No, the funniest line is actually the Engineer's "Onstage, tonight: Fred Astaire.". It's funny because, as of 1978, Fred Astaire hadn't danced " onstage" in about four decades. The Engineer's idea of the American entertainment scene is a little out of date.😅
Love this song! Right here is why I’ve always wanted to play this role. It takes the white savior trope and says, “Nope, he’s just a well-meaning idiot wrapped up in a love affair with a woman and a culture he doesn’t understand. And unlike the movies, he ‘can’t save her. No one can.’” It’s a tragic love story wherein the only real villain is the setting and the subsequent circumstances the characters find themselves in. And that’s why it’s great.
This is excellent simply by being slow and giving time for the contents to sink in. Most versions rush though at a ridiculous pace. I don't know why. The acting is mostly quite good except for the part where Chris goes into a rant. Both Chris and Ellen generally sing well, but both have one or two off moments. Simon Bowman thankfully keeps his vibrato in check here.
Why do people criticize singers for having vibrato? The fact is that all healthy and well-trained singing voices have it! Of course, I'm talking about proper vibrato and not a wobble that affects the pitch, which is NOT what Simon Bowman had.
'Christ, I'm an American, how could I fail to do good?' is honestly the funniest line in the whole show
+Yanni9753 Please dont *doubt me* Ellen
+Yanni9753 why?

America today is different. Americans today are different. We used to have pride in doing what was right. Now, our pride is different

this is the original cast recording... this was the perfect cast.
I like this one. Gee, Simon's voice, nailed this one so flawlessly!!! Always a fan of the original cast...
Tell me you are lying
He said he'd come to get me
Please tell me you're not married
Love that motif underscoring this scene
This is incredible...best version, though there are some other really god versions out there too
What is with Simon Bowman's vibrato? It wobbles so much that at times you can't even if he has the right note.
+CG GG Yeah pissed me off a bit listening to Why God Why but I've listened to this soundtrack so much now that I'm used to it.
I just took it as emotion taking over. Acting
I always thought that "it's alright now" was a line of Kim and "with you" was a line of Ellen

At this point I really can’t stand Chris. He made a mess of things.
Glad that you like it... :)
uncomfortably flat to listen to at 2:23. Such a shame because the original cast on the whole is flawless!
@Kolbrun44 I totally agree!!!!
