Hey, if anyone would like a video guitar lesson on this solo please thumb up this comment and I'll post something once the competition thingy is over. Thanks everybody for watching and commenting :D
It’s been 4 years and I still find myself back in this video for inspiration. You blew and you’re still blowing my mind dude! I hope one day you’ll publish an album with original music or something so can people enjoy your talent in its full potential.
Yeah, absolutely incredible. The full solo is still is one of my top 3 solos of all time, but the bit at 1:27 is my #1 favourite peice of all time. Deadset legendary. :) 😲😲😍😍
After listening to a dozen other solo contestants, this is still number 1 for me. It's not even close. Unless meaningless spaz arpeggios are your thing, re-listen to this solo and you can imagine it being your favorite tune on an Opeth album, or Ozzy getting an injection of truly creative guitar work finally.
+Appleblade Ah thanks a lot man. That's a major compliment. I try to keep it musical and do my thing but these competitions tend to reward more of the super technical players. Which is fine, I'm just gonna do my thing :)
+John Huldt ... right on. I like the idea of the competition--just as a thing to do (ya gotta do something with your time!), and a way to witness different styles you might otherwise never run across--but what you did was really great. Great melodic solo, and then pairing it with that instructional / explanational (word!) video explaining the music theory at work was special. Thanks for the reply, and kudos again!
+Ash Deowram You should def enter! Great way to meet new people (that's why I do it) :) And thank you very much. I'm not as technical as some of the shred wizards out there but I try to make up for it with melody and tone :)
+DuartChannel Thanks man! Don't think I'll tab this out (because it would be such a pain in the ass with all the meter changes and me figuring out what goes where) but I think I'll do a solid video lesson on it after the competition is over :)
+Deacchro Awe thanks man. I really appreciate that :) I did the best I could and even if I didn't win any prizes for it, if people liked it, that's all that matters.
really dig your tone man. I've always wanted to mess around with a kemper but never have. The lick you play at 0:58- 1:03 gave me goosebumps. hahah awesome entry.
Nice. lol The way i see it, if you're a guitar player, chances are you'll end up "borrowing" a lick from a past guitarist at some point. Ive done it many times as well. haha
+Christoph Schmidt Thanks man! You're hearing ze Kemper in all its glory. It's a HiWatt Dave Gilmour profile from theampfactory (And44 on the Kemper forums). I bumped the high mids up with an eq (and took some out of the track around the same frequency, around 2-5k) because it was so dense it was hard to get the guitar to cut through but I think I overdid it a bit and mixed the guitar too loud on top of that. Oh well...
Hey, John, how are you doin'? Crazy question: What are all those coffee bags in the room for? Some sort of soundproffing? Anyways, big fan of your work and crazy good submission.
+Ivan Fernandes Hi Ivan. Yeah, they're sound panels. It's basically a rectangular frame with sound absorbing foam that's covered with coffee bags. You can buy them kinda pricy or make them yourself kinda cheap :) Also thank you for your kind words :)
+The Outsider I might just. Seems like there's a few things people are wondering about. And I should probably do it before I forget the damn solo haha.
+John Huldt I watched it several times. I like how you built it up. Also that you are showing different techniques. I also use hybrid. Hope you win mate!
Hey, if anyone would like a video guitar lesson on this solo please thumb up this comment and I'll post something once the competition thingy is over. Thanks everybody for watching and commenting :D
+John Huldt Amazing lick and scale, please make a video lesson !!
+Paul Guegan Thanks Paul. I think I'll put one up tomorrow.
+John Huldt Lesson is up!
+John Huldt Cool Thank you very much !!!! ;)
+Paul Guegan Thank you!

1:27 made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up - brilliant
Thanks man :)
Yeah, absolutely incredible. The full solo is still is one of my top 3 solos of all time, but the bit at 1:27 is my #1 favourite peice of all time. Deadset legendary. :) 😲😲😍😍
The first minute is just pure glory.. and then it gets better!
+Carlos Damiano Bracho Haha thanks Carlos :)
One of the best solos in the competition.
+Albert Garcia Ah thanks a lot Albert. I really appreciate it :)
Hey John , I appreciate the way your solo danced with the body of the song.
5 years later and I still keep coming back for 0:53 and beyond, especially the 3 octave thingy, that just sounds so nostalgic and magical
Thank you sir!
very unique and beautiful

Dude you are freaking cold!!!
I was going to enter, then I saw this.
Jesus, your sense of melody is so on point!
+Ash Deowram You should def enter! Great way to meet new people (that's why I do it) :) And thank you very much. I'm not as technical as some of the shred wizards out there but I try to make up for it with melody and tone :)

One of the best soli i have ever heard my friend. Just phenomenal
Thank you. Also the first time I've heard someone use soli in rock context. You must come from classical music :)
John Huldt I play the piano as well :)
The stoicism while dropping some of those licks was pretty badass. Very cool stuff man!
+Quique Toloza lol I don't play with my face much :D

really dig your tone man. I've always wanted to mess around with a kemper but never have. The lick you play at 0:58- 1:03 gave me goosebumps. hahah awesome entry.
+TJ Swartwood Thanks man. That's really a SRV lick I stole from a Nick Johnston video a couple of weeks ago haha :)
Nice. lol The way i see it, if you're a guitar player, chances are you'll end up "borrowing" a lick from a past guitarist at some point. Ive done it many times as well. haha
most people like to point it out and talk shit. but with music, you can't re-invent the wheel, just take it and make it your own.
+TJ Swartwood Oh dude. I'm like 98% stolen licks!

Thank you very much, Thomas!
Thanks Thomas!
so many great ideas ! enjoyed it !
what are you using for your guitar tone john ?
+Christoph Schmidt Thanks man! You're hearing ze Kemper in all its glory. It's a HiWatt Dave Gilmour profile from theampfactory (And44 on the Kemper forums). I bumped the high mids up with an eq (and took some out of the track around the same frequency, around 2-5k) because it was so dense it was hard to get the guitar to cut through but I think I overdid it a bit and mixed the guitar too loud on top of that. Oh well...
El mejor solo del concurso, en mi opinión.

Dude...Fuck yeah bro
+McGlaven's SlotGasm Bro! Dude man. Thanks man :)
