Anyone knows the history behind this parade especially what it means to the coloured community and what it means to the afrikaaner community as well?

Historically, this parade occurred on January 2nd every year, because it was a rare day off for the enslaved people (coloured people's ancestors) in the Cape Colony. They performed coded songs, and dances, and played the ghoema drum, expressing their resistance in ways their enslavers (Afrikaners'ancestors) might not have fully understood. While some may have seen these performances as entertainment, in reality, they were making fun of their enslavers. For example: making use of innuendos enabled them to sing spot liedjies (mocking songs) about the slave owner's wife who had a lover among the slaves. This is just a brief, very simplified version of the very complex history of this tradition.
