@Aman Gupta गुप्त साम्राज्य के लोग वैश्य वर्ण के थे इसका उल्लेख केवल विष्णुपुराण में ही मिलता है शेष और कहीं नहीं जबकि शेष अन्य साक्ष्य जैसे प्रभावती गुप्ता का पूना और रिद्धपुर ताम्रपत्र में वह अपने पिता चन्द्रगुप्त द्वितीय विक्रमादित्य को ब्राह्मणों के धारण गोत्र का बताती है, वहीं अगर इस पूरे वंश के वैवाहिक संबंधों को देखा जाए तो यही पता चलता है कि चन्द्रगुप्त प्रथम को छोड़कर (चंद्रगुप्त प्रथम ने लिच्छवी राजकन्या से विवाह किया था जो कि एक क्षत्रिय राजवंश माना जाता है) लगभग सभी वैवाहिक संबंध ब्राह्मण राजवंशों के यहां ही स्थापित किए गए थे जैसे- वाकाटक वंश (पूना ताम्रपत्र के अनुसार), कदंब वंश (मैसूर के तालगुण्ड अभिलेख के अनुसार) इत्यादि। यहां पर ध्यान देने योग्य बात यह भी है कि वाकाटक और कदंब वंशी लोग बड़े प्रकाण्ड और रूढ़िवादी किस्म के ब्राह्मण थे जो वर्णशंकर विवाहों को कदापि अनुमति नहीं दे सकते थे।
