Hey guys! The DCS Syria Map just keeps getting better and better with time and I wanted to give Ugra Media a huge shoutout after the latest update to the Syria Map gave us Tel Nof, Hatzor, Ben Gurion & Palmachim Air Bases! I hope the map continues to march South and give us more Israeli Air Force Bases in the future!
This is a case where I think Early acces has been used rightfully. 1. An initial release that impressed and was usuable from the very beginning. 2. Improvements along the way that made it even better. Now that's what I call good development with customers in mind!
I really appreciate the pointing out of art style differences that shine through. Thats a really cool insight left brainers like myself won’t even notice and need people like you to point out so I can appreciate them. Cheers for that.
One of my favorite things to do is take an airbase and really jazz it up with static scenery and AI ground/air units. Traffic taking off and landing, support equipment driving around the airport, firefighting trucks, etc. Really make it believable and increase the immersion. When you taxi you have to wait for a refueling truck to pass, a jet to land, and all the stuff at happens in real life. The Syrian map is one of the best because it’s already so populated and detailed. The Sinai map is also very detailed and well made. All of the maps have their own special vibe and feel. The South American map is very unique and has a vibe all its own
Great analysis of the recent changes and challenges! I’m a big fan of the Syria map as well, I recently added the new locations to my Syria grand campaign. One of the things I love most about this map is the variety of terrains and places to explore. IMHO Both the Syria and Sinai maps are incredible, they’re the best in DCS. It’s a bit of a shame that the Sinai map doesn’t have as many users yet, which makes it harder to fill and fully enjoy. Hopefully, sales pick up so we can experience Sinai with the same level as Syria!
It is a great map! Out of 6 I have it`s my favorite. It has everything. A sea, a large island, valleys, mountains, green and desert areas, unique monuments, castles, ancient ruins, cities, large and small airfields and very detailed airfields and helipads areas. Satisfying to fly over it low in a helicopter.
While I do agree with what you say about Syria looking better, I still recommend Sinai over it for a multitude of reasons, not least of which is the fact that was once based in the Sinai as part of the MFO at El Gora Airbase just south-west of the Rafah boarder crossing.(yes, that Rafah), and I can tell you that there is a lot more warfare possibility for the Sinai than there is Syria, and while you are hoping they continue south, I hope Ugra continues north till it gets to Ramat-David but since they are separate developers, unless ED buys them both out I don't suspect we'll ever see them merged into one map.
Hey Spudknocker, everything very well with graphics and so on but looking at these shelters and hangars that look very great but when they can put personel on an aircraftcarrier why not on an airfield and maybe pushbacks so you don,t have to to turn around?!
Now with the overlapping airbases, I would love to see a campaign which has map to map travel from Sinai to Syria and vice versa along the mission progress.
You can kinda accomplish this with triggers. You make two missions and there’s a load mission command you can have trigger when you fly into a preset area. But you have to guesstimate fuel and load out when crossing because the missions don’t check and save your state.
@@ImpendingJoker oh man ... On the ED website in the Mod Shop, the description for the Syria map states that you need 500GB of free hard drive space for the VR installation.
Best map even before this...further ahead now. It's essentially ubiquitous on DCS user hard drives, so also the best option for content developers. I think only a Vietnam map when it arrives will achieve the same thing. As it stands, it's a poor risk to build something for Kola, Sinai, Afghanistan, let's not even talk about South America. "Style" is definitely a thing...I can't stand the SA and Kola buildings.
Its a great addition. However the tech is ancient and the map looks awful in lighting conditions other than mid-day. The objects do no respect changes in lighting, everything is very flat shaded, there is no occulusion and none of the objects have specular mapping which makes them look dull and lifeless.
Maps in the ARMA series don't need to cover such large areas as flight sims do. And in ARMA, developers can put more details, because you travel through these maps from an infantry man perspective. And do the MSFS maps look better than in DCS? On my PC, DCS maps look better, maybe except Caucasus. Syria, Normandy 2 or Kola Peninsula are the most beautiful in my opinion. Buildings, bridges, palaces, churches - all of those look amazing. On the other hand, MSFS map is in some places badly textured, full of randomly placed buildings, and cars and buses behave very strangely. What surprised me the most, when I flew over Himalayas, there was a strange mountain that looked rather like some dark spire from Mordor (I think due to wrong reading of height map).
Have you ever actually looked at MSFS up close? And even up high maps like Kola are quite comparable to MSFS. Each has their pros and cons visually, but I don't get the rose colored MSFS glasses some people look through.
O lord... please don't make msfs equal to DCS. Regarding graphics DCS is falling behind... especially in the more detailed area and with good spec pc. Maybe not all places in the world. But if you compare the ones with high res satellite and photogrammetry it is just so awesome... Agreed, driving through it is another matter. But flying 100 feet above it still feels so lovely and real. If I fly over Nevada in msfs, the colors the details are so much better than nttr In DCS. But DCS runs better and has collision/destruction model for everything and more importantly details in flight and weapons modeling is great! While still looking good (enough)!

Thanks for the update video. I’ll have to check out the changes. Syria is a go to map for most, when it comes to paid maps.
Its great!

I was considering buying Afghanistan, but now with with this new update I am going to stick with Syria for sure. Thanks for showcasing the upgrades!
No problem dude!

Don't want to burst your bubble... but on the ramp, aircraft always have priority and any other vehicle is to give way to them.
I’ve had to take a step away from DCS since December, and the progress since then looks great! Can’t wait to get back into it, hopefully here soon.
Another amazing review! By the way, this is my favorite map.

Amazing as always!!

Would definitely like to see a comparison vid, sinai vs syria.
Both great maps
Sinai is great for dusk/dawn flying. The visuals are some of the best in DCS.
A side by side comparison of the airbases on the Sinai and Syria map would be nice.
I like when the video starts with 'holy crap, guys!'....
These guys are crazy
I'm a big fan of that map! I want a dynamic campaign Spud!!!
Very based, I always felt like the targets were a bit sparse in the israel part of this map.

They will *never* allow them to be together. They'd then have to admit they did not have the foresight to see the overlap.

Looks like quite the update! How are the FPS? Any performance drops? Just wondering as Syria is notorious for bogging down systems
Tbh didn't fully watch But OMG Syria is Runnig Smoooth now
Sure is!
It better have, it's taking a whole RDR1 worth of space on my SSD! From just the update today!
Syria my fave
Syria Vs Sinai performance wise which one is better? and looks better?
Syria is the standard for DCS maps at this point.
Is it me or are some of the trees way too large? They reach the top of the control towers.
That`s because size matters. Bigger = better 😀
I love flying helo's are there a lot of helo missions?
Why is there two module maps from same locations? :/ Thats the question
Ugra, Heatblur, we are strong and continue to improve our product.
ED: we can't add Iranian bases to Iraq map. It's too hard...
Hi, thx for the Video. Is this Map install really 500GB of Discspace ?
500gb? Lol what?
@@JSRJS thy mate 👍
Update was about 53gig…
Dude even all of MSFS20 plus all addons on its market place only come in around 400GB, where are you getting 500GB for this single map from?

I always recommend Persian gulf, but Syria is also very good.
When’s the next dcs sale?
Probably close to Christmas
klinda disturbingly they didn't model gaza at all
@@wolfboylikesmetal Gaza is a good bit south of tel nof, so it’s not modeled but it is modeled on the Sinai map

F@$#$ RUclips and its Censorship...
Comment for the Algorithm.
Downvotes from eleven very sad people? LOL
Loving the DCS Content.. keep it up!
Tel Nof air force base was one of the bases that was pounded by the Iranians earlier this month .

All of Israel must be in one map. Must be!
Give us Iraq and PG combined and I'll be happy
Tel nof sadly is quite shit, expected better
You give WAY TO MUCH CREDIT to the delvs.... These maps look like 10yr old Arma maps... MSFS puts dcs world maps to shame

True
Try doing an urban battle in MSFS, roads and buildings look like they are melted.
this video is antisemetic.
@@ThatBoyFromCali yep a pro-Israel video is anti-Semitic nice… LOLZ
