  • Do studies of near-death experiences in patients undergoing cardiac arrest lead to the conclusion that consciousness can exist apart from the brain?

By the way as someone who has been afraid of death for a while now Sam has really helped calm me down. And yes I do understand the irony of Christian profile pic, but my fear of death began when I started questioning if Christianity could be false. Now as a intellectual person who hates the idea of not being I vigorously pursued an answer to my question “Can I be absolutely certain God is real and I won’t cease to exist after death”. Ironically God did not withhold an answer and instead routinely sent answers of “no”. He wasn’t saying that I couldn’t be reasonably certain as this is both possible and what I have discovered meaning beyond reasonable doubt, but instead was saying that “I leave My existence up to investigation and inquiry” the reason being is that if He sat in some throne as a physical being hovering above us we would believe out of pure fear to survive not love. However we can come to the conclusion that He exists logically. But also we must not forget the witness of the Holy Spirit to the heart. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength” - Jesus Christ. Hope this helps someone :)

Erasing Death is next on my list. I just read 'The Lazarus Effect' and was completely fascinated. I agree that there should absolutely be scientific research into what happens to consciousness or the mind after death. If studies already suggest that consciousness does in fact continue after a person is clinically dead and scientists can find ways to prove it, the funding for such research should be made available.

Please read the books: Illusory Souls, by G.M. Woerlee, and The Soul Fallacy, by Julien Musolino. These are brilliant books that discuss revolution in neuroscience that is currently under way; a revolution which is demonstrating that consciousness is produced by the brain. The statements made by the panel in this video are not strong; indeed, if they were to read the books I listed they would have their questions answered. So check out these books. Highly recommended. :)

      "revolution in neuroscience"
Sure thing, buddy. That "revolution" is going on for around 100 years, hasnt really brought anything forth on the question of how consciousness arises from mind yet, except for eliminativism and hopeful handwaving. I dont know about Julien Musolinos book, but about Woerlees. Which is, to be blunt, a disappointment in every respect, begging the question and special pleading around every corner. Which is no surprise, given that Dr. Woerlee has an ideological axe to grind. Following a short research on Musolino, he does as well
Btw, Sam Parnia, at least, is very well acquainted with Gerry Woerlee and his arguments

It has allready been debunked. consciousness is not even created by the brain neuroscientists can´t even finish one awsner on consciousness. You and materalistic sciestist are well known for thier dogma. read science delusion. it debunks materialism and proves soul. And yes we do have a soul. there is no evidence whatsoever of what you are saying. you are just lying. stop lying please and please stop trolling there is allready enough of trolls in this world. Not my fault you are a religious fundamentalist that cant see the truth. maybe one day you will but now you follow the greatest lie called athiesm, yes athiesm is the biggest lie. And spirituality is the biggest truth. Spirituality is growing faster because its the truth.
