@@TeamLexana over the summer, the crashing was atrocious. That's where a lot of bad reviews came from. The game would crash literally every turn by mid game. But they released a patch (in September, I think) that fixed that to a large degree. I personally no longer have any crashing issues. That said, it took months for that patch to come, probably because the developer who ports the game to console was working on a port for a direct competitor.
@@TheSjuris Aspyr handles iOS, but Humankind isn't coming out for iOS, so it isn't an issue there. And I could be wrong, but I believe Amplitude did the Mac version of Humankind in house. Ceasar should have had something like "after killing a unit, active land unit gets its movement refreshed" Maybe even pass rivers for free after a kill (crossing the tigra river)
Legitimately, you could give the Nzinga Mbande ability to any civ in the game and it'd make just as much sense. There's 0 thought put into making it synergize with Kongo's other abilities, which kind of negates the point of even having alternate leaders. Luckily the new leak seems like a huge step in the right direction, with Tokugawa and Nader Shah's abilities both seeming really well thought out and unique. But yeah, as for this pack, it's easily the lowest point in an otherwise absolutely fantastic track record of content.
I agree that Civ6 has reached a point of content saturation, and it's hard for the devs to find meaningful leader abilities which fit in with the civs yet are distinct and impactful when compared with other abilities in the game. Personally, Civ6 has reached the point where if I want more content I search the mod workshop for new civs/gamemodes.
I actually think the inclusion of Lincoln’s plantation/industrial zone bonus is pretty good. I think it’s intended more as a historical reference than a gameplay feature (like a slightly more consequential version of the Hunnic city names or Mayan clock in civ 5)
It just.... it's basically useless. Its (however small) a debuff to a civ that already has bad early game. The only leader ability that comes close is ghandi, but does have it's uses, just that it's hella weak. They should have just make it so you get a free worker/pop when pillaging plantations. Now THAT would be good/interesting AND flavourful. Heck even a loyalty bomb when you pillage plantations would be better.
I had all 3 DLCs in the game. I did not chose to download the leader pass or add it to a cart. However, the content is in my game. I now have 4 DLC and the 3 leaders are available to create games.
Lincoln was the only ability I found interesting. I finished a diety game with him via cultural domination victory. I built a ton of industrial zones like I was going for science, then invaded and took half the map. Biggest problem was keeping my economy running
I feel like this DLC is them getting a bunch of interns, having them create new leaders as projects, and then selling that as DLC. No way these small leader abilities would take an experienced team any meaningful amount of time to develop, and to put such a high price tag on it is pretty scammy
The Civ 6 was getting more unstable with each DLC to the point where I had to stop playing because in multiplayer it would crash for someone every 20ish turns. Im writing this a game developer myself, I'm very aware of how complex Civ as a game is, it's not an easy game to develop for sure, but for the price we paid for the game and every overvalued DLC we bought, this is absolutely unacceptable. I'm currently playing Humankind and hoping Civ 7 is made better and more stable.
I am withholding judgement. I am watching a couple of other content providers playing the new leaders and the games are interesting. The release was rough, but it was partly steams fault. I have enjoyed Civ 6, these leaders are free, and I applaud them doing this.
It seems as if the Leader Pass was automatically added to my Steam account without me having to manually download it myself. So whatever issues they had have probably been solved.
Yeah, I own all the DLCs (R&F, GS, the Frontier Pass, and the Scenario Pack) yet in the Epic Games store it still says I have to pay for the Leaders Pass. I got in contact with the 2K team and said to wait 24 hours. Hopefully tomorrow I'll see if I'm eligible to get the Pass without cost.
Leader Pass was free to me. Sure the first leaders don't have exciting abilities, but it's an excuse to come back to Civ 6 and there are more leaders to look forward to. What's not to like?
It's hard to be mad about free content. sure, the messy launch was annoying but in the end it's a nice bonus even if it isn't the best dlc. I agree though that you shouldn't buy this if you don't have the other dlc (mostley because you cant use several of the leaders then). They should probarbly just have made it as a free update for everyone and avoid all the issues.
1. Great Negotiators that have no bonuses related to negotiation. Check. 2. Leader abilities that are C tier at best. Check. 3. Haphazard rollout of content. Check. I’d have traded all of this for a built-in feature to use any leader with any civ. Wouldn’t that be cool?
Obviously the techincal problems sucked, especially that they didn’t make a good job of annoucing that the DLC will be free for people who have Anthology or all the DLCs, so some of these people actually purchased the DLC. And yes, the price tag might be a bit too high, although I don’t necessarily think so. But my, clearly unpopular opinion, is that I actually do appreciate having more content to such an old game! Even if you think it’s uninspired and boring, and some of it badly designed, I think it still provides more options and variety, and I certainly like being rewarded for all the money and time i spent on the game, by having extra content for free.
I can't quite agree that the Leader Pass is unnecessary as such. I do think it's overdue, though. In Civ VI they restored the ability to have multiple leader options per civ, which I thought was great, but then for the most part they didn't really do much with it. I'd have liked to have seen them putting out individual new leaders all along. The fact that they waited until Civ VI was obviously at the end of its life cycle to finally give us a bunch of new leaders to play with is disappointing. (And of course, as everyone has said, this first batch of new leaders are mostly uninteresting from a gameplay perspective, but we'll see how the rest of it goes.)
Yeah, I'd been thinking the same way, we really should have seen way more leaders for most civs, or it's kinda useless to have multiple leaders if almost all civs only have 1.
Abe can have an advantage with that loyalty in the uuuh God what is it... If you go into a dark age half your cities flip independent. If he's got better loyalty pressure than anyone else it's less of a problem by default.
Everything downloaded fine for me. I downloaded the dlc yesterday around 7pm in whatever time zone toronto is in. I agree this round of leaders are a little lackluster but I still did enjoy it for the most part. If i had to pay an extra free I would have been unhappy with the dlc
Thank you for your critic concerning data collection, I think nearly exactly the same. Other situation with your opinion towards the new leaders. I do really like Nzinga of Kongos characteristics/abilities. Especially the new kongolesian style of the neighborhood seems to be a good idea. Saladin's flanking bonusses are also very fine in my view. Only thing is, I do really think (at least to this moment) that Abe Lincoln is not really a leader I would like to play so much. (What I also still miss: ... the Korean turtleship ;-) ) Edit: Stop! Backwards! I was wrong, I checked it again, Kongo already had it's special neighbourhood-district, now I see your point, that there is not so much new about the new DLC-package. Well I received it without paying for it so I am not going to complain about it 😉.
When I got the DLC, the Steam page told me there was new DLC that was added and would be installed next time I started the game. I tried to start the game to make sure everything was okay, but I got an error message. I ended up un-installing and re-installing everything, which seemed to fix it. I'm just a little aesthetically bothered now. You know when you load up a saved game and have a mini-map preview? All the games I've saved since the DLC was added (I save often) show a color-negative mini-map preview. Also, a lot of the graphics are slightly zoomed in--it's minor but noticeable.
Perspective significantly changes if you're getting the leader's pass for free or if you're paying for it. Getting it for free, I have no real issues against it. The new Congo leader is nice since I always liked the relic bonuses, but now being able to found a religion and kill off your apostles does streamline the strategy better. But I think the big issue is how well-developed some of the MODs that are available right now - some are created with some serious level of depth that brings a lot more variety and novelty to the game. So if we compare those to what the leader's pass offers - then yes, long-time players would be disappointed. The previous Frontier's pass - what was good was not the additional leaders alone, but with the addition of new gameplay abilities like secret society, and apocalypse mode. If the Frontier pass only released new leaders and nothing else, it would have received the same response as right now. Cos with modding community - it's kind of easy to get/make new leaders.
I know that this is a bit late after the pass release, but Saxy Gamer and others, did you also get an e-mail several weeks ago from 2K informing you of a Data Breach that occurred on their Support Ticket system? I got by without problems because I have never used their ticket system to report game issues. Things like that are what make me less inclined to create accounts just for some minor content. And I do consider Leader Pass to be minor content.
Got it working 3 days after the release through adding the Anthology for free directly (owning all the DLCs). Have not used the pseudo-purchase shenanigans.
There is another take on these leaders. It’s been a long time since Civ 6 has been interested in actual history. If you look at Julius Caesar and Abraham Lincoln, these reflect history. Agreed, Lincoln weirdly but it is an attempt. I regard most of the Nee Frontier Pass a disaster because with very few exceptions (Portugal?) it wasn’t interested in historical reality. The opposite, it became an absurd fantasy game.
Believe it or not, it's incredibly easy to roll a game back to day one with Steam. Not because Steam keeps every copy, but because every copy is ultimately built from the first build uploaded. It's unlikely but at least easily possible to accidentally switch to the wrong depo and muscle memory your way towards a big mistake.
It was fixed as of last night. If you have all the DLC you can now get the Leader Pass for free. On the hand of how we paid for Caesar, I agree. They were clearly data-mining for ad revenue. The 2K account not only wants your email, but asks if you want ads and notifications for other games. Obviously, I declined. Also agree on the cost. If one is going to buy the pass, buy the Anthology.
I tried off and on for 24 hours and couldn't get the DLC, then I did the "add something to your cart" thing and it unlocked. I had already made a 2k account years ago because that's how you got the scout cat too, IIRC. But it seems that it's fixed now and the people who are entitled to the new DLC are getting it without having to jump through hoops to get it. I did wait a day for it to sort out but got a bit impatient and bought something for 65 cents.
Tried playing Nzinga a few times, constantly spawned on the edge of the continent and it is small continent, making her leader ability a net negative. So not thrilled about her as I would like. Could just be the RNG of my playthroughs, but I tried about five or six starts.
I often purchase the DLCs twice (PC and iPad) as it's a great game to play on long flights -- so I was SO PLEASED the iOS version was published same day vs. a year+ as with previous DLCs. Small victories.
I'd have preferred more creative abilities, but at least they're all effective and relevant abilities. Which is more than can be said for poor Tamar and Georgia
(Nov.23) I have added the Pass to my wishlist, then after a while on the steam page a purple message told me a new dlc is added to my library. Yesterday I only got Caesar. Today maybe a fix did it or the thing i did, but its there. ( I have all DLCs except anthology)
I understand the issue of abilities being boring, because they reward you for playing the same way we were playing. It's nothing new like Kupe, or a changed play style needed like going for a strong district like Koreans. They feel like a good newbie leaders. Except we are no longer newbies, so they feel luckluster
You might not be, but other people might. And honestly, besides Saladin none of the leaders really jump out as extremely lazy. Lincoln is a more aggressive early war approach to America, which under both Teddies is a late-game cultural powerhouse, while Mbandi is literally just Kongo but actually good. Any ability besides Nzinga's shitty penalty pretending to be a leader ability is honestly a welcome one, specially one that incentivizes the Kongo to play tall like they clearly want to but up until Mbandi couldn't because you needed lots of mediocre cities to get apostles to spam.
What has happened to me is that I struggled to get the pass, finally got it, and then after two hours of gaming the game crashed and now the 2K launcher is glitched and won't work.
Wait, people who had all the DLC already were supposed to get it for free? If only I had known that before I paid the 20€... Is there a way I can get a refund?
Launch issues aside, I got the leaders for free, and to me, their abilities are fine. If nothing else, it offers a different playstyle for three Civs, and for the fourth (Nzinga), it straight up improves it. Nzinga's ability is boring, but it is very synergetic with Kongo's tall playstyle. I like Saladin's ability specifically for a superfast religious victory, but it'd be lethal with a horse rush too.
I have buyed all the DLC's (on PS4) but I have not the leader pass and I can also not buy it. it's like it is not available for PS4 so I was pretty pissed about that tbh.
At first I was disappointed because I play on PS4, and can't get the DLC. Then I was disappointed by the abilities these new leaders actually get. At least it's free, providing you already spent an extra $100 on the game
The fact that this isn’t available on consoles is sad. I know PC is the target audience and all, but I love CIV VI and it’s pretty harsh that us on console who are WILLING to pay for it can’t get it. Hope the leaders are enjoyable for you all :(
Most of the new civs could really do with a rework and/or buff. Julius should get a great general point per turn from his capital, Lincoln's industrial zones should give 2 amenities instead of loyalty, and saladin's flanking bonuses for religious and combat units should be cross compatible (I E religious units should be able to flank for military ones and vice versa.) The yields for congo should probably come with another drawback of some kind.
It's funny because Lincoln's ability in the base game actually gives amenities, but since the R&F expansion focuses more on loyalty then most of the game revolves around that mechanic. Who knows, we'll see what happens in the future.
@@vxxiii4160 yeah, potato mentioned that. Frankly it's just a better version of the same ability that feels more useful, and replacing that part with the base game version would instantly make Lincoln far better.
I don't get the thing with Lincoln. He changes the industrial zones into giving amenities and the plantages losing amenities but only without the R&F DLC. Why? And I remember in the Wiki the ability of Mbande was another that effected trade and combat strength. Which I think would be also more unique.
I got the game on Epic Games for free ages ago, bought all the DLC on there, and I can't even find anyone talking about how to get this on there. Submitted a support ticket, no answer yet.
Since I have all the DLC I’m not going to complain about free stuff but agreed, don’t pay for the pass yet. I can’t open Civ atm on Mac OS due to the update. seen a few workarounds but haven’t gotten them to work for me so far.
I play with a couple of other friends and while i have a pc they all have macs and the updated made their devices unable to play civ6. as of right now they still cant play even when disabling and removing all add-ons, mods, and just playing base vanilla they still cant even load up the game on steam. poor guys
The worse thing about linking the 2K account is that the scout is now accompanied by stupid effing cats! Who tf takes cats on a scouting mission? Just dumb.
I think a lot of the rhetoric I'm hearing is akin to looking a gift horse in the mouth, but I suppose that technically doesn't work with Caesar. Cest la vie.
I have the epic version. And today it got and update and everything is working. All dlc and mods are working again But you have to readjust your personal setting.
I was all excited about this expansion, but got to the Create Game menu and just wasn't feeling it. I've got over 4,300 hours logged on civ6 and I think I'm just burned out altogether.
I would not have paid for it (so far) but it's free and I actually like the idea of playing as Abe or Jules just for nostalgia of past civ games. So it's ok, just don't pay for it, especially with the awesome mod community already creating better stuff.
Agreed on all points made, this felt rushed, sloppy and phoned in, especially compared to the high bar set by all previous content. The trailers for this content also similarly felt sloppy and phoned in as well. Feels like a very top down decision with an aggressive timeline for short term gain rather than the labor of love the rest of the game feels like, which is super unfortunate.

So no conflict there either.
And even if it "couldn't" be free on console (which, games have ABSOLUTELY had free DLC before), they still could have released it as a paid DLC.
Ceasar should have had something like "after killing a unit, active land unit gets its movement refreshed"
Maybe even pass rivers for free after a kill (crossing the tigra river)
You mean the Rubicon?
@@Treklosopher my bad. I was already questioning myself as I sent it
Legitimately, you could give the Nzinga Mbande ability to any civ in the game and it'd make just as much sense.
I'll just wait for the modding community to do their thing and make these leaders interesting now that we have a framework.
They already have started too
I agree that Civ6 has reached a point of content saturation, and it's hard for the devs to find meaningful leader abilities which fit in with the civs yet are distinct and impactful when compared with other abilities in the game. Personally, Civ6 has reached the point where if I want more content I search the mod workshop for new civs/gamemodes.
The new DLC increases interest which means more mods over all as well ~
@@Americanbadashh it sure didn t increase interest in plenty of us fans lol.
Hoping you do a leader spotlight on all the new leaders! :)
I don't see Julius Caesar in my game.... Ah, the 2K thing.
Lincoln was the only ability I found interesting. I finished a diety game with him via cultural domination victory. I built a ton of industrial zones like I was going for science, then invaded and took half the map. Biggest problem was keeping my economy running
Anna nzinga was boring and my sultan game is kinda boring
No technical issues with the DLC (iPad here)
But kinda agree these feel a bit uninspired
I feel like this DLC is them getting a bunch of interns, having them create new leaders as projects, and then selling that as DLC. No way these small leader abilities would take an experienced team any meaningful amount of time to develop, and to put such a high price tag on it is pretty scammy
Its free, isnt it?
The Civ 6 was getting more unstable with each DLC to the point where I had to stop playing because in multiplayer it would crash for someone every 20ish turns. Im writing this a game developer myself, I'm very aware of how complex Civ as a game is, it's not an easy game to develop for sure, but for the price we paid for the game and every overvalued DLC we bought, this is absolutely unacceptable. I'm currently playing Humankind and hoping Civ 7 is made better and more stable.
Thanks for your video, Saxy. When I heard about this, I wasn't convinced or enthused.
I am withholding judgement. I am watching a couple of other content providers playing the new leaders and the games are interesting. The release was rough, but it was partly steams fault. I have enjoyed Civ 6, these leaders are free, and I applaud them doing this.
Sounds like they had the Disaster Intensity set too high when they released it.
If you havent bought the anthology pack, then you still have to pay for the leader pass
@@asilentpotato3200 No you dont. They said if you bought all the DLC separately and you are on windows PC you will get the new content free as well.
I love you for supporting this community, I thought I was alone.
Not to be “mean” but I expect stuff to work on release. I know crazy right. Maybe I’m spoiled
Leader Pass was free to me. Sure the first leaders don't have exciting abilities, but it's an excuse to come back to Civ 6 and there are more leaders to look forward to. What's not to like?
you re clearly just a casual..what s not to like ? the lack of bug fixes, the braindead ai, boring ass new leaders ? yeah nothing special right ?
So, if we have all the DLC's up to Gathering Storm, we don't have to buy the leader pack? I have Julius Caesar, but not the newest leaders.
With Abe’s cheek bones I think it could be called a “hot” mess
I was able to get the leader pass for free the day after it released.
Now it makes sense why they didn’t release on console immediately.
At least you have access to these leaders. None of us on console have them. It's almost like they just completely forgot about an entire player base.
Abe can have an advantage with that loyalty in the uuuh God what is it... If you go into a dark age half your cities flip independent. If he's got better loyalty pressure than anyone else it's less of a problem by default.
Well, it was messy, but the LP brought me back to Civ 6 :)
Why is it called the Negotiator Pack? None of the leaders abilities minus Lincoln fit that
Everything downloaded fine for me. I downloaded the dlc yesterday around 7pm in whatever time zone toronto is in. I agree this round of leaders are a little lackluster but I still did enjoy it for the most part. If i had to pay an extra free I would have been unhappy with the dlc
Thanks for this video. You perfectly summed up my frustrations.
(What I also still miss: ... the Korean turtleship ;-) )
Edit: Stop!
What if I could have gotten that $0 upgrade but already spent the $20 when it was released?
I didn't have to buy Anthology to gain access. The pass was unlocked for me after a few hours with all DLC bought individually.
If we delete our 2K account after getting Ceasar, do we keep him in-game? :D
I'm also an old man with a "tinfoil hat". I still use a flip phone. Back in my day...
To be fair, I think Mvemba's ability can be useful because it provides you free apostles that you can use to get easy relics.
Thank you for the info, Saxy! Love your channel.
I can't find them on ps5. Not showing up
There is another take on these leaders.
Ok so to clear some things up a bit the reset to version 1.0 was to clear your mods so the update wouldn't collide with existing mods.
As an actual old man, I had to laugh when you called yourself an old man with a tin foil hat! 🤣🤣🤣
(Nov.23)
I have added the Pass to my wishlist, then after a while on the steam page a purple message told me a new dlc is added to my library.
And what to do if I have all the dlcs, yet purchased the pass as soon as it came out? :/ Do they give the refund?
What has happened to me is that I struggled to get the pass, finally got it, and then after two hours of gaming the game crashed and now the 2K launcher is glitched and won't work.
Any idea how to get Julius on Xbox? Or the leader pass too I can’t see either of them.
I don't they are going to release it on console.
Wait, people who had all the DLC already were supposed to get it for free? If only I had known that before I paid the 20€... Is there a way I can get a refund?
If we bought it, can we get a refund?
Launch issues aside, I got the leaders for free, and to me, their abilities are fine. If nothing else, it offers a different playstyle for three Civs, and for the fourth (Nzinga), it straight up improves it. Nzinga's ability is boring, but it is very synergetic with Kongo's tall playstyle. I like Saladin's ability specifically for a superfast religious victory, but it'd be lethal with a horse rush too.
lame
Hope the leaders are enjoyable for you all :(
What happens if you unlink your account after linking it?
They can shove Ceasar up their tail ends and if civ 7 ends up being like Civ 6 I'll be finding a different strategy game to play.
I played the standard version of Civilization VI because I never use the Feline Scout for a long time.
I would love civ 7 to go back to civ 5 art style instead of the disney animated graphics.
I got the game on Epic Games for free ages ago, bought all the DLC on there, and I can't even find anyone talking about how to get this on there. Submitted a support ticket, no answer yet.
for some reason for me everything worked as intended but even though I have all three other leaders for free, I dont have Cesar.
Never mind the DLC. The problem with Civ VI is simply that it's way too easy to win, even in Deity. The AIs are terrible.
I tried linking my 2K account and they never sent me the confirmation email. Watching your video this sounds like the least of the problems.
Since I have all the DLC I’m not going to complain about free stuff but agreed, don’t pay for the pass yet. I can’t open Civ atm on Mac OS due to the update. seen a few workarounds but haven’t gotten them to work for me so far.
I was looking forward to trying out the new leaders, reviewed them, thought, "why bother?"
Can you do a video on secret societies
Dude... I want that start location
Just dumb.
you are damn straight on the data part
the leaked second wave looks much much more interesting
I think a lot of the rhetoric I'm hearing is akin to looking a gift horse in the mouth, but I suppose that technically doesn't work with Caesar. Cest la vie.
Why no console release?
Is it working on Epic? I'd like to download it, but don't want to mess everything up.
I have the epic version. And today it got and update and everything is working. All dlc and mods are working again But you have to readjust your personal setting.
@@ducatiniels thx
I had a bug with the new kongo where my units didnt take jungle movement penalties. Preety weird
Read again, they Kon see and they Kongo through forests AND jungle. it's in the Kongo rules.
And remember : you kon go, but wherever you go, you DON'T go slavia. OK?
