Thanks for the brutal honesty. Absolutely necessary. I recently left a 3/5 review in a British fine dining location. They mustn’t have liked it as they soon blocked me following their socials. Keep the honesty up, both of you!
Oh no, that's annoying, sorry about that! If anything, feedback is positive and should provide as a resource to improve... guess they didn't see it that way haha. Honesty isn't going anywhere haha :)
Interesting Alexander The Guest also said the food was good and it wasn't spectacular. I could sense he was also disappointed. He honestly didn't give it a good review. I hope Chef Crenn reads these reviews.
Did business with Chef Crenn years back. Ate there when she had 2 Stars and the meal blew me away. The 'walk in the forest' dish still resonates. $125 for 5 courses and was very soulful. Different than what I saw in this video. Chef Juan is a truly nice guy and his desserts are phenomenal!
We totally believe that! I bet it was much different back then. This meal just felt like she hasn't visited the restaurant in a while... but agreed, desserts were creative and whimsical and delicious!
@@S3Lifestyle different when the Chef is there. Fredy Giradet was always in his kitchen, and when asked why he didn't go around and promote more he responded that he needed to be there for the guests. I think you would really need a CDC that would do it as good as you can.
That's one thing which pescatarian menu's desire, which is to be able to wow the guests. That actually looked like an attempt to get a michelin star rather than a 3 michelin star course.
Are you familiar with "Alexander the Guest" youtube channel??? He also visits three star Michelin restaurants. Every restaurant I've seen on his channel put this place to shame, many for less money.
We ate at Atelier Crenn back in 2014 when it was a two-star Michelin restaurant and it was comically awful. Alas, it doesn't seem like much has changed.
I agree with your assessment. When I went it was underwhelming and was too dessert heavy. I can't recommend Atelier Crenn. Instead go to Single Thread...still probably one of the best dining experience I had.
I really enjoyed the new(?) format of you guys talking to the camera about the meal after the fact. Definitely going to be taking this one off my list for now, the other California 3 stars look so much better. Thanks for the review!
Thanks for sharing your feedback, we'll be including more front facing moving forward :) We'll see how it goes, haha! And yes... probably best to avoid this one haha!
I have eaten there before the huge accolades when they had a star and just before she received 2. It was amazing and a third of the price. What I saw here, was not the Atelier Crenn that I knew prior.
Its nice to see videos that show that even high end restaurants have its flaws. I have gone to places that is not even michellin stared with way better presentation.
I had a very similar experience many years back, when Crenn was a 2-star restaurant: Inconsistent courses (some were punchy and exciting, but often unidimensional and always very, very small portions) and mediocre service. It always puzzles me why the accolades keep rolling in.
Thanks for posting this. All too often, reviews of these restaurants are far too fawning. I would be very unhappy if I shelled out $450 per person for this.
As a cook myshelf i find it dissapointing most restaurants forget how to actually cook and develop flavour layers instead they use molds to give purred chicken a different shape or other techniques that are overrated imo
It seems even Michelin starred restaurants struggle to make good and tasty alternative menus. Pescetarian/non dairy is quite the restriction, but at this level they should still be able to pull it off, for sure.
I went in 2016 and they had a 12 savory dishes with a +1 option. Followed by 7 dessert courses. It was delicious and worth every penny! I am a 6'2 dude, but I was full (not stuffed) by the end. Did they remove their signature brioche loaf?
This is the kind of experience that adds fuel to the uninformed saying "you'd need a burger after that", in relation to fine dining. Every fine dining establishment in Europe has left me between comfortably full and stuffed; sadly I don't see myself paying AC a visit anytime soon. Obviously a visit to a 3* isn't about stuffing yourself, but it should be a given that you won't leave hungry.
Truly another great review. Alexander the guest also gave it a ehh review. He really wasn’t impressed and I’ve seen him disappointed before but a few of the dishes he wanted to do a Gordon Ramsey and spit it to the napkin.
This video shows that this restaurant charging almost $500 usd per person for the menu was pure robbery. To be honest, this is the worst reviewed 3 star restaurant video I have ever seen.
Dominque has been over blown for 10+ years easily.... never shined brighter than coi, was always what is everyone else doing, that's what we're doing type place. The most damning piece of this review is when they went in the kitchen... no Chef, go figure
awwww I thought you two would've had an amazing time at Atelier Crenn. I went back in 2019, a week after they received their third star. The menu I got is DRASTICALLY different than what you two got. Nevertheless, thank you for the insights
Have eaten many 3 hat restaurants in Australia. Many of them no 1 at the time. Unfortunately this kind of food happens. Its all a show, no substance, more times than not. If I get 3 good plates, I am happy, but does not happen often. Love your honesty.
I didn't enjoy the 'trolling' wait staff. There was constant movement of the staff; walking in a line and staring at tables. It felt chaotic and distracting. Excellent wait staff are invisible yet attentive and efficient.
Commenting on the size of the restaurant is stupid and that’s the people that they know they can accommodate based on their menu so you can throw that out the window. Thank you.
@@S3Lifestyle One dimensional and none of the course of the tasting menu was memorable. It was mostly dishes consists of sweet, sour, olive oil, vinaigrette, orange zest variations. All tasted similar and there was no WOW factor that make you think that you're eating at a Michelin restaurant, let alone a three star Michelin.
Sadly it's true, the city used to be one of the creative powerhouses of America, now it seems well past its prime. I've started seeing "visit San Francisco today" adverts; since when did SF have to advertise itself? Quite sad.
LOL....the comment I'd expect from a FL realtor who's been beating the "CA is done' drum for years now. Arman is just schilling for his business interests, not offering realistic information. He needs to pretend Naples is still hot to protect his income stream.
I can’t believe they didn’t clear the table in a timely manner. Last year I went to Providence and they didn’t bother to clean the bread crumbs or salt from the salted prawns off our table. I even made a point to brush some off with my hands when a server came to our table and it didn’t even make them flinch. I feel they should lose a star for that.
good honest review, I almost feel that these 3 Michelin stars are just all showy and no substance - I mean sure it will look good on your instagram but ultimately the proof is in the pudding - thank you again for a straight up review, it's refreshing!
Thanks, definitely wanted to share our honest experience! Most Michelins we go to are true works of art, full of substance and incredible expressions of what chefs are able to create... but, unfortunately, it's not always the case!
@@S3Lifestyle Yes you can tell the ones that are just doing it for the glamour and prestige but that has to be backed up AMAZING food and service, so thanks once again!

Love it, I hate when alleged foodies act like every Michelin restaurant is the be all end all
Yeah, unfortunately this wasn't the michelin restaurant for us, haha..
That's too bad. I have been 3 times and I adored the experience each time. The food was outstanding. I got perfection! Cheers!

Please excuse my ignorance, BUT, with the 20% fee added to the bill, is it still expected to leave an additional tip?

The food looks pretty here. Taste is more on par with a 1 star.

I think the comparisons are being picky. Every resource is unique and has a right not to be compared with others.
I mean fair... but even on it's own, without comparison, left us feeling really underwhelmed, but I get your point!
