You should know that I am from Germany (and have lived there for 31 1/2 years) and very rarely speak English. I have no problems understanding it, but speaking it will take a little practice. So please have a little patience with me ;-)))

Most people enjoy Spike just for getting rid of "the annoying one" alone, if not anything else.
I remember when this was first on initially, thinking Buffy was in trouble when Spike hit the "crucifixion" vampire without looking. I loved that by the end of the episode she had to be saved because Spike had the upper hand. Shows Spike as a better threat than other vampires have been. It also gave Joyce a great moment for rescuing Buffy and for doing so the way she did.
In the process of making the HD worse, did they make Xander and Angel's fighting of the vampires on the lawn fight sequence easier to see or just screw it up along with everything else HD seemed to screw up. I cannot remember. I remember this whole episode could have used the advantage of a good HD polish and thought it was my TV that was the problem on its initial airing, but that scene especially.
Nickel's _A Stupid Thing_ song; I wonder who and how people know the song, if they do, outside of this episode.
Spike says, "a slayer with family and friends," thus being the only person so far to (unintentionally on Spike's part) praise the idea of slayers using the help of family and friends.
Joyce: "Snyder said you we're a troublemaker." Considering what is in Buffy's file, unless he said something specific, Joyce's "get in the car now" moment wasn't based on enough for the line to be said.

I didn't even think much about Buffy having to be rescued by her mother and how that shows what a threat he actually is. But true, Joice's moment was great.
      BTW, downloaded that song 😅

Sire is usually used for the direct relationship, the vampire who turns a human into a vampire is their sire. It can also mean a more distant relationship, ie it could be short for grand-sire, great grand-sire, etc.

    • @sebastianwittmeier1274
      @sebastianwittmeier1274 3 года назад +3

Could also be that Angel (just) is Spike's idol: He also said, he was his Yoda in the same sentence and surely did not mean it literally (Angel is pale, but not green). So the relationship or respect could be the same as if he was his sire.

Landmark episode for the series for a lot of reasons, we get 2 vampires with actual names, personalities and dialogue so you know they're different; and Angel knows Spike. We learn that Buffy is a TERRIBLE liar. And we get a hint that Snyder knows more than he lets on. Nice scene as you said between Joyce and Buffy, would have liked more of those.
Drusilla is great, such depth and uniqueness. She' played by Juliet Landau, Hollywood royalty since she's the daughter of Martin Landau and Barbara Bains both of whom starred in the original "Mission: Impossible TV series and "Space: 1999". Joss Whedon was so impressed with her performance in "Ed Wood" in 1994 he didn't give her an audition; her dad played Bela Lugosi in that film and won Best Supporting Actor Oscar.

So great you enjoyed Spike's introduction 😊
Also, Cordelia's little speech is so awesome 😁
Yup, Joyce not finding out Buffy's a Slayer is disappointing on a first watch. I think they needed it to come up with more funny jokes. The thing is, it would be more logical if Buffy at least asked her Mom not to invite any strangers to their house at some point. It's a huge risk, knowing there's a lot of vampires out there and they can be invited to your house.
P.S. When I was little, after watching this series, I never phrased my sentences like an invite and watched if people could come in 😅

Buffy should have thought about that back in 1x07, when Darla nibbled on her mother. But hey, she has so much on her mind....😅

You picked up on the fact that Snyder is a dick! As already noted, fans even at the time were happy that Spike ridded us of the annoying one, but it made sense - he had played a role at the end of Season 1, but he no longer contributes to the arc of Season 2 or to the overarching arc of the series. That Spike line on meeting Buffy in the hallway, "I smell the blood of a nice ripe girl" can and has been interpreted as possibly being menstrual. Xander's reaction to the tampon when he was looking for the stake is both priceless, but also may provide credence to the theory. Odd theory, and not sure that it makes a difference one way or the other, but it's not mine originally, it came from a 99-cent e-book on Amazon "Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Myth, Metaphor, and Morality." It's a good read, and does episode by episode analysis carefully avoiding spoilers of future references, so you can read it chapter by chapter to get insight into the episodes, but you'd have to be disciplined enough to not read ahead. It also provides interesting references to the cultural references that keep coming up in the dialog. I was 37 years old when this show first aired, so I pretty much caught them all, but to younger audiences, some may not make sense.
Buffy's mom came through in the end, both physically by hitting Spike when he was about to kill Buffy, and emotionally when she complimented Buffy as being brave, resourceful, etc. Finally, that exchange between Angel and Xander, where Xander says "What if he'd bit me!!??". Followed by Angel's response of "then we'd know he was convinced" is both funny AND reinforces the dislike Xander has for Angel, beyond his continued jealousy of not being Buffy's chosen love interest.
Thanks as always for the reaction.

As you have no doubt noticed, the fans have adopted "The Annoying One" as that kid vampire's true name.
I'm curious about this St. Vigeous. Was he a holy man who was turned into a vampire without the knowledge of the Church? Or was he a vampire who later became pious? It's very confusing.

    • @dodoreactions1336

That's right, St. Vigeous... what exactly was it about him in this episode anyway...🤔
