    Btw... Miyazaki will die in the studio. As long as he breathes, he won't stop. The man is the epitome of an artist. He gives no shits about content. He is fully engrossed by the process and the emotional effect. I dont think he even knoww what his movies are fully about. I love that guy ❤

    • @KadeemG61
      @KadeemG61 10 месяцев назад +2

      No, Miyazaki won’t die in a studio. If he plans on retiring, then this could be his final send-off to one of the best anime movies of the year.

      If we're lucky maybe he'll crank out one or two more shorts. Ridley Scott is still going strong and he's a few years older.

      @@KadeemG61 Miyazaki and retirement don't go in the same sentence. Real artists can't conceive such a thing. They just take extended breaks to refill their creativity meters 🎬

    I think it's fair to say that Hayao Miyazaki will not retire, the man is the living definition of workaholic and he is so in love with what he does as an artist that it wouldn't surprise me if he kept making movies up until he was 100.
    God willing I hope he lives to be that long and still making movies.
    But it just goes to show that the older you get, you can still feel some degree of energy for creating new things for people to enjoy and it's beautiful to see Miyazaki still go forward with that.

    I had only seen Spirited Away until tonight when I watched My Neighbour Totoro. Incredible. I had tears in my eyes for most of it.
    I loved S.A. when I watched it a few years ago, no idea why I didn't follow it up back then but thanks to you and this review I'm now dedicated to watching everything Miyazaki has made. I should see the latest one in the cinema to say I did so

    Imo, this movie is the deepest Miyazaki movie. On the surface, it's a mix of Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. but to me, it's a love letter from Miyazaki to us. He's telling us to create beautiful worlds untainted by malice. That block that Mahito kept at the end represent the movie itself, a powerful reminder that we have the power to create something beautiful.

    I've got my fingers crossed this film is going to come close enough to me to see it at the theatre. My jaw just dropped when I saw the poster-art for this film; I want it for my wall. I haven't attempted to find a promotional movie poster since, I don't know - the 1980's? That's another lost art form just like 33rpm album cover creations. I'm looking forward to your ranking of Miyazaki's films. My niece, who is in her early 30's and is an animator herself, is heavily influenced by this man's work.

    3:50 - You forgot the dash of Howl's Moving Castle (fire imagery, doors) and the dash of My Neighbor Totoro! [Edit: Oops, I posted before you got to Howl's!] Plus, it's not just dashes of Miyazaki: the opening sequence is Grave of the Fireflies, and I can't say how it relates to When Marnie Was There without major spoilers. The awful Parrot King is also a bit of The Cat Returns.
