but truth is theyll get my money for it regardless. although i refused to buy at launch i will buy it in time, even if every1 does nothing but shit on it the whole time.
To the games defense when it comes to storytelling. The majority of zombies games provide the majority of their information through exposition heavy audio logs. If you were to view it as an issue, it permeates the entirety of Zombies storytelling.
My biggest critique is that I wish outbreak would have more personality like imagine if outbreak had a wonder weapon quest. For me that would elevate outbreak so so much

In my opinion this is the most fun core gameplay zombies has ever had easily. Fast paced gameplay, progression is finally extended past round 10-20, great wonder weapons, great gunplay, best perk system. Rampage inducer is also great for making early rounds less boring. But I still think it's second to BO3 overall, which is propelled by having the best easter eggs, story, and (alongside BO4) map aesthetics. Cold War lags behind in those three factors (although I think Mauer did a good job with easter egg and atmosphere making it the strongest map in the game).
I also think this is the game where Treyarch finally got side game modes to work. BO2's side modes were pretty much a failure, BO1 and 3 only had dead ops, and BO4 gauntlets and rush were misses imo after the first time through or first couple play throughs. I'm not a huge fan of Outbreak but I still feel like it was the most successful alternate game mode in terms of going outside the box and making a new experience. I would've liked it a lot if there were WAY more objectives but I'm not a huge fan. Onslaught, despite starting out dogshit, is actually really fun (fuck exclusivity though) and is an ideal quick and simple zombies experience imo. Really chaotic and really fun. First person dead ops is goated, and I think cranked is...something...that spices up gameplay every once in a while.

The only reason I'm not getting into higher rounds is because of incompetent team mates. Just last game I had 480 zombie kills while the guy who had the second highest only had 320 kills. And that's saying a lot when I only ran around with a shot gun and a sniper for the last 6 rounds. I also had the least downs. I only went down 1 time while my two team mates went down 5 and 7 times. This was on Die Machine and we only got to round 17.
Sounds like your teammates aren't the only incompetent ones, come on, even with the worst players connected, how can you go down ok round 17 in die maschine? lol

You made a great video and agreed with a lot of your points, I thought Forsaken was pretty boring personally and played the map twice, but I may go back and do those side Easter eggs. I am scared to the future of zombies as well, I don't think it will ever be the same again.

i couldn't agree more with your conclusion. i appreciate someone saying it out loud. im convinced the community's negative reaction to past iterations ruined many games opportunity to be not just good but great. as with such backlash the potential these games originally had gradually declined. i cant imagine the kind of unending pressure the devs have been experiencing for the last SEVERAL years. with activision breathing down their necks for another and another new game now now now and nearly every title being practically spat at with every launch.. seriously how does one draw any pride to have in their hard work? and youre surprised quality has taken a hit? theyve provided the exact product year in and out that built this community. the product that every one of us feel deeply invested in and care so strongly about. i know this because otherwise the games release wouldnt warrant much a reaction from any of us. granted im guilty just the same, as i honestly was not enthused about this reimagined mode for zombies but truth is theyll get my money for it regardless. although i refused to buy at launch i will buy it in time, even if every1 does nothing but shit on it the whole time.

To the games defense when it comes to storytelling. The majority of zombies games provide the majority of their information through exposition heavy audio logs. If you were to view it as an issue, it permeates the entirety of Zombies storytelling.
