When I was living in Korea I heard about so many people (mostly guys) that were in this situation, adopted to the States, the citizenship never finalized, get in trouble with the law as an adult and get deported to Korea, and they know nothing of the country, language, culture. One guy like this eventually married a Korean woman that had lived in the States so she understood him, and he opened a Mexican restaurant in Korea because that was the food and culture he grew up with in the States.

Also, as a sweepstakes, he was giving away a trip to New Orleans lmao, where all the tragedy in the movie takes place. Also dumb is why he uses a Korean American in a story taking place in New Orleans, where there is already a huge Vietnamese American community. All stories that take place in New Orleans are embarrassing. They mess up the accents, the screw up the locations, (why are NOPD in Westwego arresting this man lmao) just an all around embarrassment.

@@burtan2000 There is a legal way and an illegal way to come into this country. Knowing this person was 3 years old when he came here, but don't know whether he was a citizen or not. If he wasn't, he had plenty of time to do so. It's gut-wrenching to see someone get separated from their family, but they do have a choice. Most of them are hard working tax paying citizens and I believe anyone who's been here should be a citizen. Most also have a choice to prevent separation and deportation, but they don't. I'm not an immigrant, but my ancestors were and did it legally. My wife is an immigrant and her family waited 2 years for their quota to come up and immigrate here legally. These illegals don't make it fair for those who follow the law. While I understand the humanitarian cause, many have forgotten there is a legal way to immigrate. Now with an open Southern Border and Afghan refugees (many whom are not vetted properly, let's see how long it take for another Terrorist attack on our soil. I am a Christian, but also believe in obeying law. Jesus said "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and give to God what is God's". Meaning follow the laws of the Roman Empire.

This hit home. I got admitted to a US college and applied for a visa to go study in the US and got denied 3 times the last months resulting in my savings gone and a depression. The immigration process is so difficult for people on the outside they do not care about you.
I feel like Alicia picks some of the most interesting roles; I always look forward to her projects. Really excited for this one especially, kinda seems like Oscar bait but in the best way. XD

I can't watch this movie. This actually happens to people who, in some cases, believe themselves to be American; or to a vet who fought on behalf of his country only to discover his parents did not file the proper paperwork decades ago. So sad, upsetting and un-American.
I just saw her in green knight she can so seamlessly change I don’t want to spoil the movie but I was amazed by her performance I love the actors that focus on the small things like mannerisms, accent, all the above makes the performance all the better

This isn't a true story. Nothing about this is true. The lead/director says he based this on like 6 different people. The location was also picked at random, I guess these hollywood types think it's hip to film in New Orleans and absolutely butcher the accents.
She’s great in The Light Between Oceans, another tear-jerker story, with her husband Michael Fassbender. They both put in beautiful performances in the film.

Thank god i was adopted to Europe.. adoptees in Europe got citizenship automatically during the adoption process.. that was nothing that adoptive parents could choose or "forget" the American system is so inhuman and shocking at times.. I was born in Korea, adopted to Europe when I was 4... getting deported to a country you do not know, not knowing the language, not having any family .. those kids / babies did not come voluntarily to the US .. American people chose to adopt them.. It is incredibly cruel.. shocking this is still happening to adoptees in the US.. this makes me truly sick

There is another movie like this that has Danai Jekesai Gurira( Michonne from Walking dead) in it. The movie name is The Visitor. It was the 1st movie I seen her in. It’s a very good movie.

Same thing happens in NZ, Australia, the US etc. They move there as a child, and then something happens and they are deported.

Wasn't expecting much and couldn't be more wrong. The emotions and dialogue are overwhelmingly powerful. The casts were amazing.
The dialogue could have been better, but at least there was no sentimentality.

Alicia has such a good New Orleans accent, you’d hardly think she has a polished Swedish accent, she’s a great actress!

There is another movie like this that has Danai Jekesai Gurira( Michonne from Walking dead) in it. The movie name is The Visitor. It was the 1st movie I seen her in. It’s a very good movie.

While the reviews aren’t too great especially if you read between the lines of critics bending over backwards to praise this movie while at the same time they bash it, it actually looks like an interesting story. Has anyone out there seen it and any thoughts?
