Dudey has sparked my quest for knowledge far faster than any of my teachers ever could. They only cared about a pass mark, Dudey cares that I understand human history as a human myself.
Doge Coin One of my older history teachers were like that but they sadly retired before I was doing my exams so I eventually had a new teacher who cared more about being funny than teaching (sadly he wasn’t very good at either)
I'm really glad you've started doing these history based videos. Many people of our younger generations aren't well educated on these parts of history and I think its quiet important they are.
Jack C they aren’t the same but they have a lot in common. millions of innocent people were sent for labour with little food and hours of work and were killed without any thought. obviously it wasn’t an extermination camp, but it was a torture one
Probably wouldn’t be any backlash apart from in Poland. I am polish and people even mentioning the word auschwitz puts them off talking too you as quite a large chunk of the polish population has probably went to visit it and seeing what they did in there for your eyes is utterly horrible. Places like The uk or America wouldn’t really care as concentration camps weren’t really in those areas. Idk that’s just my guess
[Jackies Squirrel] trust me, if you went around talking about auschwitz you would get an awful reputation. most people at least understand it was a concentration camp and that you shouldn’t joke about it. i can’t speak for america, because i wouldn’t know, but it’s extremely well known and not used even in joke contexts
These recent videos you're putting out are incredible. They're really informative, and your delivery is great, genuinely one of the only things I get excited about during lockdown.
The Gulag Archipelago is a great book on it, written by a survivor who was brilliant and kept the full book in his head, wrote it in segments and hid the segments with close friends all around Russia until it could be assembled and published. Details just about everything in the Gulag system.
I think it's a great idea that they added this to the game, because there are now a lot of young people that aware of these awful work camps. Survivors of these cruel work camps don't want to see this happen again, and as Dudey said, they're afraid to tell their story. This gets some of the truth out there without putting people at risk. Great work, Dudey.
'As Far as My Feet Will Carry Me' - A brilliant movie about an escape from a gulag which is actually a true story! Definitely check it out! It's also available on youtube with English subtitles.
Personally, i think the main reason as to why the devs put the gulag in the game was because of a mission in Modern Warfare 2. The lead antagonist's nemesis was held in the gulag so the player storms the gulag looking for this prisoner. When you find the prisoner you find it is a character that was loved from the previous Modern Warfare. (This character also never crossed the players mind because up until this point you think he died in the previous game). So because of that, the mission was easily one of the most memorable missions in the whole series. So originally i think they were inspired by the real gulag and not quite crossing the line to being insensitive.
Great video Dudey, just a slight addition to the kulak comments. While the kulaks did involve themselves in anti-collectivisation, one of the main reason Stalin punished them was because of what they were as a class of people. Kulak’s were better of peasants who owned more land than the ordinary peasant or ex-serf. Kulak’s really became significant due to Stolypin’s land reforms in the early 1900’s that got rid of the traditional strip farming, giving peasants a better chance of profiting because the previous emancipation edict placed land under the control of the village commune, limiting a peasants potential individual profit as they had limited land to farm on. Now this is important because in turn the Kulak represented the attitudes and developments of Tsarist Russia and to Stalin they represented and anti-communist way of life because these Kulaks were better off than other peasants and followed a more Western way of life which focussed on increasing their own profit and lifestyle rather than providing for the state etc. This is one of the reasons he punished the Kulaks so severely, in a process known as Dekulakisation, because they went against his ideas of socialism and communism, stalinism, which made them a threat in his eyes. But then again, if you look at the Stalinist period, his own dog could have been a political threat, he was that paranoid. Like i said, great video as always, but i just felt that little bit more detail gives an interesting insight into the Stalinist period and how and why it operated the way it did.
My great grandad's family were all sent to gulags and siberian work camps by the Russians when they advanced through poland during ww2 only my great grandad one of his brothers and one of his siters survived, the rest all starved from a family of about 9. They were sent there just for disagreeing with russian soldiers occupying theyre village after pushing out the germans. (they were polish btw)
A topic I have been researching and loved studying, so glad you covered it, if you were to continue with this dark topic, I’d definitely recommend doing a vid on “nazino/ nazinsky island gulag, the stuff that happened there is worth a vid for sure
I did Alevel modern history for a year and a half before it ended early due to corona and one of the 3 main modules was on Russia from tsar Alexander II (1860’s) to Khrushchev(1953), it’s worth delving into this part of modern history, it’s insane and should be common knowledge to all. Have a look at stalins dekulakization from the 30’s or pretty much anything from Russia’s history post 1800 as it’s really not that long ago yet the differences compared to the us and Europe during the same time period let alone today is crazy (pls make dudey see dis xo)
There were people from all over the soviet union, which was not only Russia but many countries like Poland Georgia Ukraine and etc. And there were people for no reason or reasons like they read the book which was banned by soviet union or something like that, there were many restriction in soviet union
I feel like the gulag is there to be your second chance because you rescue Captain Price from that Same gulag on modern warfare two, which gave Price a second chance during the original trilogy’s campaign
I wish my History teacher would send me links to your videos to educate everyone in the atrocities of the past. You are probably teaching people a lot more than lessons will ever (even though my history teacher is sick 😂) so thankyou for that:) great vid
The amount of people these days who either don’t know any history like this or just don’t want to know, they have so much power at their fingertips with these modern smart phones that they could be very intelligent people, yet they just use them for totally useless shit
The most brutal gulags would be located in Siberia and anyone without blue and blonde hair from foreign Non Russian citizens.I've also heard despite being allies during ww2 with Britain and America some allied troops also ended up in the gulag. Russia started their brutaly years before Germany as over ten million Ukranians in the 1930's were murdered by the Soviet Union.
Why didn't we learn about this stuff in school? I'm ashamed to admit I didn't even know what The Gulag was 😖 I comprehend that they couldn't have covered the entire history of the world in History lessons but what about Geography? Learning about the significant things that happened in each country. All I remember being taught in Geography was crop rotation - I kid you not. If it was a farming school (which is not even a thing I don't think?!) then fair enough but who the fuck needs to know about crop rotation?? Thanks again Dudey for educating us - you've gained over 6 tho subs in 2weeks so word is getting about. Your definitely one to watch (no pun intended) 😊✌
This is something that has always annoyed me. The Soviet union was seriously fucked yet people wave around the flag in protests as if socialism is somehow "noble". If we were taught about this in English schools just like we were taught about Nazi Germany, that flag would carry some serious weight as it should.
@@yodudeHQ I'm aware of this. However, it should be information taught to everyone in schools. The Hammer and sickle should carry the same weight has the swastika
tyranny and human bullying always result in horror… we are meant to voluntarily and freely help one another; that is Christianity and other elevating religions and systems. it is evil and a problem when humans try to force this collectively. We see this going on in our country now.
dudey is like a really cool history teacher we all wish we had
My history teacher is basically the same as dudey
I had a cool history teacher
Dudey has sparked my quest for knowledge far faster than any of my teachers ever could. They only cared about a pass mark, Dudey cares that I understand human history as a human myself.
My history teacher in secondary school was very cool and always really encouraged me to achieve, Dudey reminds me of him
Doge Coin One of my older history teachers were like that but they sadly retired before I was doing my exams so I eventually had a new teacher who cared more about being funny than teaching (sadly he wasn’t very good at either)
Thanks for this video. My great grandfather escaped from one right after war. Took him 2 years to get back to southern Poland...he walked.
that’s unbelievable! how did he manage to do it, i imagine it was near impossible
The gulag in mw was a part off the campaign in mw2 so they reused for continuity
This is the real history of the gulag
Next video: exploring verdansk
I'm really glad you've started doing these history based videos. Many people of our younger generations aren't well educated on these parts of history and I think its quiet important they are.
Dudey’s rly racking out that great content recently 👏🏽😊
A video on the salem witch trials would be cool. I'm loving the content atm :)
He is its coming Monday
Love the content, Dudey. Definitely made this lockdown less difficult. Thankyou.
Really Interesting, didn’t realise how much history there was behind the gulag. Nice vid mate
Imagine if cod called the gulag Auschwitz instead there would be serious backlash
not really the same thing
@@SniperTVGames hows it not?

I'm curious, has this channel lost monetization since you started these style videos?
Idk youtube doesnt like people talking about these topics

The like to dislike ratio is insane. You are an awesome RUclipsr. Definitely earned my Sub.
Loving the true crime stuff this week can’t wait to see what you have in store later this week.
Great video Jord.. Thx for sharing mate..👍😎👍
Soviet history is fascinating, top vid, the stuff you can find on the KGB is always interesting as well
drinking game: take a shot every time Dudey says ‘Gulag’
Excellent video, thank you Dudey Rhino! History forgotten is history repeated...

Waited all day for this so worth the wait 🙏
I can relate, 60% of the time I end up in the gulag I shouldn't be in there

Baby Yoda 🥺😍
I’m learning about this in soviet Russia in college so hearing you talk about it makes me feel smart 😂😂
Recommend people check out the Cannibal Island Gulag if you liked this vid.... scary shit... top class vid as always Dudey!
Another banger dudey teaching me more about stuff than my school
Jordan could’ve used a really enticing title to attract warzone addicts ‘what is the gulag?’ 😂
It’s only the gulag because that’s where they saved captain price from in modern warfare 3
There was also a gulag mission in call of duty black ops that more closely resembles the reality - even that was some hard hitting stuff
Like the baby Yoda on the shelf.. 👍😎👍
Yet another great video mate
Yes dudey! The grind is real
YET AGAIN... smashing video! ❤️
Black Ops Cold War is gonna have a Gulag but they've changed the name to Sorbibo madness
There were people from all over the soviet union, which was not only Russia but many countries like Poland Georgia Ukraine and etc. And there were people for no reason or reasons like they read the book which was banned by soviet union or something like that, there were many restriction in soviet union
Loving these educational videos :)
Dudey how about doing a lesson on the real reason for the irish famine/genocide 👍
The gulag in warzone is from one of the past campaign missions thats why its in there i think not to show the gulag
I loved this dude another banger of a video!
Born in Notts, raised in the gulag
I hate when I get shit on and have to go to the gulag but then life is good when I see I’m facing up against BootyEater69.
Jordan should become a history teacher
I feel like the gulag is there to be your second chance because you rescue Captain Price from that Same gulag on modern warfare two, which gave Price a second chance during the original trilogy’s campaign

The way back is an amazing movie about escaping the gulag
i guess their second chance wasnt utilised :(
Love the content your making 🤟
That’s one gulag that your not gonna win
Do the North Korena gulags
A Gulag not to be mistaken with a Goulash.
Great vid, however, just barely scratched the surface of The Gulags . . . .
TONS more! It begs for a series.
Welcome to the gulag bois
Stalin was actually worse than Hitler. ...but he who wins , writes history.
Another Banging Video lad
Literally assumed it was for prisoners of war (from rescuing Captain Price in Modern Warfare 2 Campaign). But that's just awful
DUDEY IS THAT A ROBBIE KNOX PILLOW
The amount of people these days who either don’t know any history like this or just don’t want to know, they have so much power at their fingertips with these modern smart phones that they could be very intelligent people, yet they just use them for totally useless shit
The fact the main reason people know this is because of a meme is horrible
Top class mate
This is basically A Level History
dudley could be a teacher tbf or lecturer at least
Nan "gulag "grandad gulag " farther gulag mother gulag everybody gulag
Hey Dudley, you need to check out Solzhenitsyn

Take a shot everytime he says Gulag.
I'm dead.
Sidemen gotta react to this fr
What about the main missions in modern warfare and previous games the history in the previous games are much worse than the gulag
Amazing video 👍
research the Holodomor. maybe.
Fun fact other inmates are encouraged to throw Rox at competing prisoners !
VIKKSTAR entered the chat
Loving the content I don’t think the gulag is hard on war zone
Sweet ghezzz
Like the videos he needs to use a proper podcast microphone though
Happy again
Love the content :-)
U deserve more subs
Cheers for an over vid geeze
