Several years ago, I was tasked with creating narrative tracks for training presentations at work. I watched this video and some of your basic Audacity tutorials. The simple tips of noise reduction, your filter curve, compression and normalization settings, have made my voice editing so easy, quick and effective. I've had numerous comments on the improvement of the narrations over previous trainings that were made, prior to my work. I don't think I ever thanked you, so I re-found this video and wanted to leave you some positive feedback. Thank you very much for your videos. They have been super helpful for my role in our training narrations.
I was just trying to learn some basic EQ and this was phenomenally taught. I learned a lot about the things I'm adjusting as opposed to just being told what good settings are.
Thank you so much for the simple and complete explanation! By far the most helpful EQ video I have seen on youtube! I am going to be watching all you videos!!!
Hey, this a great, simple bag of informational gold. I hope you are not ever going to delete this. I have many, many years of home recording and EQing experience doing music, but I'm new to VO. It's so different when you don't have music to help blend everything. I never had to conform to anyone else's "standards" before (acx) either. You are awesome
Thanks so much man lol I was losing my mind on that but also got lots of other tips I wasn't expecting, came for the EQ location , stayed for the knowledge 👍👍
Another awesome training!! very thorough and just simple to understand without the mumbo jumbo!! I would love some help with getting certain sounds amplified to get a rich sound, i've got my own ASMR channel and trying to set the settings for sounds not voice. My channel only has sounds like tapping, scratching and so on
CheeryGiggles Thanks so much! Go ahead and email me some recordings of sounds. I’ll consider making a few EQs for you in exchange for a video testimonial. Josh@joshmeyervo.com. Is that something you’d be interested in?
Hey Josh. The Audacity EQ tutorial was a big help with my singing tracks. Thanks a bunch. On a learning curve with recording some songwriter covers & hoped you could help with EQing my acoustic guitar tracks. MIxing multi track w/ vocals, guitar, & bass guitar, all using a pair of SDC mics. For a rookie it's a challenge. Appreciate your insight Josh. B.
Very useful videos indeed and many thanks. Audacity can do so much. I have paid for audio DAW software but I still prefer Audacity as it has most everything I need, is simpler to use and I always get great results.
Hi josh, You are fantastic guide for Audacity. Your tips are useful . Can you prepare video on Audacity and voice meter banana? that will be great help.
Hello, I watched your audacity tutorials on RUclips. They are amazing and professional. I have a question: how to remove (reduce) a soloist's breaths? I recorded it in the church to the accompaniment of the organ. I used 6 microphones !! Two pairs of them were of the "Y" type, one from the OLYYMPUS recorder and another pair from the ZOOM recorder. The next two are RODE, one before the soloist and the other general. I can handle audacity and manually remove too loud breath by using the "noise gate" function, but it is very arduous work. I am an amateur working on a complete album of this soloist (soprano) and I have several songs to record. It is a huge job, hence my question is how to do it with these excessive breaths. I would be very grateful for your help and thank you in advance. Greetings, Marek
about boosting of 9dB's and no enginner telling to do this. Please let me quote one of the most well known mastering engineer still alive : Bernie Goodman. He says, "if you have to add +15dB's on something and as long long as it does sound good then do it". Just to say that in the contrary of music where rules are more obvious, in mixing speaking there is almost no rules but the one that says "does it sound better or worse ?" - Now if you are telling me we should use some pro recording equipment to make sound good without having to boost or lower that much with an EQ, i sure would agree with that ... big Al Schmitt fan speaking here...
Josh thank you so much for your tutorials they have very helpful. What treble range would you recommend for a female contralto voice. My wife sings similar to Karen Carpenter if you are familiar with her. Karen that is, not my wife haha. My wife has recorded 2 CD's professionally but the expense has out weighed benefits and we are now attempting to home record with Audacity.
Hi, I have just recorded a young female singing track over music. Do you have any tips for compression, eq, etc for that kind of singing voice. Plus, do you have any final mixing tutorials? Many thanks
*I'm a guy & I've heard the bass/treble boost trick...when I tried it & heard how muddy & ridiculous it sounded, I started to make my own EQs too (life saver)...do u have any advice for reducing sibilance even more?*
You could sweep the higher frequency areas until you find it and then drop that in the eq. You can also isolate a sibilant and de amplify until the sharpness has been taken down.🤙
I really like how my recored voice sounds over iphone. Do you happen to know what are the likely parameters so that i adjust my voice so that it sounds as if i would have recorded it over iphone?
Technically as many as you’d like. Usually 1. I would recommend any more than 2 but go ahead and play with it so you can see what happens when you experiment. Make a duplicate of the track so you always have a back up of the raw recording. Control + D = duplicate
i can't even click on my effects, how do youy enable them??? Yes I have tried enable all, still can't click on anything. How do you fix that? Thanks :)
Wonderful Tutorial!! I've just recorded my voice (singing) and would like to thicken my voice a bit. How do I go about that ?? (besides the +3db boost you suggested from 500 to 65hz)
Haha that’s all in the delivery and performance my man! Nothing to do with EQ. Love the comment though! Check out this song I wrote and recorded in loving memory of George Floyd and #BlackLivesMatter. ruclips.net/video/kwIGgtx4h4Q/видео.html .
@@VoiceOverMaster Thank you! As a vocalist it would be most useful to at least be able to understand the individual parameters, and how each of them affect the overall sound quality. Fingers crossed for a dedicated reverb tutorial! :)
Vanessa Challis Vocalist, Keyboard & Pianist you’re welcome! Those are great ideas for videos and I’ll definitely consider them! For now, the only real way to treat reverb is to treat your room for sound 😊
