Yes labels do sometimes not let the bands mix their own stuff. I know a couple guys who have said to me at a show that they had an audio engineer friend who would've done everything for them, but the label didn't let them. This is in the indie scene tho, but yeah imaginable, because Tweed Rave for example has some of the BEST drums I've heard in the last year, so...
I think the problem for me is mostly the snares. The kick is fine imo but the snare is so quiet compared to the kick, especially when he does super big basses. Its like the kick is like BOOM and then... nothing. I think funny face sounds pretty good with the quiet drums but the other songs just dont really hit. Like u said great ideas but the production on the drums just doesnt hit. I think maybe it was a deadline problem or maybe leotrix just wanted to try out something different hovewer its not for me
So I'm really wondering why you don't want to react to the new HUKAE EP. He produces some of the most impressive music in the scene and his new EP proves that again. So I'm really curious why you're not going to react on that one.
It's crazy that leotrix has released 7 ep's since rhe start of 2021 and like 2 of them are the best future riddim ep's ever made

leotrix used like 1% of his abilities to make this, i have a feeling the label asked him to tone things down a bit
I feel like that could be the case but Monstercat also has featured artists like Papa Khan whos songs are way punchier than these, its strange.

I actually kinda like that Funnyface has stupid amounts of bass, but I haven't listened to it on a speaker so that might be why

Only one i didn’t like from the EP is Heart Tones
The rest was great imo
the mix sounds a bit Muddy to me but good music
