@@apt62 My 2020 TRD Off Road Premium is far better than this delicate 4th gen Tacoma SUV. Not only is the 5th gen 4Runner far more reliable, it is several times more durable, having proper frame mounted front bumpstops so can handle simple pot holes without blowing a mount, as these do, with the crossover/car like shock mount bumpstops. Oh lets not forget the blowing front differentials. Every issue the 4th gen Tacoma has so will this "4Runner". More power doesn't mean better. The fender flares on this thing look like the plastic used to make disposable beer cups lol

wow, exactly the same as you, my first car did not choose pearl white for various reasons, but chose black which looked good. To be exact, black can make small scratches look so clear. I may have a little OCD, so what I can't stand most is that the small pits left by stones or other things on the road in the black door are really obvious, so the cars behind are not black, black just doesn't suit me LOL

Still, that is not a "serious hindrance." If you'll be paranoid about your $70K 4Runner getting scratched up as if it's some limited-production exotic supercar, then perhaps you shouldn't buy one. I think the catch toyota's trying to deal with is would anyone that have bought the previous 4Runner (which didn't have tech and all but they would've bought to keep for long time) be the ones to upgrade to the new generation anyway?
If they keep the old powertrain, those that have the previous generation would say something like it wouldn't be worth the upgrade since it's same mpg, same power etc while potential new buyers are like this thing is outdated compared to competition it's 2025 toyota wtf you doing
makes some sense at least why they'd update the powertrain, exterior and all to try to get new buyers instead as previous buyers of last gen would've not upgraded anyways since...they bought the previous gen to keep for a long time
like there are plenty of comments like "gah this 2025 sucks! I'm keeping my 2020, 21, 24 etc trd pro!"....like were you going to really upgrade anyways? you basically have a new vehicle lol

Yes, it will last you well over 10 years (like my 5th Gen). That being said, 270 hp and 278 torque mated to a 5-spd auto is laughable in today's standards for a truck that weighs nearly 5000 lbs. The 5th Gen is already behind the times today. It is already like a flip phone in the world of iPhone 15s. Can't imagine how far behind the times it will be 5-10 years from now.

    • @DragonKnightX12

@@iwazaru8101 Ironically I wouldn't even say it's behind. Most of these turbos 4 bangers and fancy 8-speed autos in real world are not anymore efficient than the old NA V6 powertrains. The only purpose they serve is appealing to the government's emissions standards.
Honestly diesels would of be better for actually efficiency improvements, but that's not happening with the regulations.

Really a very nice build, and agree 100% that a sliding rear cargo deck would be a fantastic option to make load floor completely flat. The tucked in rear wiper, power rear window and other touches make this more appealing to me than the GX550 or the Land Cruiser. While everyone loves the 5th gen 4Runner, the new powertrain and other modern touches might make this vehicle a worthy successor.

As an owner of a 2011 4 Runner sr5 4x4 with leather and a bit over 250k miles, it’s been an amazingly awesome vehicle! I’ve never really liked the current look of the newer 4 Runners so have been waiting for the next gen for quite some time. I’m disappointed in Toyota dropping the v6,but am super excited to see the extra gears in the next gen’s trans. It needed some extra gears badly, since this is my only complaint about my truck. I like the double “mustache” much more than the current look. 😊 The pricing is outrageous these days! I still have my old window sticker priced at 32k, can you believe it?! Dear Toyota Off Road Vehicle designer......That mountain of Great Wall hood looks gnarly! Whatcha got under that hood, a reverse-engineered Eldorado 500 cu in V8 with cold air shaker hood feeding 8 tuned intake ports!!!!!?????? no? A 146 cu in 4 banger? with a turbo! Be still my beating heart. Problem is, unless a drugstore cowboy is buying this rig, you know all hat and no cows; a real off-roader is gonna cuss like a stevedore at how that Toy -Too -Tall hood affects his forward sight lines as he finds a real nice rock to climb up and go down. If the mothership deems that there will be no more real sized motors with smooth as silk vee construction, thats ok. Toyota builds pancake four motors alongside Subie for the Toyota GR86; hows about a flat four for these off roaders, with "cab forward" seating so that the front hood disappears and the driver has an unlimited front sight line? oh, yeah: Toyota prefers the driver be looking at a 17" QLED screen with multi cams (so that the built in toyota app can take direct control of the electric steering and so protect the occupants to Toyota's satisfaction; gawd I love AI!) and not make the driver bother with manual operation of their transformer Toy Toyota. Two greatest days in my Toyota Life. Nov 22, 2021, took delivery of my new Tundra V8; October 19, 2024, took delivery my new 5gen v6 4Runner. Both gonna outlast me, trouble-free. So what do I think about junior here? I think it is time for my future vehicle money to say Sayonara Toyota-san!

The seats have been notoriously uncomfortable. Any improvements there? Do they track on the road better? Any real improvements besides the radio?

Yes all of that has been improved if it’s anything like the new Tacoma.

Buying a 5th Gen today will be like buying a flip phone in the world of iPhone 15s. Your new 5th gen will last you well over 10+ years, but it might as well be a Motorola DynaTac in 2034.

It’s growing on me but I just don’t know about that front grill.
Since the price even for a basic SR5 would be crazy high, I’ll pass and keep my 2021. Even though I hardly ever drive it thanks to the wife.😢

Hey Jon! I had no other way of asking this, but what are your opinions on a RWD 4Runner. Me and my wife are expecting a baby in June and we’re in the market for a new car. We’re stuck on either a 4Runner or Tacoma but the market right now for 4Runners is pretty thin outside of RWD ones. Curious what your thoughts are.

I don’t know. The exterior doesn’t do it for me. The interior looked great. Maybe it’s just the white black color scheme as it shows up on camera but the shape of the truck looks strange.

It’s built for a new gen of buyers, which is the point, but I’m not one of them. All good. I don’t understand the gloss black, but that just proves my point, I’m old. Yay. 👍🤪🏳️‍🌈
