Hi! My highland-hybrid setup is in an open top aquarium, with nursery/water trays and egg crate grid bottoms to keep plant pots above the water level. Nepenthes are all rooted in around 50/50 perlite and dead sphagnum moss. Temps range from 69-77F, humidity usually above 65. If I water every 3-4 days, can root rot still happen despite good drainage?
@@yingg.6051 If the humidity stays high, the amount evaporated out is the main thing you would have to check, if it doesn't evaporate out all the time and stays waterlogged, there's a chance that bacteria can develop, Yes. This is kind of why I switched to the akadama media type. It drains a lot better and doesn't really keep it waterlogged just humid. But as long as you let it dry out a bit, you shouldn't have any issues to be honest 👍
@@Wiseexotics Thank you for the quick and very helpful response and suggestions! Gotcha, makes alot of sense. I'll look into akadama as media for more challenging nepenthes i hope to bring home in the future. Much appreciated!
@yingg.6051 I can recommend tiny roots they have a size variety for akadama and kanuma (for more acidic soil Nepenthes) , I've also had no issues using the premium blend and deciduous blend on my plants . But 2 bags get a % discount on Amazon 😂
Great video! I was always worried about my neps getting rot. For now that hasnt happend. Are veitchiis a little picky with the amount of water?
@@BaRoNvOnToOtS vietchii when young are not picky, but K specimens do like to dry out and not be as wet later into adulthood I was told
@@Wiseexotics oh thx! Also thx for specifying on the Veitchii K
@@BaRoNvOnToOtS no problem, usually that trait occurs when leaves get wavy
@@Wiseexotics oh uhh... my veitchii k's newest leaf is wavy🥲
@@BaRoNvOnToOtS just water it a little less, my K x k did same thing 👍
